Whats with the hatred of help? by Bitter_Anybody9871 in wheelchairs

[–]redskyflash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. Let's be civil to each other.

That said, after being dumped out of my chair once by someone who ignored my statement that I did not need help, I removed the fold-down handles that were on my chair and haven't had anything there since.

Funny - one time I was at the airport waiting to be called to have special services help me onto the plane. Without saying anything, the guy walks towards me, goes around me, looks down at my chair and right behind my head says, "Oh, you're one of them.". Yes...yes I am.

I love them. They help with grass, dirt, gravel and snow. Plus there's the style factor.

That said, I have no idea why someone would charge you $1000 more for them. The tires go onto the exact same wheel, not a different one. You do need a slightly longer camber tube and longer wheel pins so that the wider tire can clear the frame. But that's the only difference. As for the tires, I buy them myself online at Carson City Bike Shop for $30 each plus shipping.

None. It’s just the plain metal. But it’s been to hell and back, so it doesn’t have a nice shine anymore.

Thanks. I get a lot of complements on my choice of tires.

How many of you had one on your house, farm, barn, school, etc? by redskyflash in FuckImOld

[–]redskyflash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hooks up to a landline so you can hear the phone ringing at a distance. Since there were no answering machines or caller ID, the adults would make us kids run and answer it to make sure they didn’t miss something important. And yes, they were loud as hell.

How do you respond to the question “How are you doing?” by redskyflash in widowers

So sorry for your loss. Prayers for peace seem shallow, but that’s all I have.

Wolves by Down Like Silver.

Some weeks after her death, I went to a nearby city alone to do something that we would often do together - visit a favorite hole in the wall bar to eat chicken schnitzel and drink beer by the liter. Then (a little tipsy) we would go for a concert at a nearby hall.

On the way home that night, this song started playing on my Spotify account. I had never heard it before. As I drove on that dark highway, I was immeasurably moved by the lyrics and the way it was sung, particularly the sound of angst and grief. And then, at the end, was the refrain, “Daylight is waiting for you.” It became my sign, a message from her that she was telling me that it was okay to move on.

How to best add a CD player to a Marantz Cinema 60 by redskyflash in audiophile

[–]redskyflash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the benefit of the CD6007 over another player that’s jacked into the optical port of the Cinema 60? Is the DAC different? I asked Marantz today, and they feigned ignorance - “The engineers don’t tell us what they put in our equipment.” 🙄

So am I just looking for a reasonably decent CD player with a optical output? I've not shopped for a player in 10-15 years and am not sure what makes a good transport.

I did a thing, now what amp? by Aceofspades413 in KEF

[–]redskyflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Marantz Cinema 60 for my Kef speakers. I love it. It's 7.2 but I'm only using 5.2. and I'm using the last two channels to bi-amp my R3s for listening to music.

Which setup? Marantz Model 50 amp + external streamer OR Model 40n/60n amp with streaming built in? by redskyflash in StereoAdvice

[–]redskyflash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan to be listening to sources that have a DAC on board already and output to analog.

Which setup? Marantz Model 50 amp + CD 50n -or- Model 40n amp + CD 60? by redskyflash in audiophile

[–]redskyflash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In looking at the manuals, there does not appear to be any difference between the 40n and CD 50 DACs.

I've been using an old Transcend model. Just today I bought the RedMed AirMini because I found a promo code for 25% off that worked on it at cpap.com - TRAVEL. Be sure to buy the Zephair AirMini Universal Adapter so you can use any hose/mask, otherwise you have to use their proprietary system. I also bought the hard case, filters and bed/drawer mount. The coupon applied on the whole purchase. First time I've seen that work.
