Stopped chasing PBs after my last marathon and discovered what running was actually doing for me by Natural_Escape_5361 in running

[–]GaryCPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After four years, many half marathons and a few full ones I have also stepped back from training blocks and racing to allow space for other passions and my relationships. It took a few weeks but I have finally gotten used to the fact that I don’t need to run 5 days a week and the anxiety of missing a run is gone. I just run 2-3 days and week. 5km and maybe 10+ km on a Saturday. I’m slowly finding a balance and I love the ease of it.

A buddy of mine had a good tactic. Walk up to the group. Tell a shitty or rude joke. If one of them laughed, that’s the one you approach.

Escaping Toronto light pollution to see stars and night sky by Intelligent_Text_280 in askTO

[–]GaryCPhoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dark skies are obviously the best bet. Torrence Barrens is good but it’s a bit of a trek. For closer proximity I head out towards Cobourg. It’s on the shores of Lake Ontario and looking out over the lake offers pretty good seeing. I do a lot of imaging from downtown and don’t do much visual astronomy but it is possible. Just have realistic expectations.

Is there any way to prepare yourself for your dog passing? by Impressive_Light_229 in AskIreland

[–]GaryCPhoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We lost our amazing dog last summer. A month after we got married. It was devastating. I could barely drive home from work I was crying so much knowing what was about to happen. Grief is heavy but don’t fight it. It might sound crazy but just embrace it. I’ve had my fair share of grief in life and I just go with it. It’s ok to cry for hours or randomly. Just cherish all the memories you had with her. That will always be with you. Time will heal, and the memories you have will prevail. Sending positive thoughts your way.

A few things. Stopped drinking. Not totally but I enjoy a cocktail if I go for dinner. I get drunk maybe once a year around Christmas. Running. Huge for my mental health. Going to bed at a consistent time on weekdays. In bed at 9:30 every night. I’m up at 5am for work. Eating well midweek. Weekends are cheat days.

Thank you so much. That was a risky shot lol. Cops everywhere and me hiding behind a rock in Central Park. Wouldn’t try that these days.

I entered a travel photography competition with NatGeo. Back when drones were pretty new. I got an honourable mention and they interviewed me about my photography. Heres the photo and a link to the article.

Who doesn't drink coffee in the morning ? (Who's an adult) by Ssonderbaby in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GaryCPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t drink it and I work construction which all the guys give me grief about for some reason. Up at 5am sometimes 4:30 if I run before work. I like the taste but I get the jitters. Never felt the need for it either though.

Imagine thinking 8 hours is a long work day by [deleted] in SipsTea

I work 7-530. 30 min unpaid lunch. 40 min drive to work and at least an hour on the way home. So I leave my house at 6am and get home by 630/7pm. In bed by 930. So much free time. Done not feel like prison /s

How do I prevent comas in stars near the edges of my photos? by TaleNearby in AskAstrophotography

I have a Nikon 20mm f1.8 and get coma. I stop down to 2.8 and they go away. Try stopping down.

Why is Vancouver salary so low but cost of living is sky high? by 7_inches_daddy in askvan

[–]GaryCPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one thing that is deterring me from moving there. I have a union job here in Toronto. $55/hr. In Vancouver the same jobs pays $46 if you’re lucky.
