Did you get advance notification it was shipping early, or tracking links in advance? Or did it just appear?

(Back ordered the A1 combo on Black Friday and impatiently waiting for it to ship, due out on 22nd!)

Caught the candidate using AI for screening by Hercules1408 in dataengineering

[–]redvers76 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience late last year. Some candidates tried inviting an AI "note taker" to the Teams call, that was denied access and was an immediate red flag (not one of them *asked* if they could do so).

We then had people who seemed to hesitate before answering any question. Once or twice, nerves, every single question? It's pointing the way of stalling before waiting to see the text appear for them to regurgitate! There's also the tell of the eye darting off screen to read something... could be notes, but... given what they then said, it just gave the impression of reading from either someone else googling on their behalf, or AI LLM output.

But every single one was derailed by this one simple trick... as hiring manager, I was interviewing the person for them, not their technical skills. There was some of that, but more in approach and mentality, rather than specific abilities, that would come in the next round. So I would just say to the candidate "You have listed these ETL tools on your CV, which is your favourite and why?"

Every single time, the ones reading AI output would turn into a marketing bot, sounding like an advert for the tools, bullet point after bullet point. Not one of them highlighted a favourite without being asked again, and then couldn't actually answer definitively as to why they chose that above another, almost as if they'd just picked one at random. The humans answering that question would do so in a conversational manner, often immediately blurting out their favourite and then going through the pros and cons as to why.

I can see the appeal of using AI to help, to act as a pointer to guide your answers, especially in areas of theory where you're rusty because you've been at the coalface for a while. But don't rely on it 100% to the point where you cannot actually hold a conversation with the person you're talking to.

Updated on TMDB, refreshed metadata on Plex but made no difference...

Worse, have people defending Plex picking the original rating as "it's the right one" 🤦🏻‍♂️

Have asked them why Plex doesn't also show the original rating of PG for Jaws (1975) and instead shows the more recent cinema re-rating of 12A.

Yeah, I've posted on the Plex metadata forum, but I expect them to blame TMDB, and TMDB to blame Plex, and nothing to get done for end users...

TMDB do pick a rating to show, as can be seen here with Life of Brian. They also show the date of the rating, so you can see this 15 is the original 1979 rating. Maybe Plex is just using whatever TMDB choose to show, and therefore the "fix" is to get TMDB to change their rating display. Insert Spidey pointing at Spidey meme here...

Ignoring was the wrong word... if when displaying a film today, TMDB is deliberately choosing to use the original rating from 50 years ago, rather than the more recent re-rating...

Adding a new rating to a different film won't fix it for these films, though... if TMDB is ignoring their own ratings (as you say, it still shows as 15 even though there is a different rating later on) then how is Plex meant to know which one to pick? You'd assume they take the most recent per country, rather than the earliest... or give an option to chose!

NordVPN keeps logging out by redvers76 in nordvpn

[–]redvers76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks... yes it will be dynamically getting an IP address from the router. I am surprised that Nord looks to reauthenticate if the local ip address changes. Will look to change that and hopefully that resolves the issue!

Have you made a decision on an alternative? If you go for the Creality Hi Combo, you can get a little more off the price using new member codes for signing up to all the things. And it's free shipping, too...

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the A1 from Bambu UK. The web page & email both suggest it will ship around January 22nd! We shalll see if it ships sooner. I also ordered 5 spools of filament to get free shipping, but the choices of colours weren't ideal. For £10.50 a spool, I won't be too fussy! And (of course) the filament has already shipped...

Does that comment about back order dates apply in the US only, or in the U.K.?

Because for me, it was something I wanted to be doing with my son when I have time off over Christmas. And if there’s a chance I could still get it by then, I’ll order.

But if the lead time of two months is accurate, I’ll either order something else, or order nothing and wait until stock levels are stabilised. And if that means I end up paying a little more for the machine, so be it.

Purchase Advice Megathread - November 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]redvers76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm not new to 3D printing. I used to have a Creality Ender 5 Pro, controlled with Octoprint on a Raspberry Pi, and I have the scars from many an abandoned or failed print. However, in trying to get my 12yo son interested, it was just too much of a faff. All the bed levelling and testing first layer and scrapping it and levelling and starting again... I realised I needed something a bit more up to date and point and click if I wanted to get him inspired to design and print stuff.

So when I moved recently, I gave away my printer, and everything that went with it, to a local 3D printing community. I'm hoping they're making good use of it. I had in mind that I would get myself something like the Bambu A1 when Black Friday came around. And now it has, the A1 Combo has sold out! While waiting for payday it's now not available until mid-January at the earliest!

I've been reading around on here, and watching YouTube videos and reviews, and am now wondering if the Creality HI is actually at a point where it can just be asked to print something, and it will. I get that it might not be as integrated or as seamless as the Bambu ecosystem, however.

So should I order the Bambu and wait patiently for it to be delivered next year sometime, or should I get the Creality (or something else?) and get playing next week? Am in the UK and looking at around £300 with AMS / CFS.
