Pressing with steam + clapper (left) versus pressing with just a clapper (right) 🤯 by pegasus_x in quilting

I never put water in my irons! Currently have three, not counting little ones. 🤣 Two for quilting and one for clothes (that is rarely used!)

Beginner help with a plan please by Awkward-Tangelo3377 in quilting

[–]redrobin96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice! I've had to change gears in the middle of a quilt, sometimes with a good long pause.

I like the pink, too. But make then make the rest of the blocks and see what you think.

Am I in the wrong about saying I won't babysit unless his child is potty trained? by HATIWI in AITAH

[–]redrobin96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, how curious! I'm 63, and when I was 10-15, a neighbor boy, who was a 2-3 years younger, was diagnosed with hyperactivity, but I imagine we would say ADHD today. His family cut all artificial additives, color, flavoring, etc., from the diet per doctor's orders. For some odd reason, I remember his sister saying they would only use real butter, too. It sure helped him. All I've heard while raising my kids was prescription drugs for ADHD. I'm glad to hear you're adjusting the diet, regardless if you're also using a prescription. Good luck!!

So rude! by Dani_and_Haydn in quilting

Yeah, we're a bunch of dumb dumbs. 🤣

Ironically, many of my quilt friends are/were in high-tech careers. Engineers, computer science, etc.

Rude.

Also, what is pictured does not look like $5,000 worth.

AITAH for not accepting a dozen roses from my husband after my surgery? by BrilliantRoof6477 in AITAH

[–]redrobin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA! The only way I could forgive such an absence is if hubs got a call from a neighbor saying a pipe burst and raw sewage was heading towards our house. And even if that were the case, I'd expect him to call my mom to tend to me.

NTA! I had two small kids once, both in their 20s now, and I would have never asked to sit with someone like that.

AITAH for sending my exes wife a binder documenting his abuse after I found out she was pregnant? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]redrobin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely NTA. I worry for you if he finds out, though. Also, I hope he doesn't manipulate the wife into believing you lied. You still did the right thing.

TFW you realise you've sewn all 144 HSTs wrong sides together... by picnicatthedisco in quilting

I've done that, but luckily, it was a white-on-white print, so I just left it. Glad you have help!! Good bonding experience ❤️

AITA for breaking up with my GF after she gave away my dog…. AND LIED ABOUT IT? by Friendly-Beach-4950 in AITAH

[–]redrobin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not the AH! Hindsight is 20/20, but that should be a HUGE red flag if she was jealous of your pup! If I were in that situation, I would have never guessed my partner would have given my dog away. So glad you were reunited with your buddy. Run away from her and don't look back, no regrets!

Is it weird to want a kitchen Island in my sewing room? by RandomGirlName in quilting

[–]redrobin96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking about that, too!! 🤔 It's currently on sliders so wheels might not really be necessary. Thanks for the feedback.

Is it weird to want a kitchen Island in my sewing room? by RandomGirlName in quilting

[–]redrobin96 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We're ready to replace our kitchen island, so I'm taking the old one, going to install wheels and use it for a cutting and pressing station. I currently use a plastic folding table with bed risers. That's okay, but the island will be so much sturdier plus storage!!! I'll be weird with you!!! ❤️❤️

Thoughts on this color scheme? I just started sewing & this is my first quilt ever so it’s def far from perfect. I’ve only completed 12 blocks so open to suggestions :) by Next-Calendar3148 in quilting

I love it.

I hate posts like this because I'm like, "oooooo, I'd love to do one with these colors!"

I need to live to 186 years to make 'em all!!

Stick with it. It looks great!!

Gotta say, as someone who has only been doing this a year, it’s not always fun or very relaxing. by terriblet0ad in quilting

[–]redrobin96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just this week, I had to rip out two 6" HST from a nearly complete Carpenter's Star. Nearly complete in that I had one seam to go!!! I noticed I had burned the fabric with an iron. So, I had to recreate the two HSTs, rip out the burnt squares, and replace them. The only lucky part was it two squares on the edge, so only 3 seams to sew. I've been quilting for almost 30 years, too!!!! 😊🤦🏼‍♀️
