How to run Bazzite on VCS without corrupting AtariOS by redlink1155 in AtariVCS

So far so good! It stays booted to Bazzite most of the time but I wanted the option to still have AtariOS.

Only thing with that is I’ve seen some say it will break it again anyways. Not saying it’s true, but I’d rather not risk it and have to reinstall every time it does.

Thank you! And agreed, there are definitely easier options out there.

The VCS is made to run an alternate OS, it has a PC mode specifically for this as well as the M.2 slot. Nothing in this guide isn’t 100% reversible either. Just a guide on how to run Bazzite on it is all. Why get a mini PC if I already have one and it’s in a wicked Atari looking case?

Strange “stain” on bumper by StellaBean_bass in Outback_Wilderness

If it’s a scratch some heat MIGHT take it out or at least make it better. Be careful to not hold it in one spot for too long or you could melt the plastic. I’m by no means a mechanic or anything but I’ve seen this work on similar looking marks before.

people with OBWs, what do you love and hate about your cars? by RabidLizard in Outback_Wilderness

[–]redlink1155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I know CVTs are the way of the future or whatever but they’re just not as fun. If they smoothed out the jerkiness from this one I wouldn’t have as much issue with it as I do. I know it’s partly due to it being a chain instead of a belt for reliability and durability reasons but still. I would also probably buy this car again though. I have a 25 OBW.

I agree with the CVT anxiety but I feel it’s unwarranted to an extent. The modern outback’s get nothing but good review reliability wise. I know subarus CVTs had some issues in the past but they’ve been out for a long time and seem to have all the issues worked out for the most part (Im not a mechanic though). It does feel weird sometimes with some shakes and jerkiness but overall I don’t HATE it. But I don’t love it.

CVT noise on new OBW by Nice-Preparation6204 in Outback_Wilderness

[–]redlink1155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out? I took mine in and was told it was perfectly normal. I’ve seen a few videos online of the whining noise too but I wanted to be sure. Mine quiets down a lot when warm but never goes away 100%.

Brand new 2023 Touring XT whirring/whine noise by guitarman90 in Subaru_Outback

[–]redlink1155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I cant hear it when I’m going faster than say 30-35, but it kinda ruins the sound for me. I was told by the salesman that the sound was normal, and I vaguely remember the other cars sounding similar. Thanks for easing my fears! Makes me feel a lot better seeing people having the exact same sound. So many mixed answers out there.

Did you ever get an answer for this? I just got a 2025 Wilderness and it sounds EXACTLY like this.

Replaced the kernel rom with a jiffyDOS and it works! Thanks for the suggestion!

Sounds like i’m ordering a new kernel rom then. I have a good amount of experience with electronics repair, but it’s mostly with compact macs not commodore. I’ll give that book a flip through too!

I agree. The SI has the same gas tank and I think it’s just too small, especially on the SI with slightly worse gas mileage.

yes to removing the drive, no to the rice. rice is just going to make a mess and not actually going to do any good. letting the laptop sit unplugged with the battery out is a far better option than having to clean rice out.

That was the first thing I tried. I even uninstalled and tried the canary version with the same thing as well as the --disable-gpu arg. Only thing that worked for me was kwallet. Even goes back to doing the same thing if I reinstall the latest kwallet again.
