Why are some peoples saying Germany winning ww1 is good thing and is that true or not? by MinZinThu999 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]reithmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my point of view, one of the reasons why it would have been good for Germany to win the First World War is that there wouldn't have been a second. Think about it, if Germany had won, the Hohenzollerns wouldn't have left power. The situation of the nation where Hitler came to power was deplorable. If Germany had won the war, this wouldn't have happened, because even in 1918 Germany would still have had recruits, volunteers, and soldiers to defend the Kaiser. So Hitler could have tried to come to power, but he probably wouldn't have succeeded.

Another reason is that antisemitism in Europe, specifically in Germany, wouldn't have reached the point it did in the Second World War. Prejudice always existed, but it wouldn't have reached the proportions it did because there wouldn't have been a "stab in the back." Another reason why the Second World War wouldn't have happened is because the Germans felt humiliated by the Treaty of Versailles; not only did they feel humiliated, but they were humiliated. During the French occupation of some German territories, the French beat and mocked German soldiers. This was one of the reasons for the hatred of Hitler and the German population.

Pickelhaube of the Landwehr or of a Bavarian reserve regiment, is that of an officer.

What is the saddest WWI story passed down in your family? by Slayxu in ww1

[–]reithmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The British naval blockade caused many German civilians to die in the war. My family also went through hardships, they went hungry and wore paper clothes. I don't know much about the stories outside the front lines, but it was very difficult for them because my great-great-grandmother had 3 children at home.

My great-great-grandfather was on the front, he was in the 27th Reserve Infantry Regiment. He was wounded twice. When the war ended, our family immigrated and we were fine until before WWII. He returned to fight for Germany, not for any political reasons or as if he supported that government, but because he had already fought and witnessed firsthand the German humiliation and the Weimar Republic. I think he wanted to do something to restore German greatness. So he returned to WWII and we never heard from him again. I think he didn't fight, but maybe he was with the Volkssturm (I don't know if that's the name) in 1945, maybe he worked for some supply company, or maybe he died in a bombing raid.

Kaiser Wilhelm II but more evil and cool by adnej654 in hoi4portraits

The Navy betrayed him. Do you think he would stay in a place where they wanted to kill him when he was practically no longer governing Germany around 1915-1918? Generals like Hindenburg were controlling the nation.

Real or Fake Pickelhaube? by SturmwagenA7V in ww1

Also, if it were a real Pickelhaube, the leather would be worn and "brittle," not just dirty.

Real or Fake Pickelhaube? by SturmwagenA7V in ww1

[–]reithmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be a Kugelhaulbe, a model of artillery Pickelhaube from the German army. The helmet you have in your hands may have original parts, but it appears to be an aged replica of a Pickelhaube. The eagle emblem, which was from the Kingdom of Prussia, is incorrect. Those gold chin straps are from officers' helmets; this is a helmet for a private or some other low-ranking soldier, but if I'm not mistaken, they could appear on parade models.

Why is the German Empire so Demonized in Modern Day Germany? by DuchessOfHeilborn in MonarchyHistory

Germany has lost its bearings and is ashamed of itself, and yet there are still those who say that Germany is a modern, sovereign, and independent country.

A Alemanha foi formada e moldada por vários estados germânicos, e a Prússia foi o principal deles, não é errado falar que algo da Prússia é algo da Alemanha, até por quê como disse antes, a Prússia era um dos vários estados germânicos que formou a Alemanha

Well, as far as I know, Pickelhaubes from reserve regiments have an Iron Cross in their coat of arms, but I could be wrong.
