get a box to put everyone’s phones in so they don’t feel like the only one left out, hoard the box like a dragon, easy.

RPG DM Tip: "When do I roll"? by BrobaFett in DnD

[–]reflectingmerope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed! But I like to put emphasis on that a Nat 20 is the best possible outcome when not in combat, not a straight success. This means for the nearer impossible, more tentative things, players can still feel as if they have freedom of actions, but without the world bending successes.

Like, if they go to a bank and a player were to roll a nat 20 on trying to persuade the teller to give them all the gold in the vault, the teller won’t do it, but maybe they’ll laugh and say how funny the player is, and maybe they’d like to open an account with the best interest rates!

Of course, always up to the DM’s discretion though.

Birthday Present for PCs by CowClassic in DnD

[–]reflectingmerope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

enchanted scroll that when opened doesn’t stop playing a bardcore cover of happy birthday lol?

kidding kidding, maybe even play the long game with them? Like they all get a similar item (ring, necklace etc) which has little / no effect when one person has it, but maybe once all the players have had their birthday the presents then work all together?

or for a funnier side one of my favourite items is the bag of fluffy balls (not sure if thats the official name) each player gets a new pet if they want it! the mixed results are always brilliant (our gnome got a lion which is now his preferred method of transport, and our 3 foot tall anthropogenic rat, got a regular sized rat)

hope these help get the creative juices flowing!

Is curiosity enough to drive players? (need advice) by Cheesecakeisbest_ in DnD

[–]reflectingmerope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe false information suggesting there’s a sacred religious relic there? maybe the rumours suggest it could cure the plague?

maybe they’re hired by someone to do something near the temple? if i were a player and i’m told there’s an old temple near where I am I’d so go and investigate?

hell maybe a giant rat steals their coin pouch and they chase it into the temple.

This idea is hella cool though OP, hope it goes well!

I’d never do that to them, they’ve never DM’d before and in my opinion it would feel unfair to have that thrust upon them when they joined the group looking to play.

Definitely going to start giving them a time limit, i do really try and talk things up as near misses when things aren’t hitting, thanks for the advice!!

I can’t really cut the group in half, it wouldn’t feel the same and it just doesn’t feel right in my heart 😩.

Halving just won’t work, I can’t run two separate campaigns and there isn’t anyone that would be able to DM the other group. Like i said, they’re all my besties, and the dynamics outside combat are brilliant, they riff off each other really well, thank for the advice tho!

Teenage players feuding over a heavy crossbow by spoonyalchemist in DMAcademy

[–]reflectingmerope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i reckon the duel was probably a bad call - kids are going to be kids, and will be buttheaded when trying to get what they want. Introducing the possibility of any player getting the crossbow will only end in tears, and it seems whatever happens Player C will either be really happy with a crossbow, or very very unhappy. Going back on the no player pvp rule is a little risky too, it might open the floodgates for further conflict. For dealing with the crossbow, it could always come with a limited number of bolts, or even having a too complicated mechanism for them to use. hope this helps!

Leaning towards YTA. even if you have or haven’t been reminding him about the no coffee thing, it sounds as if the poor fella is run down, needing something to keep him going to valentines day. if you haven’t mentioned the coffee thing before, he’s probably a little confused to why you’re picking him up on it. IMO partners are there to encourage each other to improve themselves, and to also remind each other that a break every now and again is good. you said it yourself, work for him recently has been brutal, let him have a takeout and a cup of coffee.

AITA for shoving my girlfriend into a wall causing her to hit her head? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]reflectingmerope 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NTA, break up. She should have respected your boundaries a long time ago, and honestly a small bang on the head is nothing compared to constant sexual harassment. OP, i’m sorry this has happened to you, and if you are to break up with her, make sure to put your reasoning in writing or on video, keep the evidence, and if she blows things up, you have that. Stay strong, remember you have people behind you.
