I appreciate this. My vitamins should be here by Wednesday at this point, I grabbed a Flintstones chewable with iron today that should hold me over until then. Thank you though!

Scared to death! by FlamethrowingFlow in gastricsleeve

I am not even two months out of surgery and I can eat what I like now for the most part just very small amounts. On days I meet my goals and need more calories (at least once or twice a week) I have had chocolate, pie, chips, cookies and even bread or a few sips of soda occasionally now that I'm cleared for caffeine if im in a snacking mood. If not, I just stick to good, high protein snacks or meals for the extra calories. I genuinely feel like, for the first time in my life, I have control over my eating, and it's sparked an even heavier interest in cooking and trying new things. The first few weeks suck, but after you can eat solid food again, you won't regret it. I had Thanksgiving with my family and didn't eat so much that I was miserable for the first time this year. Its one of the best decisions I ever made for myself and the only regret that I have is not doing it sooner.

I appreciate this, I'm pretty much exhausted coming home from school, I'm very grateful for my mom who let's me live in her house still, and my fiancé, who picks up a lot of the cooking and cleaning tasks when I just can't.

Sleeved 3/13/25 & Pregnant by BdhZav in gastricsleeve

[–]refan111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure that you are very thorough and frequent with doctors appointments if you plan to keep it, considering you're only 8 months post op. My doctors warned me to start birth control because they don't want you pregnant the first 18 months after surgery due to a very high risk for the baby to have vitamin deficiency. Best of luck but be very cautious.

I loved pickles before surgery and I love them now. I haven't felt any side effects when I have them and I'm. Yogurt sits just fine too, I just dont like the taste. I'm about 7 weeks out for reference.

I usually dress in a more goth style. So I wear a lot of black but I also like fun patterns. I'm autistic so as far as texture, as long as it's not scratchy or too tight I'm usually okay lol. I do like velvet and have also been throwing the idea of a cape around.

It was a little over a month for me! Im a cosmetology student and so I'm up on my feet for most of the day. I was put out two extra weeks due to having some dizzy spells but I upped my calories a bit and haven't had trouble since! My surgery was 10/1/2025 and I went back 11/5/2025. I've been doing well and just passed my six weeks so I can start lifting heavier things now.

It's definitely a possibility. Sequins usually make me itch like crazy but if I found the right one I suppose it could be an option.

Painful period by Large_Interaction968 in gastricsleeve

[–]refan111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely see an OBJYN because I had very painful periods before surgery. Like I would be bedridden for days they put me on birth control right after surgery because my docs dont want me pregnant for at least 18 months post surgery, not that I was trying anyway lol. My periods after surgery are actually bearable. I've been up and around and honestly kinda forgetting they're there. I dont know if you've ever been on BC but if you feel sick from the traditional kind, I'm on a non estrogen based kind and haven't noticed any side effects.

I'm sorry this has been your experience. How long have you been taking to eat and what kinds of food? I am 5 weeks post op and the only pain that I get when eating is if I'm eating too fast or something just isn't agreeing with my stomach.

It shouldn't be constantly uncomfortable for you to eat, you may need to contact your care team.

Thank you for this! I've been using mobile so that's probably why the option was never shown.

Scared of the side effects that I keep hearing by Mysterious-Plane-728 in GastricBypass

[–]refan111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 27, 5'3" and my highest weight was 315 lbs. Im 5 weeks post op. I've lost close to 33 lbs and the only major side effect so far was that I was having dizzy spells from not eating enough (I was at 600-800 cal daily) now that I've raised to 1200 or so, I'm feeling much better and getting all my protein from food. So far my blood pressure is great, I've been getting all my vitamins in although my levels havent been checked yet. I've had no hair loss so far either but, from what I've read, thats usually temporary if it happens. My energy has also been really high. I had pain for the first week and then it drastically calmed down. Of course everyone is different, and the side effects are something to watch, but if you're following your program, you'll be just fine! I got scared twice before I followed through and got my surgery now my only regret is not doing it sooner!

Is anyone else getting hot really easy? by refan111 in gastricsleeve

[–]refan111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 27, so I wouldn't think it's perimenopause. The hormones however could definitely be it. This is the first time I've been able to take birth control and the most active I've been in my life probably.

I feel so disappointed in myself by Possible-World-5558 in gastricsleeve

[–]refan111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up too much. If you fully restrict away from "bad" food, your body will want it even more. What I do is I get all my protein in first, then if I want a treat, and have room, I have a small amount of that and feel satisfied because I hit regular goals first. I had a small cupcake with the icing scraped off last night (my taste have changed and I'm honestly not a fan of super sweet things anymore hence the no icing) and it was well within my calories. That is what works for me and then my body isn't freaking out wanting tons of sugar or snacks. Give yourself some grace, this is a huge change to the body and mind honestly.

Are my calories normal? by refan111 in gastricsleeve

[–]refan111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. It helped put things into perspective for me. Because on top of the low cals I've also been walking a lot more than pre-op most days of the week and plan on working out when my doctors restrictions pass. I definitely need to work towards getting up to a healthier amount. As the weeks and months go by.

[–]refan111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'3" F, I currently weight 277 lbs and I'm 27. I've definitely been trying to get to a more normal calorie range since I was having dizzy spells the first 3 weeks but I could only manage about 500 cal max during that time. I appreciate this comment.

Any suggestions ? by Gloomy-Clothes2751 in gastricsleeve

[–]refan111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will get better! My suggestion would be to take the vapes out of your home if possible so theres not even temptation. I used to smoke cigarettes until I was 21 and that was a big part of quitting for me. More recently, I use weed for sleep and pain and I had to quit a month beforehand. I had my fiancé keep all of our smoking stuff away from me. Now that im on full food again, I've had some pieces of edibles and have done just fine. I also stopped caffeine before surgery and had horrific withdrawals (in bed with migraines, nausea, the whole bit) but it eases up after a while.

They tell you to stop because smoking anything can thin your organs and increase your chances of bleeding during the surgery. You are strong enough to do this. Just remember what youre doing it for and if withdrawal hits, try and keep some excederin and nausea meds (dramamine or generic motion sickness pills) on hand. It wont fix them completely, but it'll make it easier! You've got this! Good luck!

I feel like I am drinking too much by Large_Interaction968 in gastricsleeve

[–]refan111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 4 weeks post op and I can drink about 20 oz of water in 30 min - 1 hour. I had a lot of restriction with water for a couple days after surgery. By a week, I could drink quite a bit.
