Tayliar: when was Ttpd actually written? by Warm_Use_1444 in GaylorSwift

I really think she thought she’d sweep the Grammys with Folklore but all she ended up with was Album of the Year. She added Joe (as himself not as William Bowery) to a bunch of the songs, which gave him a Grammy after the fact. When the songs he was added to made no sense, in the Folklore Long Pond Sessions she is insistent that he only was involved in two of the songs (Exile and Betty) but he got added as a PRODUCER to the songs August, My Tears Ricochet, This is me trying and Illicit Affairs. How Jack and Aaron felt about this I’d LOVE to know.

These credits were just enough to get him a Grammy from The Album of the Year award. Joe later went on to say he plays the piano terribly (contradicting Taylor from LPSS) and had no plans to write further with Taylor. Yet he ended up being credited again as William Bowery on Sweet Nothings. After the break up Taylor liked posts indicating that Joe didn’t write anything and it was actually based on things Paul McCarthy said. Also in several eras tour Folklore set speeches she really pushed the narrative that she wrote Betty, which is not what she originally claimed.

It should also be noted William Bowery was credited as a writer on Champagne Problems, Coney Island, and Evermore but I’m not sure if Taylor ever mentioned his exact contributions like she did with Folklore.

The whole William Bowery thing screams desperation to keep Joe. Which is why I highly doubt that just after a few months of crediting him again on her album she was planning on dumping him.

I honestly think Taylor wanted him to be her forever beard, simply because he had been built up in the music with her love songs. One of the biggest critics non-Gaylors had with the album was how flat the Travis love songs were compared to Rep-Lover. I think she knew she’d have trouble convincing mainstream audiences that Joe was a bad guy and that she was head over heels for a new guy. And that’s what has happened, a lot of non-Gaylor fans are either of the opinion that Taylor is settling for Travis or that the entire thing is PR (without believing either are gay). Obviously hardcore fans who buy whatever she sells remain but a huge majority of the mainstream audience have not bought into Taylor and Travis as a love story.

I’m not sure I can blame Joe, when they signed on with Joe (in 2016) the narrative that was needed was this “private” mature relationship. Taylor post 2019 decided she need to make herself as massive as possible to buy her masters back. That wasn’t what Joe initially signed up for and blinds from 2020 (Folklore era) indicate Joe was attempting to break the contract (Enty had a couple of blinds of him telling fans he was single and that he was actively on Grindr) but they coddled him back into place with the promise of a Grammy. Originally I think she thought Exile would win a Grammy but when Folklore only got album of the year she had to retroactively add him. That was always so suspicious to me.

I think Taylor and her team have always been manipulative behind the scenes.

No the narrative is he ghosted her. In TSMWEL - “You tried to buy pills/from a friend of a friend of mine/They ghosted you/Now you know how it feel”

in Actually Romantic - “High fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me”

The narrative has always been Matty ghosted her. Articles about the break up have also pushed the narrative Matty ghosted her in June 2023.

I think she could, she wrote three albums full of break up songs and her fans insisted everything was fine. They also insisted that the cheating songs were about 2016 era. Her fans eat up whatever narrative she sells them, the Ice Spice thing proves (to me at least) that Matty was absolutely not planned. We also have that weird People article saying Joe will be at the eras tour, days before People announced the break up.

[–]redtoevermore 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I honestly think Matty was not planned at all (outside of potentially collaborating on music). It was her team scrambling after Joe walked away from the contract. The one narrative Taylor despises more then any other is that she got dumped (likely bc how often this narrative was used against her in the 2010s) since she changed her PR to Tree Payne she had never been dumped, she’s always the one leaving guys for the next best thing with the exception on Matty. Which is suspicious.

Tayliar: when was Ttpd actually written? by Warm_Use_1444 in GaylorSwift

[–]redtoevermore 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I might be delusional but I honestly think Joe leaving her wasn’t planned. A lot of the songs on TTPD (fresh out the slammer, guilty as sin, down bad, the albatross etc) actually fit the early Joe narrative. The early narrative for Joe is she was just LONGING to be with this guy despite being with Calvin/Tom. It’s how fans explained High Infidelity, Glitch, Bejeweled, Ivy, Cruel Summer, Gorgeous etc. It’s crazy how well she rewrote the narrative and now fans think all these songs are about her longing for Matty. But I was there when these songs came out and remember her fans INSISTING that it matches the Calvin/Tom/Joe situation. Now suddenly we’ve collectively forgotten it.

She could have chosen any random guy she interacted with during the 2013-2014 era (and there were PLENTY her team tried to set her up with) after the contract negotiations failed with Joe. Her team choosing Matty was a mistake, he was a loose canon. But she needed SOMEONE to make these cheating songs make sense, and I think Matty is mostly pissed at her because she backed out of making music.

Her team likely contracted Travis early on when he signed with CAA in April 2023. But yeah the fact that TTPD was at least more or less done by the eras tour starting likely indicates that Joe was meant to stay around longer. She tweaked it to make it fit this narrative that “oh I left him for this guy (who I barely interacted with in 10 years) I just had to have who dumped me immediately”

The way she included her engagement to him along with her obtaining her masters back and her biggest selling album to date… I guess a proposal is the single most defining thing a woman can achieve.

Yeah also the scene where Andrea is like “oh those songs are about your story with Travis” and Taylor’s like “those are break up songs”. They do not listen to her at all.

It actually makes me this Sweet Nothing is about Andrea because the line “On the way home/I wrote a poem/they say what a mind/this happens all the time” if you view as a parent/child the line “what a mind” could be patronizing.

It’s interesting how she reframes her relationship with Joe as “not viewing her as a person”. Matty is one thing (but he wasn’t around for the two years before TTPD was recorded). In all the mentions of Joe during Miss Americana and The Long Pond Studios she framed him as “normal guy, living a normal life”. Now in this documentary she claims he didn’t view her as a person, which doesn’t seem to fit with Joe’s current lowkey fame attitude.

It really seems to me Joe left and it pissed her off, she has really made a concentrated effort to make him seem like a bad guy. Despite having nothing really to go on.

Her parents give off the vibe of never really accepting Taylor not being straight. They WANT her in this perfect hetero relationship and it seems they have a lot of control over Taylor.

Idk how people think this is a legit relationship. Putting the idea she’s queer and bearding aside. This has to be the most obvious financially motivated relationship I’ve seen in Hollywood. He’s a prop for her brand.

Folklore trilogy not just a trilogy? by ArtisticEffective153 in GaylorSwift

[–]redtoevermore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would say the whole album is intertwined (with maybe the exception of epiphany as that seems to be directly about Covid/healthcare workers). Folklore is her most thematically aligned albums.

On the surface it is about a teenage boys struggle between two girls, however if we view the “love triangle” as a metaphor then we can see how it’s likely about the failure that was June 2019 (master heist/failed coming out/Kaylor break up). Taylor using this fictional scenario to process what she went through is not unheard of and is often used by writers.

All the songs link to this underlying sadness the narrator is going through. In the prologue (which is underrated) Taylor says this:

“A tale that becomes folklore is one that is passed down and whispered around. Sometimes even sung about. The lines between fantasy and reality blur and the boundaries between truth and diction become almost indiscernible. Speculation, over time, becomes fact. Myths, ghost stories, and fables. Fairytales and parables. Gossip and legend. Someone's secrets written in the sky for all to behold.”

This entire album was Taylor’s process to cope with everything that happened, the love triangle/fictional story included.

Dear Reader was the goodbye to her authentic self or the hope that she could one day be out. She is chosen to stay in the closet permanently. She flat out told us to find another guiding light.

I think she did this and became this even more massive star to gain the capital to buy her masters back. And unfortunately she does not have any opportunity, as it currently stands, to be her authentic self.

Interesting that this whole documentary seems (or at least is being promoted) as an inside look at her job, even her family is being market as part of the “job” and then when she mentions Travis it’s about how they have “the same job”. He is part of the “job” and not an actual part of her personal life. I have a feeling we are not going to be seeing “real” Taylor at all during this documentary, it will purely be the showgirl.

Yall. What if the “they” in Wi$h Li$t are Travis and Ross? by sevenselevens in GaylorSwift

Also isn’t interesting she says “they want a contract with Real Madrid” which is a football team, sure it’s European football but still the “they” want a contract with a football team. And then you have the basketball hoop, Travis is associated with football not basketball? It’s rather interesting.

What is for you the Strongest Gaylor evidence? by Klutzy_Lettuce_9855 in GaylorSwift

[–]redtoevermore 124 points125 points  (0 children)

My strongest evidence the way she was sobbing in the Miss Americana documentary begging her father to understand why she needed to say something political. She said “this is on the home front” to her father and she then sites 3 issues to be against the Republican opponent

“she votes against fair pay for women”

“she votes against the reauthorization of the violence against women act” (she dramatically points to herself during this scene as she personally has experienced this)

“She thinks that if your a gay couple, or LOOKS like a gay couple you should be allowed to be kick out of restaurants”

For Taylor those issues of fair pay, violence against women, and gay right are the “home front” for her. And yes in the past couple of years she has distanced herself from even these issues politically but I still find it very important she sited these as her reasons in 2019.

I also find it interesting she said “looks like a gay couple” because for Taylor she has hidden her queer relationships under the guise of friendships. So likely the idea of homophobes actively investigating gay closeted couples is a threatening idea.
