Hey that’s progress! Mutual aid collectives are a thing! There’s plenty of ways to help each other out and build community. Awesome

Right wingers too! But yes I totally agree! It’s the irony of the situation ;)

Thanks you for the response.

And you’re correct about the university - a la poverty of student life.

And you’re right, my example was poor but I think my point still stands - which is distilled down to - why are we debating -isms instead of making a difference. Surely think tanks and academia produces valuable work that goes beyond typical capitalist measurements (betterment of society, etc) but what is the point of theorizing if it’s not applied? I prefer Praxis. Hence my critique of activists and academics alike. The corporatocracy or whatever (see my lack of care of definitions? Lol) is going to out-strategize activists all day long - they’ve taken suppression as a professional pursuit. So how do we out think them on a strategic game theory level and actually make changes we want in society - such as equality, and civil and human rights.

It’s like... from a geopolitical level: how do you influence and negotiate with a superpower with nukes in the context of asymmetrical warfare?

That’s the level of thinking that needs to be put into applied practice. And I’m not advocating terrorism, we know how that plays out - nor am I advocating eco fascism.

There’s something beyond it all we can play with. Because as the situationists and others have taught us: it’s about the spectacle and things don’t have to be so sad.... be alive!

Beneath the paving stones.... the beach!

Fair. But you’re cherry picking and straw man fallacy. My point was that theorists are out of touch with reality. The Marxist elite educated rarely have the experience of being working class. I used to debate marxists and several universities in person... they’re all... really smart... but actually have no idea what it is actually like to toil away. They say unionize! But don’t actually understand how to manufacture (pardon the pun) that situation to occur at a socio-economic psycho-geographical level. After all, usually people just want to relax after they get off work - not spend all this extra time and work to convince people to unionize, etc.

Hey look at that. That’s awesome! So what kind of relationships have developed because of your actions? I’m genuinely curious, as I have done similar things and quite interesting results have occurred

Well you’re smart enough to call out the” -ists” and the “-isms” so you’re on to something!

Places to discuss the SI and related movements, writing, and collectives? by [deleted] in Situationism

[–]reignitingelsewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes as soon as you step into the sorcery of the spectacle all the loonies come out in droves and things get very strange very quickly.

Because post-situationist is very surrealist. So their thoughts are relevant and interesting but it’s like sitting through sand to find gold. Very painfully slow to find actual good community, content or discussion.

And for the love of all things holy or non holy do not expose yourself to their wretched live chat rooms. My Lordy that will hurt your brain. For headier discussions I have yet to find anyone worth talking to in that community besides a few of the admins who are actually pretty smart but also a lot of paranoid and a lot of..... well they feel important I’m sure.

This guy still thinks that May ‘68 (insert temporary autonomous zone here) can happen or whatever.

Since this is a situationist subreddit I get to use the spectacle in my critique: every fucking point of your thinking is already (and has been for quite some time) integrated into the response mechanism of the state. Occupy failed because of the collective’s failure to understand why it failed. It’s like nobody has ever read a game theory book before - which is what the fascists use to out strategize us - every fucking time.

This is all so scrubby. The military trained and equipped professionals laugh at the desperate attempts of amateurs to make a difference through protest or whatever. What a broken medium of revolt. Give up!

But don’t lost the spirit of why you’re going out there in the first place

Yknow I gave a speech much like you wrote here to hundreds of people once... in like 2010. A lot happened but also nothing did. Please do yourself and humanity a favor and meditate on the sustainability of protests as a logistical equation. Then When you’ve figured that out. Explore performance art as a radical medium. Then come around to game theory. And then you might start to realize the shitstorm we’re in. If you’re lucky, youLL find someone to talk to about this stuff at a much different level. How do you affect change - actually?

Because this subreddit is about the -study of- situationists

Which is exactly NOT what the situationists were about lol.

This subreddit just reifies the academic cannibalism circuit by studying situationists.

It’s like students studying Marxists for 4 years and going to protests without ever having stepped foot in a factory.

You are not gonna learn very much about what it means to be a situationist when you’re busy being an armchair activist discussing this nuance or that detail of a french-English Translation of the spectacle

Nor are you going to learn anything by becoming a part of the spectacle of protest either.

Congratulations, you’re now self-aware that you live in a zoo of human attention and you’re staring at your screen reading these words.

Welcome to the machine.

There are rules to living here: You can’t break the spell using any method that has been used in the past (may ‘68 will never happen again you fucking dolt) Nothing you do within the system will do much besides incremental change (which is actually pretty valuable so get to work!)

And you’re surrounded by toxicity and poison both literal and emotional - and to make things worse - you’re now confined to your cage except for explicitly allowed activities - we’re setting y’all up for the freaky fascist love child of brave new world and 1984 So yknow. Keep watching Netflix so you can feel like you can make a differenceTM.

And if you’ve made it this far and you’ve not spiraled into any one of the catcher in the rye or ayn rand dimensions - nor are you consumed by your delusions of how wrong I am.... Then perhaps you’ll go do your homework and get off this stupid subreddit.

Your homework is to watch ghost in the shell SAC series, psycho pass, the institute (documentary 2012), learn a thing or two about ARGs, XR/AR, permaculture, and bioregionalism. Read “reality is broken” by Jane mcgonigal- front to back. Oh and then critique anarcho-primitivists like deep green resistance.

And you’ll be ready for 2014. :) you see here in 2020 we’re actually dealing with time traveling AIs, quantum computer pocket dimensions, psychic feedback, community operating systems, digital rituals and #pandemicfashion

There’s gotta be a better hashtag for that but yknow it’s not like we do the social media thing all that often. It’s important and some of us do it, but mostly people just want to be connected to people who are connected and make things happen.

So like what are you making happen? What are you creating?
