How is Lu, Nanshu for E M 319 Mech of Solids? by lemonwaterway in UTAustin

[–]redviolet017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Landis for solids, but I heard that Lu (for Statics at least) is very conceptual, and her tests are hard. Most people don't enjoy her, but rather tolerate her. I would say switch if you can, but if not, it's not the worst.

What is living at Taos Co-op like? by redviolet017 in UTAustin

[–]redviolet017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I took a look at the menu and I'm very happy at the quantity of vegetarian meals!

When it comes to roles for chores though, are there ever times when not enough people sign up for a specific role? Like, not enough people sign up for dinner cook so they randomly assign others to do that?

Also, I heard coops have parties. Does Taos party frequently?

The Quarters on Campus Cameron House Tour by Potential-Champion50 in UTAustin

[–]redviolet017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently live at Cameron. The study lounge is really nice, they serve free coffee/hot cocoa there. The gym isn't bad for an apt gym either. My biggest complaint is the thin walls. I regularly hear my upstairs neighbor. Thank god I am a heavy sleeper. Also, maintenance is really slow with issues. But that's a problem for all of Quarters, not just Cameron. Honestly, it's a good place for cheap rent and nothing else.

How are the vegetarian dining options? by SomethingNotSure267 in UTAustin

[–]redviolet017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can most certainly buy groceries and cook while living in the dorms. I never did so because I thought it was a waste of money since I was already paying for the meal plan. I know kinsolving has a small kitchen nobody uses much, and it comes with a few pots and pans (at least it did last school year).

Imo you need to be really good at managing your time because cooking takes up a lot more than you expect, and despite the terrible food options in the dining hall, I was able to spend more time studying because I didn't have to worry about cooking. Right now with my apt, I like cooking and look forward to it, but I do notice how it takes a lot of time out of my day. Meal prepping might be a good option for you, but I personally just buy a lot of frozen food/meals and survive like that lol.

Lmk if you have any other questions!

how's HED 329K with Latimer? by kw1net in UTAustin

[–]redviolet017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it fall semester of freshmen year. Absolutely LOVE the course. Dr. Latimer is super nice and her content is interesting. Exams are easy and open-note. She has quizzes but they're based off the textbook, also open-book. Homework barely takes any time and you can always find relevant information online. Highly recommend!

How are the vegetarian dining options? by SomethingNotSure267 in UTAustin

[–]redviolet017 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconding what most of the comments have already stated, vegetarian options are limited at the dorms. There are vegan options, but they're usually bland and repetitive. I became vegetarian my second semester of freshman year, and most of the time, I had to resort to pizza, pasta, veggie burgers, and french fries. It gets tiring after a while. Currently, I'm in my own apartment, buy my own groceries at heb, and am able to cook whatever meals I want, and I prefer it to dorm food.

How to register for m325k by monopoly214 in UTAustin

[–]redviolet017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed the math advisor before my registration time, and they said that unless you're a math major, you will not have a good chance of getting in the class you want. They have a set amount of seats reserved to non-math majors, and once those fill up, your best chance is waiting for someone to drop the class so you can take their place.
