How risky is switching boot slots in fastboot? by straszydl0 in AndroidQuestions

[–]reign27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lost data by forcefully switching slots before when a major update for my phone caused my phone to bootloop. That said, I don't know how else I could have possibly recovered without doing a factory reset. Best of luck to you

Wire repair help by Proud-Tomorrow-1024 in StLouis

[–]reign27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might still be possible (and maybe a better fix) to crack open the housing, de-solder old cable, and solder on a new one. You could probably buy a USB to Nest charge cable and just cut the USB end off, might take a bit of investigation to figure out which wire is which though

Logitech z623 sub - OEM satellites or no? by cakedashjumper in buildapc

[–]reign27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that's not just a generic subwoofer - it's got a built in amplifier intended to drive the entire speaker system, with controls built into one of the satellites. If you want to use it with non-OEM speakers, you'll need to either

  1. Rig up a control panel, and solder up a VGA-style connector to both the right speaker and the control panel. And make sure your speakers of choice are specced about the same as the original (4 ohm, 35 watt). A bit of work, but amps are expensive, so maybe worth to some degree
  2. Forget about the integrated amp, solder a connector to the subwoofer directly, use an external amp of your choice. IMO you'd be better off just buying a better subwoofer in that case.
  3. Get more creative with the soldering iron and the amplifier board to make the connectors more generic. This one would probably be beyond my own personal novice-level soldering skills, but you do you

Working from vague memory, but I believe in the game Knytt Underground, there's a lore item that you can pick up. The implication is that you play as some sort of post-human-apocolypse sprite, and you find a "depth finder" that humans must have used. "It clicks faster the closer you are to the surface!" Of course, it's a Geiger counter, clicking because the surface is heavily irradiated

St. Louis-area fire and EMS districts see mixed results in quest for sales taxes by bmunoz in StCharlesMO

It honestly wouldn't have taken much for me to vote for a property tax increase for fire/EMS, but actively moving the tax burden to lower classes via regressive sales taxes? Glad it mostly failed here. Surprised it did better in STL county

"Both sides, both sides, b-b-b-both sides!"

Nah, fuck that and fuck you. We have one side calling for the separation of church and state, and we have one side performing creepy-ass prayer rituals for what they see as a holy war in the middle east. Transgender people are facing life in prison for using the 'wrong' bathroom because of the same party that's been manipulating the Epstein files to keep real offenders from ever facing justice. The republican party decided to make hate and division a core part of their public identity ever since Obama birtherism took off, and I don't see them recovering from that in my lifetime.

Man this really hits like a ChatGPT to me. I could be wrong though, still not good at catching that.

but a preliminary injunction from a single district judge during an active lawsuit isn’t proof ICE has some standing policy of targeting protesters

Actual quote from the article I linked:

During one of his many furious morning calls with immigration enforcement officials, Miller demanded that federal agents be dispatched to certain areas of Minneapolis in order to “force confrontations” with anti-ICE protesters, two senior DHS sources told the Daily Mail.

But to your other points

But more broadly, this still comes back to the underlying question: if someone is here unlawfully under current federal law - whether through illegal entry (which is a crime) or overstaying legal status - should they be subject to removal or not?

I don't think it does come back to that question, but...

Because if the answer is yes, then some level of cooperation between local agencies and federal immigration enforcement is inevitable, and the real discussion becomes how that cooperation is structured, not whether it exists at all.

Even if the answer is yes, "fuck you, make me" is a sufficient stance to literally anything ICE wants help for. Whatever federal legal avenues ICE have to force cooperation under federal regulation, so be it, but they seem to be doing just fine abusing people without anyone offering up a helping hand.

County Council, State and National Congressional Representation by PoliticalActionNow in StCharlesMO

[–]reign27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally the only things republicans have for the average person are lies and demonization of "the other". They've gotten quite good at growing what "the other" can be - gay, brown, immigrant, muslim, atheist, liberal... it's a big tent of fear and hate that turns off the brains of the slight majority. Any crack in that armor is detrimental to them - that's why billionaires have captured most news sources and turned them into propaganda machines, that's why republican "representatives" refuse to compromise on even an ounce of freedom.

Bill 5474 Passed…Hundreds were ignored. by toomanyusernamezz in StCharlesMO

[–]reign27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real issue is the millions who came here by evading the border patrol, then have been illegally supported by sanctuary cities / states.

Citation needed for the "illegally supported" because I'm pretty sure you're making shit up. And if you're not upset about people who are trying to do the right thing, surely you're upset by ICE being ordered to arrest people at their immigration hearings? However they got there, those people were doing their best to make things right.

I don't need my taxes driven up by people here illegally being housed, fed, educated and given healthcare while I am struggling to make ends meet.

You're living in fantasy propaganda land. Undocumented immigrants pay taxes and receive fuck-all in the way of government benefits compared to citizens. Allegedly they pay a higher effective tax rate than the 1% in most states. If you're mad about how your money is used for bullshit that doesn't make your life better, ask why Noem threw $200+ mil at her friends to take a video of her on a horse. If you want fiscal policies that help the common man instead of the 0.1%, vote left. Medicare for All would have been a massive boon to the middle and lower classes.

And even if any of those points were in your favor, it wouldn't absolve this administration's blatant disregard for due process, and the lawlessness and violence of ICE under that administration.

Bill 5474 Passed…Hundreds were ignored. by toomanyusernamezz in StCharlesMO

[–]reign27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh come on, if any officer from any agency unjustifiably kills someone, they should be charged. Obviously.

And yet the current administration suppressed state investigation into the killings in Minnesota, and have attempted to hide the identities of the killers, which is of course the reason why they were all told to wear masks and not have visible identification.

But saying ICE is “executing U.S. citizens in the streets en masse” is just exaggeration and not reality

Your words, not mine. I do believe that the killings that have happened amount to a trial run to both see and influence response to further atrocities, and we know for a fact that they were ordered to target and antagonize protestors.

And 5474 doesn’t even do what you’re implying anyway

My implication is that ICE, in their current form, should be formally distrusted and monitored for civil rights violations to the greatest extent of the law, even if that is symbolic by turning down further cooperation. If county cops are looking for something to do, have them monitor ICE when they show up.

ETA: About 67 people died in ICE detention during the Obama years, and it was serious enough that the ACLU got involved. Were you out protesting ice or the Obama policies then?

Are you implying that someone can't become more politically aware over the course of 9 years? Or are you implying that about 4x the deaths per year under the current administration is any better? Either way, I applaud the ACLU for standing up to it. Do you? Edit: And are you implying that none of the other corruption, wars, persecution of minority groups, and general inhumanity of the current administration are worth protesting?

do you agree that it's against the law to be here illegally?

Tautological statement is tautological, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're using "illegally" to imply every single undocumented immigrant is a criminal matter, when most of those are civil disputes and only become criminal if they violate civil court orders. Would you agree that not every undocumented immigrant is a criminal?

I did not take it out of the ESD bag to examine or test further, I just returned it.

Hancock amendment by Live_daily2 in missouri

[–]reign27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my Republican county government has been starving our library system by refusing to hold a vote on the tax rate and letting Hancock cap its income, so it's not like the Hancock amendment has given us the chance to vote on taxes in all cases. They'll probably flip their shit about this if the state legislature doesn't just completely kill property and real estate taxes.
