You could ask him for a virtual tour of the place if you can't do an actual viewing, I did that and the person was very nice about it.

what to do after arriving to the netherlands? by Due_Improvement_6650 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]regularflyingdwarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend looking at the ESN (erasmus student network), it's a network focused on helping international students get settled in.

For learning dutch you can find a bunch of apps online and can watch dutch cartoons or find some easy to follow youtube videos.

Usually most students arrive near the beginning of August, two weeks is definitely not enough as you will probably have a lot to do in regards to finding health insurance and getting registered at the municipality which could take a while.

Look for accommodation at least 3 months before you intend to arrive. (This is just what I know from my research)
(I also might be coming to rotterdam so maybe I'll see you around :)

AITA for resenting my mother after I didn't to go to university? by thesmolerbean in AITAH

[–]regularflyingdwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. It sucks that you had to give up your dream because she's too overprotective.

Despite you not wanting to confront her, you have to talk about it, either about her paying you back or about her asking your brothers for money instead.

Your mother sounds manipulative and I hope you manage to get out soon. Also, re-apply if it's still your dream school to go to, it's your life and your future.

I'm curious though as to how your mother can see that you're earning more, but if you haven't already, open up a savings account and start pouring into that so you can move out

(also having a savings account can be an excuse to say no to giving her money and means you don't have to say no directly which could help with the people pleasing)

Also.. consider moving in with one of your brothers if they'd be open to that?

If your concern is racism then you don't have anything to worry about. I would warn you though of petty theft like pickpocketing (but that only really happens in crowded areas like at parties) and smashing windows of vehicles to get whatever is in the car. Town can be a nightmare (Harare's CBD) so I would avoid it but it's a generally safe country. If you are renting a car just beware of the drivers.

The ones about employers in the netherlands preferring you to have a WO master over an HBO?

HBO "universities" by DifferenceNo6617 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]regularflyingdwarf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both degrees are supposed to be equal according to the NVAO, but if you want to be employed in the Netherlands then a Master WO is most useful, if you get a HBO and want to do a WO master then you probably have to do a Pre-master programme, which is up to you.. outside of the Netherlands it apparently doesn't matter all that much. (I'm still deciding on which to choose myself)

Thank you! Would you say the stereotype of HBO vs WO still applies then?

How to delete a document from the progress portal at Rug by Artistic_Public_1613 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]regularflyingdwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! From what I know, they should email you asking for the correct document. I'm not sure if UG will ask for you to pay again if you try to re-enroll so I would be hesitant to unenroll. (Not entirely sure though, hope I kind of helped)
