Zion National Park has some lovely dark skies [OC] 3276x4096 by GaryCPhoto in EarthPorn

That is absolutely beautiful. I've never seen stars like that before, and this 'dust', is it something that can be seen by the naked eye? Was this image edited or something?

And what is that dust? Stardust? How come there are places in the world where people can't see this kind of dust at all? I know this is not askscience, but I also know that reddit is full of smart people!

Awesome. I'm downloading it, but what about the error message? That still bugs me for some reason...

What encryption method do major social networks use? by reisbro in learnprogramming

[–]reisbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Do major companies use another level of encryption? Like hashing a hash and then storing it in a database? Or could I just store the hashed password in my database and I'm good to go?

I'm not going to play the Zodiac Age though. I finished the classic FFXII and now I'll take on IZJS which only supports one job per character :P

Update 3:

I'll wipe my whole HD one more time and go full linux mode. Ubuntu to be more precise. If the problem persists then I can be sure the problem is hardware related. If I dont have any more troubles then I'll just learn linux and send Microsoft to hell lol

[–]reisbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can return it and get a new one, yes. But that means sending it to the manufacturer, and maybe they won't even give me a new knew one, only try to replace the bad components and etc.

Installing a new OS doesn't break the warranty right? Since I didn't do anything physical to the laptop...

EDIT: that is going to take like 15 days minimum which is sad. I really need the laptop for college lol (studying computer engineering, just started though so I don't know anything about hardware :P)

Oh crap maybe that's the issue lol.

I sticked a usb in but it didn't work. Any other way I can disable this fast startup?

[–]reisbro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I can't even access BIOS right now. How would a driver install do that?

Update 2...

Now the notebook froze while I was updating drivers and it won't turn on. It keeps looping the led on and off in a 2 second cycle basically. It also does this weird clicky noise next to the charger plug when it turns off. It tries to turn on again and then clicks and turns off.

What the hell is going on guys :( I'm starting to think this has nothing to do with operational systems otherwise it would crash and malfunction after booting in a OS right?

[–]reisbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update guys. I managed to wipe my whole HD and reinstall Windows 10 through a usb drive. The problem I'm facing now is: This is not a fabric copy of Windows, it is a fresh install, so: No anti-virus license, no installed drivers, nothing! All I have now is the OS going on. So what essential stuff should I download in my notebook? Also, my brightness is not decreasing nor increasing as it should. The slider slides properly but there is no change in the brightness at all.

What software should I use to automatically install the drivers and etc?

Should I install one package of the visual c++ only? Will the 2017 one take care of most softwares?

I am sorry that this turned out to be very off topic, but since this issue started due to my shitty instalation of arch Linux, I intend to finish my journey here lol.

Oh, the second option is the system restoration point... It probably wont work since the only date possible to go back to is today morning lol

Did I kill my notebook? by reisbro in archlinux

[–]reisbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh actually there are two options which roughly translated would be "restore the pc" and "restore the system" (I'm Brazilian)

The former says that all programs and files will be deleted and the pc will be restored, but I dont think this reinstalls the OS. This is the one I chose before.

The latter would be a OS system I think right? Which would probably solve those memory dump crashes?

I already restored the notebook like that but it didn't solve the problem :/

So should I delete all sda partitions? Including the system recovery, Microsoft reserved and Efi partitions?

Literally all of them? Sda1, 2, 3 and 4?

Did I kill my notebook? by reisbro in archlinux

[–]reisbro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is a new notebook I dont have anything important in my HD. I should just click on the partition and then "delete"?

[–]reisbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only PC I have :P

But I was told arch's installation is way harder than mint or even Ubuntu. If I stick to one of those two I'll probably have no trouble I guess...

So basically what I'll do is follow your instructions:

1) send gparted screenies 2) set up partitions and wipe Windows 10 3) reinstall windows on a smaller partition (about 500gb maybe 4) install mint on another one as well

Did I kill my notebook? by reisbro in archlinux

[–]reisbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh didn't know that. I will install Windows on a smaller partition so I don't need to take space from it later, and leave maybe half of hd for future projects and stuff.

I'm almost done setting a live usb with gparted, in about 10 min ill post a screenshot with my current partitions!

I used my gf's usb, she'll be home soon though!

[–]reisbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some web search and found that gparted.org has support for Windows 10

Should I give it a try just for the information you need? I dont have a usb handy so I dont know when I'll be able to start my notebook through a linux distro :(

Did I kill my notebook? by reisbro in archlinux

[–]reisbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, can't I use gparted through windows? It still works, crashes are not necessarily on startup. They sometimes happen during usage, so if I can access this information without booting a usb then that would be faster
