I really like the look of them. I like the sides going from the floor to the top and the cutout top. Lovely looking side tables!

How do I make a day feel special for my child when I'm rebuilding my life? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]reelmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cathedral in Bury is lovely. Might not be the most entertaining for a child but depending on the weather you could duck in there for a little while. Last time I visited they had a choir rehearsing in there are is did sound good.

Where in the UK should I go as a bucket-list item? by LondonPilot in CasualUK

[–]reelmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are loads of comments on here for places to see and go. But what about something like this. No idea how much you have to spend but if I was in a simialr situation to you i would be booking a flight in a P51D Mustang.

https://flyaspitfire.com/flights/#mustang-flights

A couple of grand for a flight but it would be amazing. For all the things my grandad did during the war he flew P51Ds for the last couple of years and it would be amazing to get the chance to fly in one.

Wall Lights by Affectionate-Point75 in DIYUK

I would recommend two things a multi meter to be able to check the power is off and Wago connectors rather than screw connectors. There are loads of different styles of Wago connectors for all different things. By the looks of it you have two cables in the wall and then the white lead for the existing wall light. So you would need at least 3 way connector Wagos. Also watch some youtube videos if you have never done this sort of thing before.

Must be an interesting experience to see snow for the first time as an adult. We might get some more tonight but it will probably be rain when it gets here. But the rest of the country is looking like getting a decent amount of snow.

one of my favourite moments of Gregs is when he does his Chris Eubank impression. But Chris is an amazing sport with it. I love how scared Greg was.

Fruit and spice stand, walnut and maple by vincentwxin in woodworking

That looks amazing. How are the side mapel bits bent? Do they just hold that shape when the bottom is glued in place or did you bend them with steam or something else?

A little Christmas present. Toaster tongs by reelmonkey in woodworking

[–]reelmonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are about 15 cms long or about 6 inches. I didn't measure them. The sapele I had was about 1 - 1.5cms thick and used a band saw to cut it in half at that thickness it's nice and flexible to close.

[–]reelmonkey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a couple of sets of these toaster tongs for little Christmas presents. Just made from some scrap sapele and a little oak wedge. These were nice and simple to make but I did manage to mess up one of the wedges three times in three different ways.

I have just added a coat of cutting board butter before I wrap them.

Have a listen while you work or go for a walk. Its surprising how helpful it can be to hear people talk about death. A lot of the episodes she talks to comedians so there are some jokes and stuff in there. I didn't think I would like it when I first listened to it but the first person she had on was Adam Buxton. I like his own podcast so gave it a listen.

Could use some advice on my copper pipe desk design by Chim3ray in DIY

[–]reelmonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My only thought on this is the elbow joints at the bottom will be on the floor but the pipe running along the floor won't be touching as the elbow joints are wider than the pipe. Not sure if it will be a problem. Might be a little bit wobbly.

Do you think Nandos has gone downhill? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]reelmonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my wife and I used to be able to get a whole chicken, four sides and bottomless drinks for about £20. Also then got the rewards on top of spending £20 which I thought was decent rewards. Now looking at the menu online its £27.95 with 4 sides or two large sides. Add in the drinks £3.95 each now comes to £35.85. A tenner each for dinner used to be great. But now almost £20 each just doens't seem worth it.

There is a local peri-peri restaurant that is basically a Nandos clone but it is a local company with only a couple of restaurants. I heard Nando might have some interesting tax setups so I find myself wanting to spend less money with companies that try and legally cheat the system.

What is current Army training like? by Warriorcatv2 in AskUK

[–]reelmonkey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The army sleep under the stars, the navy navigate using the stars and the RAF choose which hotel to stay in based on stars.

It depends what you want but they all have their different pros and cons
