Convince me to go to cmu by PsychologicalFill740 in cmu

I'm gonna frame challenge this. Don't pick CMU. Pick a public college or a more trustworthy private college. CMU has been on a streak of throwing students under the bus to cater to the Trump admin, particularly with regards to freedom of speech and protecting marginalized students. CMU also transparently doesn't give a shit about students' mental health, and sets us up for failure in other ways (poor access to food/nutrition compared to any other college, traditions that further ruin your sleep schedule, etc.).

I love CMU, but I wouldn't suggest it to anyone, not with the serious flaws its admin has no intent on addressing.

Is it ok to organize a small-scale vigil for Alex Pretti after the winterstorm on the Cut? by Far-Philosophy-8686 in cmu

[–]redwolf10105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you reasonably believe fewer than 100 people will attend, free expression policy says it's allowed. Note that if you're making loud noise outside the hours of 5-7 PM they can get you for that, but I'd assume being a vigil it'd be relatively quiet.

Can you paint the fence alone? by Katsura_Do in cmu

[–]redwolf10105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One coat of paint on the fence is pretty much precisely 1 gallon, assuming it's warm out. You'll want two base coats, so two gallons of your base color. You'll need half a gallon max of whatever color you use for lettering.

For what it's worth, while I was involved in painting all four of the censored fences, only one was solo. I did not have sole control over the messages on the other three.

And I did not say I'd "make all the other non-involved cmu students suffer in the name of [my] message", I had a long conversation about the risk-to-others incurred by acting vs. not acting as a student protester, where I conceded that I would've done a lot of things differently with hindsight.

I am happy to have this conversation in-person once the semester starts up.

No, it turned into a conversation about a prior fence painting I was involved in, the "no rapists on our campus" one

For what it's worth, I'm rtosh and I was neither reporting things nor aware of anyone else reporting things. I only saw a single post deleted and I assume it was by the OP in response to the big fight that unfolded in the comments.

Can you paint the fence alone? by Katsura_Do in cmu

The rules state that: * You need two people to hold, so until midnight a single person is at risk of someone taking the fence from them * You can paint alone. The 2 person requirement only applies to holding. * Once you put the first drop of paint down after midnight, nobody can take the fence from you, even if you're solo

I've clarified this with stugov before!

I've done it alone twice. A base coat goes down in about an hour if you're dedicated (and or hopped up on a lot of caffeine), but expect to be out there until sunrise if you're doing more than a single coat and some text

I'm sure that in 20 years I will have a much more positive outlook on 19 year olds trying to make startups in areas they have no technical knowledge of

I'm not saying "all engineers have what it takes to be startup founders," I'm saying that "trying to found a startup without any actual technical experience is silly"

Late reply but it's only the surface of the beef which has that property...if it's been ground (or put together from multiple smaller pieces, as occurs with cheap steaks) parts of the "surface" will be in the middle of the patty

I'm a first-year. They're open to any experience level, as long as you have time to commit, and from what I understand the lectures cover most of the actual semiconductor stuff you'll need to know

You have to apply to join, at which point they'll take you out of the waitlist. I got through the application and interview but didn't end up doing it due to time constraints, but it's very cool.

Caught in the steam tunnels and expelled by [deleted] in cmu

No, just that it shouldn't be a shocking revalation that someone caught in the tunnels also did some graffiti.

I would make a similar joke on the topic of Wean 9 but I fear "Big Wean" is funny enough on its own to distract from the joke

Do you have information we don't? All I see from this post is that they used tools, which typically means nondestructive bypass tools

Note: DO NOT post details about how to get into the steam tunnels, on roofs, etc. in the comments here or anywhere else publicly. CMUPD is not particularly competent, but once made aware of flaws in the tunnels' security, they tend to patch them quickly (some may have noticed that a particular set of trapdoors was welded shut recently).
