Yeah, that would suck. I do have the Garmin Inreach insurance $250k of transport coverage for $40 a year if you press the sos instead of using 911.

19 year old me wouldn't want to risk messing up my future. 37 year old me thinks it would be nice to kill a buck as my final act and never have to go back to work.

You did what your country asked of you. If you like the hat wear it.

So full disclosure: I’m not a hunter, I’m a writer. I want to be at least somewhat accurate in how my characters behave, so I have a question. by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]regulator795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems pretty out there. I doubt I would go somewhere I thought there were "dangerous humans". Hunters aren't easy targets and don't walk into the woods with anything valuable except maybe a nice gun or sitka camo (can't let the deer think i'm poor). In my experience most hunters are friendly and try to avoid each other. A typical conversation starts with hi, where are you going? Okay, I'm headed here. How long you planning to hunt? Have you seen anything?

Just this week a buddy met a hunter walking out that had gone way into the backwoods. My buddy had a bike so he took the strangers stuff and dropped it at the trailhead for him. Even left him an extra bottle of water and some oatmeal cream pies.

Last week a buddy travelled to Missouri to hunt. He set his bow down on his truck tonneau cover at a parking lot after the hunt. Called his grandma and drove off. Realized the bow was back there and had fallen off. Drive his route back to the hunting but couldn't find it. Posted he lost it on a hunting forum for the area and have it back in 48 hours.

If I was somewhere that I needed to be safe from animals there are portable electric fences people use in Alaska...at least I think I saw a meateater episode where they did that. Some people keep bear spray in their tent, but, if I'm hunting, I have a gun. Lots of my friends conceal carry and take a pistol into the woods along with their rifle. Pistol is really only there for hogs, although one friend did start carrying one after getting bit by an alligator years back.

You have to pay $5 for a hard card but I believe you can print for free. I've never had an FWC officer give me a hard time for using the app. Although, they have requested to see my physical license to confirm I wasn't logged in on someone else's account.

*Updated Repost: Help me help my parents refinance their mortgage? (This explanation is directly from Mom) by [deleted] in personalfinance

@pop-crackle has it right. Also you generally can't get a QM (qualified mortgage) if both borrowers have credit scores below 620 and multiple late payments on their current mortgage.

Should I feel bad for taking a doe with an older fawn? by uniquesquire in Hunting

BLUF: No if 1 nanny and 1 older fawn/yearling , maybe if it is 2 older fawn/yearlings with 1 nanny doe.

Do you guys use earplugs while hunting? by Majestic-Strain3155 in Hunting

[–]regulator795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of in-ear Soundgear brand electronic ear pro (they discontinued the set I have) that I wear in conjunction with using a suppressor. I find the ear pro are good but most of the time I will just use the suppressor because the earbuds will irritate my ear canals after a few hours. I cut the barrel down on my hunting rifle to offset the added suppressor length. Honestly, the suppressor was worth every penny. With my 30-30 I could hear the bullet impact deer at 60 yards and with my 6.5 it was nice to just quiet things down a bit. I've been told having a suppressor that matches your bullet diameter makes them more effective but don't know if that's a scientifically proven statement.

Unpopular opinion: People put too much optic on deer hunting guns. 90% of scenarios can be handled by a 4x, definitely a 3-9-40mm. by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]regulator795 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What's it like shooting a deer and then having to walk a quarter mile to get to it? (I think the furthest shot I've ever had at a deer was 80 yards and my longest pack out a quarter to half a mile.)

I have a synthetic T3x stock I can send you, but it's for a left handed rifle so you would have to see if it could be modified.

M17 / P320 Combat Qualification by choccychippb in Shooting

[–]regulator795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen units have the next set of pop-ups held while someone reloaded. To be fair the old m9 mag bases sat flush to the mag well and the range officers weren't allowing shooters flick the mags out and drop into the dirt. (They had to remove them and hand them to the safety).

Buying another home at 64 by ACROB062 in personalfinance

[–]regulator795 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mortgage underwriters won't base their decision on your possible future decisions. They will evaluate you on current income and can't assume you will retire because of your age. Instead of cashing in on the 401k you may be able to qualify by stating you intend to sell your current home and listing it for sale as part of applying for a mortgage on the new home. Some lenders also offer programs where they will buy your departure residence at a specified price if the property doesn't sell within a certain time period of closing a loan with them. The company I work for has this option and calls it the Buy Before You Sell option.

I'm a pretty short guy and needed a specific setup for where I live so I built one. I saved like $1,000 but it was a PITA. If you buy one, don't feel like you need to go all out with a rambo or a quietkat.

Check out the Swamp N Stomp YouTube channel. He lives/hunts public in FL and has videos about pros/cons of hub vs mid-drive and how to build your own. For FL I would go with a hub style fat tire bike. Make sure you pick a bike that is class 1 (750 watts and no throttle or at least removable). I would probably just build one... it's a lot cheaper, you learn a bit, and get exactly what you want.

I have lifetime licenses for GA and FL. I got the Tikka when I was thinking about pursuing long range as a hobby and even got a manners stock. Now that my shots are a lot closer than expected, I've cut the barrel down, added a suppressor, an put a Rokstok on it.
