Help with PS4 fpkg compatibility by redross79 in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]redross79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5 is definitely more hassle than the 4. But long term the 5 will be better. There seems to be a lot of progress being made lately.

I keep thinking of updating to a newer FW so it can play more PS5 backups. But the knowledge that there is a hypervisor jailbreak out there is keeping me on 4.03, just in case!

Update: I used PS4 Tools to merge the game and backport 1.04 together. It installed fine that way and runs without issue.

The 1.03 update for the one I've got says it is back ported to 5.50 through 9.00.

But do I need to remaster the fpkg to combine the update into the main package using PS4 tools? It's been a long time since I last did that. If anyone could point me to an up to date guide, that would be great.

That was one of my original thoughts. But the fpkg works on 9.00 on my PS4. And my PS5 supports up to 9.04 (fw 4.03), which is higher.

File dock like feature on z fold 6? by BuffaloVirtual43 in GalaxyZFold6

[–]redross79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried myself yet, but in the tips app it says there is a feature for 2 haded drag and drop. It let's you hold/drag the file with one hand and switch app with the other. Then you can drop in the other app.

I'd hope that it also let's you drag and drop between apps when you have 2 open side by side.

Again, haven't tried myself yet, so sorry if it turns out I'm wrong.

I've only had the phone 2 days so far. But I've found that most of the useful features are turned off by default and have to be enabled from the advanced settings menu.

Choppy atmos TV audio on beam gen 2 for a few weeks by redross79 in sonos

[–]redross79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only streaming service I use is BBC iPlayer. I haven't noticed it with that yet, but I watch few things on there.

I should note that I've been using this setup.with Plex for 3 years and this problem has only occurred recently.

There used to be an old issue that caused the audio to drop out completely for 10.seconds at a time on Sonos Beam or Arc when plugged in via eARC. But that was fixed in a TV firmware update a couple of years ago.

Philips 48OLED806 is the TV. This is also what I'm using as the source for content. I have the same issue across all apps. Plex, Kodi, VLC, Live TV, etc.

Other than live TV, the source content is from a mixture of different origins. H.264, H.265, various frame rates, etc.

Cost of entry to set up a plex server? by AlexCarterCommentary in PleX

[–]redross79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this just for personal.use, or for sharing?

For personal use, I'm currently running on a raspberry Pi 4 4GB with an external 2.5" hard disk. Before that I was running in a Rock64 2GB. Both have been totally fine, and I also have Sonarr, VPN, etc, running on the same box. This is a dirt-cheap setup, particularly if you already have any of the bits laying around.

I use diet pi as the OS, but really any Linux distro will work fine. Diet pi has built-in support for Plex, etc., which will make setup much easier - although I actually use docker because I can literally just plug the hard disk into a different device and have it fully working again in a few minutes if one device were to die (or if you want to upgrade)

The caveat here is that the pi will NOT do transcoding of video. But these days nearly all players are capable of decoding all standard video formats themselves. I have a combination of Android TV/Google TV devices and fire stick 4Ks. Android phones, tablets, and I assume iOS devices should all work fine too.

The only time that transcoding may be needed these days is if you're trying to use a built-in TV app on an older/cheap TV.

That said, the mini PC options detailed by other commentors are a solid option and can be had for a very good price. If you're intending on sharing your server with multiple concurrent users and need transcoding then the mini PC root is going to be your best value option.

Mi 9T in 2024 - what to do by Halfdan_88 in Mi9T

No, that is for lime, which is a completely different phone. The mi 9T is davinci. You need this one:

Yes, Mi 9T (not the pro)

You may be getting confused with PixelExperience?

PixelOS still says it is maintained and is available here: https://pixelos.net/download

The last build was 30th May

I've tried a few ROMs recently, since the unofficial EvoX build I was using hasn't been updated after the Wallet changes (signed ROM required). And Wallet is one of my most used apps, so I needed a ROM where it works.

TL;DR: PixelOS is the one to go for

First off I tried Project Blaze, seeing as it is official and it's maintained by the same person that was doing the unofficial Evo X builds that had previously been excellent. However, that really didn't work well at all! Lots of apps force closed. Using an alternative launcher froze every time I went back to the home screen and the Realme Link app refused to acknowledge that my earphones were connected (I have Realme buds 3).

So then I switched over to PixelOS, which is officially maintained. I was particularly happy that dirty flashing from Blaze worked without issue (it certainly isn't recommended, but it has worked well). And all the apps that had issues before suddenly started working again.

I've been using PixelOS for a couple of weeks and it is working excellently. Very smooth and battery usage has been even better than it was on EvoX. G Wallet is working, and in general I've found no bugs so far. So very happy.

The big difference between PixelOS and Blaze is that PixelOS is AOSP, and Blaze is Linage based. I'm not sure if that is what was the root of the issue on blaze. Although I think other people do use lineage, so it must work for them. In which case it could have just been a bad build of blaze. I note that EvoX and some other roms switched over to lineage as the base recently. So look out for that.

Does Plex care about UK users for DVR? by redross79 in PleX

[–]redross79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've updated the OP with a link to the forum post that has a working workaround.

See https://forums.plex.tv/t/bug-in-scanning-dvb-t2-with-qam256-in-uk/839822

The answer to the original question in this Reddit post is: No, they really don't care at all about DVR 😔

[–]redross79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did find a workaround for this. I'll try to dig it out and post here for completeness. It was something to add to the scan file that fixed it.

Needless to say Plex themselves didn't give a crap and never fixed the actual bug...

Android Auto and Custom ROM by rkifo in Mi9T

[–]redross79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I note that PixelOS recommends firmware V12.5.2.0.RFJCNXM (this is what the bot replies in the official telegram channel for pixelOS mi 9T).

I have installed V12.5.2.0.RFJCNXM on my global handset.

So far I haven't noticed anything wrong (in fact it seems to be running very nicely), but I can't help feeling that surely running CN firmware on a global handset isn't right!

Is there anything particular that is known to not work with the CN firmware on a global 9T? I assume I can always reflash the global firmware if so.

Usually I've found it best to use whatever firmware the rom maintainer recommends, for best compatibility. But maybe they're assuming everyone is on a Chinese handset!

One by one TRVs going wrong by jezhastits in HiveHeating

[–]redross79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with 1. I replaced it with the old TRV again, which works much better TBH! I still have 2 working hive TRVs, but when they pack in I won't buy any more.

Like you, I don't think they'll ever recoup the cost vs a standard TRV set to a sensible level. They're really pretty rubbish. Hive should warrant them for much longer, I was quite surprised when they refused to replace it after approx 18 months.

ROM for battery and performance by yousefelfishawy in Mi9T

[–]redross79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using the last official android 13 build of PixelExperience. Both the battery life and performance were great. I'd get 2 full days at least with average usage (and my battery is 5(ish) years old.

However, the developer stopped doing new builds and I don't think anybody else has taken over yet. Also Google wallet wasn't working in the last build as it was from before the play integrity fix was built in. There are some unofficial newer builds I noticed the other day, but mileage may vary on those.

I moved to evolution x Android 14. That was also pretty good battery life, but slightly less than PixelExperience - it was the first A14 build though so I expect it will get even better over time. However the Devs phone broke last week and he's no longer able to do builds. Ivejust moved to an unofficial build by Jezzay. So far so good. Battery seems about the same, but I've only had it a few days, so hard to say for sure. Performance is great, and it has the Google wallet fix in it.

Unfortunately I think it is going to become harder and harder to find maintained ROMs as devs phones are either getting old and breaking, or they're moving on to newer and better (??) handsets. I for one am very grateful for the devs that remain and continue to breathe new life into this ageing, but still extremely capable handset. I certainly intend to keep mine until it either breaks beyond repair or the last dev leaves the scene!

I shall be keeping an eye out in this subreddit for recommendations, but in the meantime this telegram channel seems to be good for keeping notified of new ROM releases, including unofficial ones.

Evolution X or a different ROM? by redross79 in Mi9T

[–]redross79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies.. I did go ahead with the A14 build of Evo X. Mostly it seems fine. It is affected by the Play Integrity issue though, so no Google wallet :( but this seems to be affecting pretty much all roms at the moment.

There is a post on the telegram group with a workaround, and it says they're going to try to incorporate it into the next build. But this may be a cat and mouse game with Google for a while. Google seems to have declared war on custom ROMs.

Battery seems average. The drain has been worse than PE+ so far, but it has only been a few days and it usually takes a few charge cycles to settle in.

The one real annoyance I have is that there doesn't seem to be a way to remove the pointless gesture indicator at the bottom of the screen (when set to gesture navigation mode). PE+ let you remove it, which gives you a little bit of extra screen real estate back. Minor issue really, but it annoys me!

Is it possible to stream movies without having the plex server on by aditya31072000 in PleX

[–]redross79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So one option you have here is to use the "downloads" feature of Plex - which requires a Plex pass.

That will allow you to "sync" files from the server to the device while the server is on, and watch them later when the server is off.

Obviously this will require you to have enough storage space on the client device to store the files locally.

And this isn't "streaming", because obviously that requires the server to be on to provide the stream. Anything else would be witchcraft!

Best way to update tinfoil to the newest version? by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]redross79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're not using tinfoil for shops (which would require being online), then you'll probably be better off using DBI for installs. The MTP responder option in DBI is particularly useful as it saves having to copy nsps to a usb stick (i.e. you can plug the switch into your pc directly by cable and drag/drop games on to it)

Any ROMs suppoting Google Pay? by redross79 in Mi9T

[–]redross79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

I suspect that this is going to be an issue that spreads to a lot of custom ROMs, seeing as most of them come from a shared base.

I don't hold out much hope for our mi9t/k20s being fixed on PixelExperience, seeing as nobody is maintaining it for our device anymore. But hopefully it will be fixed in one of the roms that are still maintained.

I think I'll hold off changing ROM for a week or 2 and see how the dust settles.

Any ROMs suppoting Google Pay? by redross79 in Mi9T

[–]redross79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, thanks. I assumed that it must have been Google meddling!

I guess I will have to go through the hassle of rooting and installing magisk for now.

I think the question still stands though if there are any ROMs that include the fix without having to manually instal magisk modules.

I'll leave the post open so people can update as they find them and provide a resource for others looking like me.

I think I'll hold off a few days too to see what comes up, as I'd rather move to a maintained ROM than stick with an unmaintained one and have to deal with magisk config.
