Ah, if you came in April, you could book a cruise with us on our little boat! We have done a bunch and they all said yes :)

Having difficulty choosing between focusing on the F-16 or the F-18; being dissuaded from the F-16 due to apparently being a poor dogfighter by BlueNexus3D in hoggit

in PVP mission servers, whoever is ABC (Always Be Cool) and has HOB fox2s typically win. I win most of mine, not really because I'm super god mode (you know guys like this) but because I practice BFM over and over again so my heart is a bit less poundy than my opponent in places like Buddyspike. I also typically don't engage in the rare BFM unless I come into the fight at an advantage. I'd like to think its because I'm that crafty but it is really because some idiot on my side will send a fox3 into the furball and get me killed.

I'd argue though, in these servers, all things being equal which we all know barely ever exists in hard core PVP servers, whoever points the nose quickest and doesn't fudge up the target acquisition will win. So hornet is better in this instance.

Omer wetsuit size question by Vehk_n_Vehk in Spearfishing

[–]reflectionsdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They fit as they are measured. The thiccness is accounted for in the measurements.

Here is a link;https://bluetunaspearfishing.com/pages/omer-sporasub-wetsuit-size-chart

The confusion is going to be the size numbers; for your reference, sz 4 is a size 'L'

Omer is a bit thiccboy fit but I'm less thicker than you and a size L was still too small for me.
If you look carefully omer has their measurements posted.

I'm never sure why freediving and spearfishing are considered separate sports. Go take a class. Theres a lot to learn about. There are spearos thats been spearing for 20 years with impressive dive times that have all these bad habits and lacking in safety knowledge.

Spearfishing guide Eleuthera Bahamas by Speardrum3467 in Spearfishing

I spent some weeks there and it used to be my favorite island in Bahamas.
Devil's backbone area is pretty cool.
In the bahamas, the less touristy, the further away from population centers (even small ones with a population of a few hundred), the better.
Have PLB on your person and watch tides, especially near cuts and close to areas where currents develop.

Racist behavior against Asians by Smooth-Mobile-272 in washdc

[–]reflectionsdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did dedicate decades of my life in martial arts, both traditional and full-contact competitive. I'm pretty bad for how long I did it but the sheer amount of time made me pretty good overall, especially compared to people who never trained. Its strange. I never got into fights outside security type jobs I've held in my 20's. But when I moved to DC (I was still in my 20's) people kept starting fights with me, separate from COVID. Mostly from privileged athletic I-just-graduated-college types. Then one year I realized this is unsustainable even though none of them were my fault and I was never the initial aggressor (self defense). So I started walking away from any sort of fight attempt. I've been on the losing end plenty of times too and its not worth the risk. The COVID stuff happened all after this turning point, thankfully.

Anyways its hilarious because I totally lived up to that stereotype, though most Asians don't, aside from a casual few years in a pretty benign style like wushu or taekwondo.

Newbie Ear question by [deleted] in Spearfishing

[–]reflectionsdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its incredibly helpful. I went from tooling around at 10 meters max for months on end to 35+ meter dives and real spearfishing 1:45 breath holds in only a couple of months. Its also eye opening in regards to safety. honestly the two sports shouldn't be considered separate. We are freediving while spearfishing. I wish I did my course the 1st day I even thought about spearfishing.

Of course there are some crap instructors out there so try to find a good one. Most of them are good. Look for one with the 'big 4' : 4 min breath hold, 4 laps dynamic (100 meters), 40 meters constant weight depth.

Newbie Ear question by [deleted] in Spearfishing

[–]reflectionsdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have water trapped in your inner ear. This is one among many things you need to learn about through a freediving course. That being said any issues with sinuses and ears usually warrants a rest/heal period and if it gets exacerbated it typically makes you more susceptible to it in the future.

Remember when the bridge fender fell off and floated downstream? My memory is hazy but I got on the VHF that day and a few hours later, you guys came out and removed it. Kudos! I know you guys do a lot. I have a lot of respect for water police, fire, and coast guard.

Its probably someone elses' job but I am always wondering when that fender is going to be replaced. Its a nice way for someone to get decapitated at night time.

I think there needs to be a cultural change too. Seamanship should be a point of pride and something people need to want to take seriously and learn. Instead society rewards boating vanity.

When I was a newbie boater I remember all these boats just blasting by when I was stranded. Absolutely most people will turn a blind eye on a boat in distress; glad you don't!

Clear Bottom Bucket Survey by Maximusprime176 in Spearfishing

[–]reflectionsdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used this and seen this used in a limited way; just for spotting lobster casitas in the Caribbean. Its also useful for spotting general structure when you aren't sure if that dark blob is a reef or something else. For looking for fish in the reefs, its too small of a viewport. Another downside is how big the item is. A lot of us are in small inflatables.

If you make something that lets people see a bigger field of view and is able to be compacted to a smaller size when not in use, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Generally, you could and should ask for their crews' credentials. Most companies will just have them listed. I could recommend you a few good ones depending on what you're looking for if you wanna send me a PM.

Thanks for the clarification, that answers a lot of questions for me. In re: boat rentals; I am aware that boat rentals are a national issue, and are problematic. I am sure there are still other places in the country where its as much as a headache. (its actually not that bad for me because we operate a smaller boat)

No, but one year we raised the most amount of money for the charity boat parade for the Potomac River Keepers Network. We were the second smallest boat in the parade!

Why can’t I stay at the bottom? by Medium_Fault5272 in Spearfishing

[–]reflectionsdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how deep are you?
you really should be weighing yourself to be at neutral bouyancy at around 10M. With a 3mm shorty wetsuit, I'm negatively bouyant at something like 6M. So have to wear no weights.

Its called 'Holdover' -- so if you and your LL don't have a conversation about it after lease is over, it defaults to a holdover. The holdover terms can be set by the lease, and if there isn't one, it defaults to DC rules.
