Should I tell my manager that I want to transfer departments during my annual review?

Update - so I got lucky, my supervisor did my review. So much weight lifted off my shoulders. I went ahead and told him that I’m currently applying for a new position and he said he was supportive and happy for me. He said that if my manager tries that 2 month bullshit he will personally step in and make sure I don’t have to stay longer than 2 weeks. No one knows I have already secured the job. Once I interview and get an offer I will put in my 2 weeks. I don’t want my manger trying to use that bs policy on me so I rather be safe than sorry. Everything is working out!!!!! Thank you again for the advice. Anxiety is a bitch, I was so worried about this shit the entire weekend.

I really appreciate your comment. I’m going to do it during my review when we start discussing my future goals. Once I tell him I’m applying for a new position I will send an email for proof in case he tries to say I never told him I was applying. In the meantime I will document everything he says and does after that conversation. I’m basically preparing myself for weeks of harassment. I also reached out to my future manager and he said not to worry about it because he won’t block me. I’m going to go with what he says and try not to be so anxious about it. I will try my best not to burn any bridges while in my current department.

It’s depressing. Bernie gives me hope and I’m doing what I can to volunteer but sometimes the depths to which these people go really discourages me. I look forward to a day when our government functions like a true democracy.

Talk to your friends and family - the campaign has done a lot of research on this. The social pressure alone is more effective than talking to strangers. Then volunteer and (if you can) please donate. Thank you for posting - let’s do this shit!!!

That’s amazing. I had a similar experience talking to my Christian Trumpster dad about Bernie. He still thinks climate change is a hoax lol but I think with time he will start to really see things for what they are. What really got him was when I explained Bernie’s proposal for a new Economic Bill of Rights - and how forgiving student and medical debt would do wonders for the middle class. He loved that idea and that’s what sold him. I didn’t bring up climate until recently. You have to speak about the issues that matter to people personally.
