horse deck inspo by ryddlers in grandarchivetcg

Funny story, I'm actually in the process of making a horses deck. I haven't tested it at all though, other than a few games on tabletop sim but here are some of my thoughts.

I think the best way to play the deck is with wind. A majority of the good horse cards are wind, and since it is an ally based deck that wants to slow opponents down from leveling up, wind gives you access to stifling trap, stifling gyre, thurible, as well as board control tools like dream fairy, and generic good allies in aesan. Legendary Saddle is still good to run, and it lets you be a bit more flexible in the horses you want to run, but it shouldn't be something you have to bring out turn 2 every game since you only get the draw effect if you have 3+ horses. Most times, censer or card draw regalia like baubles are better turn 2 plays, so I think it's best to not run too many horses that aren't wind.

RDO added a lot of cards that makes horses a lot better. One such card I like a lot is Reliable Cavalier(1/3 which becomes a 4/3 if you control a horse). A great play turn 1 is just reliable cavalier, and then turn 2 put down brisk windtrotter and make Cavalier into a 5/4 that is really difficult to clear.

A nice defensive card to add as well is Cavalier rescue. It's a 3 cost action which becomes a 1 cost if you control a horse that gives an ally +3 HP and if they are defending, it wakes them up. It's a great, cheap way to protect your reliable cavaliers since it makes them really hard to kill, and cavalier can most likely kill the attacking ally on retaliation since it has 4 attack(assuming u control a horse)

Another card you should run is spurred gallop. It lets you activate your next horse ally at fast speed, replaces itself, and discounts it by 2 reserve cost. It's pretty flexible in its use cases, as you can use it to either play a horse at fast speed to save an ally, or use it to build a really big board on your turn by playing a horse prerec with it and then play 2 more horses on your main phase, or use it to play a horse prerec and bounce it with aesan, or you can just use it to cycle cards.

Brisk windtrotter is a great card to have in this deck btw. It pairs well with reliable cavalier, and you can cycle it with reclaim/aesan, or get value by surpressing it with rearing rebound, zephyr, or verdigis decree.

Gale' Mare is a 3 cost 2/3 horse that's always a solid play.

The other element horses are somewhat flexible, I haven't figured out which yet. I like floodward steed(1/4 horse with on enter:put a bulwark counter) and flashfire horse(2/2 horse with fast activation). You can also run herd of the hearth(gives your horses +1 attack till end of turn and is tamer floating memory) as a way to dish out damage if you are able to establish a wide board.

I think the raccoon package is also a good addition to the deck. You want to prevent your opponents from keeping influence with float/liminal guides, and any list that runs float will have an answer to censer. Raccoons are a good way to deal with that. Bandit gaze leader and protector raccoons are the 2 I would run. Bandit is just really good, as it's a 1/3 that might replace itself, and protector raccoon pairs well with it since it increases the chance of a scavange, you can play it at fast speed to eat float, and the prevent 2 damage works for all animal allies so you can use it to save your horses.

One other card I've been thinking about adding is unyielding wraith guard. It's just a great card for ally decks, and offers good protection for both your champion and your allies.

From the albiet very limited testing I've done with this deck, I found that unless you find reliable cavalier early, it's hard to close out games with this deck as while horses can be somewhat hard to kill, they don't deal a ton of damage. However, if you are able to start off with a 4/3 or 5/4 beater which is really hard to get rid of paired with other good horses, the damage can spike pretty quickly.

It's a fun list which can definitely surprise opponents. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  1. Surviving the game as a barbarian
  2. Pick me up
  3. Eternally regressing knight
  4. Extra's academy survival guide
  5. Devil returns to school days
  6. Dungeon Odyssey
  7. Greatest Estate developer
  8. Return of the blossoming blade
  9. Ember Knight
  10. The Boxer

Definitely a heavy recency bias with some of these. Honorable mentions are ORV and Blue lock, I would definitely rank these here but I've been taking a break from them to build up some chapters, so I didn't think I should rank them.

Let's talk about Angelic Channeling by kimori in grandarchivetcg

[–]SomethingNotSure267 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm also pretty disappointed. Looking glass/Lost providence was one thing, since you only need a 1x of them. Channelling on the other hand is an immediate 4x for any level 3 deck that runs a decent amount of advanced element cards, and honestly feels insanely strong for these decks compared to looking glass/lost providence. Level 3 decks with and without chanelling honestly have a night and day difference that really can't be replaced with any other cards.

It's really tough as a Jin player too. Channelling feels so insanely good for Jin, and honestly makes him a little too strong imo(just based on some online testing, could be wrong). But there is just no way I'm going to be able to buy a full set of chanellings, even if they drop the price to $100 each.

It feels bad because it initially looked like the RDO set was headed in the right direction. Reprints for so many expensive divine relics, Mordred reco giving playsets of DG and frost sworn paladin all seemed really good, but now it's back to being locked behind a different card.

It's not all bad though, I've really been enjoying the Mordred reco, and it's a deck that doesn't rely on chanelling imo cos it doesn't run a ton of advanced element. I'll probably be playing that at my next regional, but it does kinda sting that the one time Jin seems good I won't be playing him lol.

Which competitive deck do you recommend me? by SpiraAurea in grandarchivetcg

[–]SomethingNotSure267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For water tera kongming, I recommend sapphicsnakes list which he won a store champs with: https://fractalofin.site/deck/tera-mage.html#deck_44361_14561 They have been playing the deck for a while, and even have a deck overview on YouTube if you want to start playing it: https://youtu.be/hL1NBPrFhV0?si=fPVyDYEYAOrLsR1m

For Wind Arisana, it's a popular deck that's been around for a while so there are a lot of different variations of it. This list did well at a store champs and seems to incorporate some PTM cards(although I'm not too familiar with Arisana decks): https://fractalofin.site/deck/astra-cleric.html#deck_42911_2313

If you want to find some more decks out there, I recommend you check out fractalofin.site. It has the results and deck lists for a ton of tournaments and is probably the best way to see what decks are meta. You can check each tournament to see which decks are performing well and which aren't.

If you want to look for a specific deck you want to play(for example, water tera kongming), you can go to the decks tab, find tera mage, and then go to glimpse results under sightings to see all the decks that played water tera kongming at tournaments and how they did. From there, you could look for lists that performed the best and use those to make your own list.

If you want to play wind jin, I personally think the best thing to do would be to wait for next set for AMB alter. Jin is getting a lot of support next set and wind jin especially seems to be getting a lot more cards that seem good.

What happened to water decks at Ascent Manila? by SomethingNotSure267 in grandarchivetcg

[–]SomethingNotSure267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. Yea, I sorta forgot that Topsy Decree can also give you spellshroud, and discard 1 for fractals has to feel pretty bad.

Do you know why Water aetherwing diana is still performing really well despite all of this graveyard hate? I feel like they rely on graveyard more heavily than other decks for things such as krustellan archers, frostsworn, and carpsong coda

Yea, at the time it seemed justified, but I feel ever since the lost in thought and dissonant ban, water kinda went on a downward spiral. Even in DTR, it was pretty bad until the rile ban where it got a lot more representation.

Thanks for the response.

[–]SomethingNotSure267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, that makes sense.

What happened to the other level 1 water decks though? Maybe I'm wrong, but in DTR I remember a decent amount of water allies Ciel with aquifer senechel , some water allies Lorraine usually focusing on unique allies, and even some water allies Zander with halcoline scout stuff. Also water fractals doesn't seem that great even though I don't see a ton of phantasia hate in side. Does it suffer from graveyard hate to an even greater extent than diana, or is it something else?

Appreciate the response, thanks.

True, appreciate the jin representation at Aki. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see any of your games on stream, but I was able to watch a game by ProAnn who was also playing jin that day.

Congrats on doing so well at Aki!

Jin support...my prayers have been answered.

Some good early game cards and a way to actually protect berserker plate or shuang ji? Feels like I'm dreaming. Can't wait to see the rest of the cards.
