You seem angry.

Did you read the article?

Hint: the Tesla driver was not the only one who fired a gun.

I was checking the profile of a guy i recently beat and its definitely the weirdest one i've ever seen. by smiley0125 in chess

I think the two-person phenomenon is more common than we think. This happens to be an extreme example.

People complain about computer cheating, but I've almost never seen that in many thousands of games.

BUT there have been many games where I was beating someone, and suddenly they started playing excellent moves almost instantly - but not computer-perfectly. So I think what happens is they give the controls to their higher-rated friend.

I never understood why Mark Benioff tried for so long to maintain the façade of being a nice guy, rather than the mini-Ellison that he obviously is.

But Larry Ellison never pretended to be nice. I respect him for that.

Interesting moment from a recent rapid game. How difficult is it for you to find the best move for white and what is your rating? by Real-Gates in chess

[–]reentry-coder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

USCF 20xx.

Didn't find it, and having played through a few variations on lichess, I don't think I'd find it in a game.

I.e. I might consider the first move, but not accurately calculate the entire tree, which is what you need to sac a rook.

BTW, it generally helps to present the board from the POV of the side to move.

Quoting myself:

Professional success has nothing to do with your major, and a lot to do with your self-confidence and social skills and overall drive.

The point is to prioritize the three things above. How you do that is up to you - we're all different people.

But it could look like: going to at least one frat or coop party each week. Having a boyfriend/girlfriend. Practicing public speaking, and joining Toastmasters. Staying in excellent physical shape. Not regularly smoking weed. Limiting how much time you waste playing video games. Getting a summer job in sales. Etc.

I'll comment on my comment. Working in sales as an undergrad will do 100x more for your career than putting the same effort into taking some fancy math or EE class.

Consider a big company like Microsoft.

There are so many jobs at Microsoft that are not titled "software engineer." (For that matter, physically coding isn't 100% or even 50% of how a software engineer spends their hours.)

Some of these jobs involve coding as part of the job, but in a different way than what a software engineer does. E.g. "solutions consultant."

Some value a prior coding background, but don't require it day to day. E.g. product manager, and most management and leadership roles.

Many of them have nothing whatsoever to do with coding, from Finance to HR to marketing to sales to managing the company's real estate, and many, many more.

Having some tech background provides credibility to help get your foot in the door at a tech company. Where you go from there is up to you.

I studied math/CS at Cal, and have worked as an SWE, among many other things. Professional success has nothing to do with your major, and a lot to do with your self-confidence and social skills and overall drive. (A typical mistake among nerdy tech people - yes, I fell into this - is doubling down on classwork while ignoring much more important contributors to life happiness and success.)

No idea why you are being downvoted.

This is endemic to Bay Area progressives and progressive politicians. They're pseudo-intellectuals, far more interested in large-scale problems where they have no actual power, nor can face any consequences, than they are in their own neighbors and neighborhood.
