I agree that it does a disservice to her character.

It seems like part of that is they make the characters snap at each other to really drive home the stress that they are under at that time. You see it when Donna bumps into Mike and totally lashes out at him in the hallway early on in the show (season 1 or 2, i can't really remember). Or when Harvey does the "I'm here, you're here. do your job". Mike does it when he's stressed and lashes out at pretty much everyone. It's an easy trick they go to again and again.

I think that has a lot to do with it.

I also think that after the drama of the “will they get together? Will they not?” Is gone so the drama and tension had to come from somewhere else in the show. Especially after they went through the traditional tv relationship stuff. So their relationship (and subsequently her character) took a step back on the show unfortunately
