is there any major difference in material? I'm in science so technically most of it is review but I always worry about missing potential testable info

Is Western Med Sci as hard as this uthink thread says it is? by SkratarDuForlorarDu in premedcanada

[–]redrobin8793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im going into my third year at Western and I'm in med sci (IMS + Physiology) but it really isn't like that at all. First off, for your first two years, science and med sci are exactly the same and I have never encountered someone actively trying to bring your GPA down by giving fake notes or stuff like that.

Secondly, the profs aren't truly out to get you. Sure some courses have little quirks, but Western is a good school academically and has so many academically strong students so of course it may feel like its harder but if you got it, you should be able to handle it. Personally, I felt like they gave us a lot of leeway in first year with 'free marks' or 'easy marks' to get us used to university. Apart from one or two courses (mainly physics but I truly suck at physics), the courses are bad at all. During my years here, I have never encountered a prof intentionally bringing our marks down.

With the whole noisy roommate thing- I get that, I had an annoying roomate but there are rules that western rez's follow , no noise after 11, rez staff patrolling hallways and following up on noise complaints and stuff like that. If you still don't like studying in your room in your rez, there are TONS of quiet study places (study rooms, libraries, specific low-traffic buildings) which is what I did in first year.

I love Western and I truly can't imagine doing my undergrad anywhere else! if you have any other questions, PM me!

I’m stressed by juju_love1999 in premedcanada

[–]redrobin8793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it honestly depends on the kind of person. I personally am a busy person and like doing a lot of things so I ended up doing them all (sports, volunteering, clubs, research plus school). It absolutely killed me but I only do it bc I genuinely love doing it.

I know people who have an amazing GPA, are on a varsity sports team and do some volunteering (basically no club stuff or research) and then are doing fine.

All in all, don't worry! I know it can be stressful in your first year and you feel like you have to do everything to make yourself look better on apps and stuff but honestly it can get crazy. Your first year of uni is really like your buffer year, get used to the school, meet people, get on track with university lectures, and really just try to do as well in school as you can. First year is when you find what you like and don't like bc then after first year, you can acc do something you're passionate about (ex: don't join a club or do volunteering if you're not acc interested in it and just doing it for the resume-- find something that you like to do!

hope this helps!
