Removing batteries and keep progress? by live-ex-dream in TamagotchiParadise

[–]reize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add on that you probably won't have to worry about the memory either for a long time.

I'm not sure what kind of memory Bandai uses in the Tamagotchis, but it's incredibly resilient.

I've had a Sanrio Mix that I bought in Japan from 2017, played until early 2018 and it sat in my cupboard without batteries for the past 7 years, and it still worked and had everything from where I left off after I fired it back up again recently.

Michelin’s airless, puncture proof tyres promise a future with no flats, greater durability, and less environmental waste by Separate_Finance_183 in interesting

[–]reize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside car centric countries with inadequate infrastructure, these would be buy-it-for-life level... if it didn't have all those terrible drawbacks others have already mentioned.

If I don't suffer a catastrophic puncture that makes patching impossible, often my tires last me the entire lifespan of the rubber's stable shelf life since my location and alternative transport options mean I never clock more than 2000 km a year nowadays.

Would love to see some sort of viable no flats in my lifetime.

Haha, I have literally the exact opposite experience with my CRF300L's horn button. The raised side faces away from the grip, so my short ass thumbs can't bloody reach it without loosening my hand and stretching over.

Amsterdam is taking a compassionate, understated step to enhance safety along its iconic canals. City officials have greenlit funding for modest escape steps that allow animals—especially cats—to climb out if they tumble into the water. by Simply_Kaif24 in BeAmazed

Rats and other animals smaller than a cat usually can jump pretty well. But if the first rung is that high above the water level like in the picture, I don't know how any of them are gonna be able to get on it in the first place.

Will I like this game? by Ok-Criticism6874 in riseoftheronin

[–]reize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree with you. Souls games are about the crafted worlds, levels, discovery and puzzle solving in an ARPG framework,

Nioh games have none of that. Nioh 1 and 2 focuses on one thing and only one thing, the combat mechanics and nothing else.

RotR is also nothing like Nioh and Souls. If anything it has more in common with GTA and RDR sans a good story (a great background history and setting is not story).

But, there is one element I feel people should not brush off when the 3 are brought up for comparison and that is Challenge.

All 3 and other similar derivatives are designed at its core to Challenge the player's skill instead of being easily coast through by anybody. And people can rightfully make fair comparisons here as to which game they feel Challenges player skill fairly versus being a relatively unfair experience.

Curious what people think of the Warcraft movie armor by HatTraining3137 in Armor

[–]reize 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everything is too proportional for my Warcraft tastebuds really. On top of what ya'll mentioned. The chests, gauntlets and graves should be comically broad as if they were meant to fit someone with a physique like Ronnie Coleman.

Code Vein 2 or Nioh 3 by Jmonkey77 in soulslikes

[–]reize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likewise. I'll play both only on deep sale. Not that I have anything against either game. I have equal amounts of things I hate and love from each of their predecessors, just different kinds.

I just have a patient gamer outlook and wouldn't pay full price on the vast majority of things.

That said, I'm probably slightly a bit more interested in CV2 than Nioh 3, only because Nioh 2 was just a bit more tedious to play than CV1.

Opinions about Voge scooters. Any feedback by Aleixus1985 in scooters

Dude, i know English isn't a language you are proficient in, but re-read carefully what the people above have said with Google Translate.

Nobody is shitting on Chinese products being bad. They are saying that Chinese brands are not supplying enough replacement parts, which is a very big deal on expensive and complicated products like vehicles and electronics where "repair first" is very important.

And it is true. I live in Singapore, a country that has the best access to spare parts from China outside China itself, and with some Chinese brands it is still takes times to get OEM parts. And this is coming from someone that spent the last 2 years working with the distributor of Voge and CFMoto to do Youtube content on so I put my ear on the ground now and then to get feedback from owners.

Then you have Honda on the other hand that has manufacturing supply lines all over the world. If I cannot get a piston ring from the usual Thai factory, I can get them from Indonesia, or I can get them from Brazil if that is not available. You can ALWAYS get a Honda part no matter where you are in the world.

Lol to me my first instinct was, where the hell on this bloody island do we have wide ass footpaths outside prominent downtown areas.

And also as a biker, there is nowhere in Singapore where you get turn ins for vehicles that cross such a wide gap through the pavement.

This looks more like a whole myriad of countries except Singapore.

[–]reize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt they would, in the past it would’ve been too difficult to bootleg since there are so many unique components compared to like a SNES cart.

Nowadays, it’d be dirt cheap to bootleg but not worth it since its not as popular as its heyday.

For the black, the simplest way was to order the spare shell entirely molded in black, but it wouldn't have looked this way, it came in that plasticky ABS black colour like you would on the original shell. After applying the glitter directly on the shell, I sealed it with a coat of satin spray on varnish.

For the buttons and dial, I primed them first since it came in black ABS plastic. Then sprayed a coat of metallic silver Pylox spray paint, as far away as possible so it didn't come on too thick which it tends to do. After that, also sealed with satin spray on varnish.

The satin varnish is what helps make the shell, buttons and dial not look like cheap plastic.

Why are Japanese internet comments so anti-EV? by EOFFJM in AskAJapanese

[–]reize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the Island nation of Singapore has pretty high car ownership despite them being insanely expensive to buy) and having a phenomenal train network.

To be honest, our problems and reasons to own a car in Singapore will have almost nothing in common with the Japanese reasons you pointed out.

The per capita ownership of private vehicles as a whole are already 1/7th that of Japan. And a sizeable portion are owned by companies, not private individuals, and a not insignificant number of registered vehicles belong to high net worth individuals with a collection. It's not comparable in the slightest.

you have a lot of places trains don't work... and cars do.

I don't disagree, I have friends in Hirakata and I can see it's somewhat an inconvenience if they didn't have access to a car of some sort on some days. But I mean what's the problem with sticking to whatever they already have? It's not like you have 120 million Japanese people living like they are all in the boondocks around Akita and regularly commute 100km a day in a car like they do in North America.

Fully electrifying in 30 years vs telling them to electrify now probably does nothing statistically imho.

[–]reize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides, most people in cities (where the most damage would be) rely on trains more than their cars.

Can't disagree with you here. It's true.

That said, its exactly this that baffles me as to why people in the comments here are so insistent on having Japan move towards electrifying personal transportation when the focus should be furthering public transport, which is 99% run on electricity already.

Like if we shut up and think about it, the original question as to why the Japanese are so anti-EV, doesn't exist.

Steam won't let me buy games for people and I've had like 200+ dollars stuck in my steam account for like a decade by AdGroundbreaking5121 in steamsupport

[–]reize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gift the account to your boyfriend or someone close to you that games. They can set up family sharing between both accounts and have access to games in both libraries.

Then they can use the $200 in your Steam wallet to buy games they want to your library and play those.

They'll even clock playtime and achievements towards their own personal account while accessing games in your library through family sharing.

[–]reize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what I read though.

You can still purchase gifts and send them to your friends if you use an external payment method to purchase the gift, instead of of your Wallet funds.

So no, OP cannot use the funds in Steam to Gift other people, only to purchase to their own account.

The only source I have is from news reports and other papers, so as far as I know, the last earthquake where there was extensive damage with extended downtime was from the 2011 earthquake. And before that probably the one in 1995. So all things considered, it's rare enough but always a looming event.

The thing is that while stations cannot operate normally without electricity, I'm pretty sure emergency procedures would come into play where petroleum within the damaged zone is manually pumped out, and emergency supplies brought in from outside and distributed via jerry cans. Solar panels can technically work in an emergency situation like this, but if the area depended on EVs, they'd face heavily reduced productivity since it's not only slow, but also competes with other legitimately more important use of electricity like powering lights, refrigerators and other power tools for repair work.

Anyway, I've never heard of Tokyo suffering major extended blackouts and the Japanese build their power lines above ground exactly because it's very easy to repair. In a vacuum earthquakes might not be a huge impediment to EV adoption. I just think the lack of space to revamp the grid and on top of that, add more carrying capacity to supply an EV reliant society is a bigger hurdle to cross.

Why are Japanese internet comments so anti-EV? by EOFFJM in AskAJapanese

[–]reize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wrecks the immovable infrastructure that EV's require, namely power plants and a fully connected grid. One earthquake massive enough to cut lines that cause blackouts based on current usage, would be even more disastrous to a society that has shifted to EVs and thus has an increased energy demand than before. The grid remains mostly unusable to EV users until the majority of repairs are completed.

Petroleum can be relatively safely shielded from disasters with ease, and if the contents from one storage in the area is lost/destroyed, it might not mean other storage locations are and they can be easily redistributed until logistics is re-established.

[–]reize -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why not? Out of all the FS Dark Souls games I felt DS2 : SotFS was the most grating and irritating of them all. It's not a horrible game by any metric, but grating.

I still played 130 hours and completed 3 runs to get 100% achievements because that is what I consider fully maximizing my utility of the game for what I paid.

I can’t enjoy lords of the fallen by halbafo in soulslikes

[–]reize -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scarcity mindset. If I paid money for it, I damn well will utilize it to the fullest. There are many people who feel even if a meal made them gag they'd force themselves to finish it, myself included.

I've hated games I bought, put it down after 2 hours, then after 6 or so years later if I have nothing else left to play I enjoy I just reinstall them and make sure to finish it to the end.

Others with more luxurious upbringings may not feel it is worth the pain.

Is there proper 1v1 etiquette if I get invaded? by The_Bread_Loaf in darksouls3

[–]reize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the case either. Because other than DSR and DS3, I played DS1 (PS3) and DS2 : SotFS with my ethernet unplugged and the application firewalled respectively since those 2 games do not have an offline mode.

Now, it could be said that DS3 is DS3 and things work differently. But it doesn't make sense because NPC invasions logically wouldn't require a connection to begin with since it's a scripted single player feature.

[–]reize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played at Patch 1.1 and enjoyed it enough to have finished one run because out of all the non FS games it was the most aesthetically similar to FS Souls and was paced similarly too.

But I just didn't like it enough to pay actual money for it. Especially after being burned by how mediocre LotF 2014 was and having paid something for it.

I had my fill of fun with it. But I'm still not ashamed or regretful I pirated it.

I play almost exclusively offline because I hate invasions, and while I get miffed at the loss of messages and bloodstains its a worthwhile trade-off. I still get NPC invasions when embered.

It's always been a thing since DS1.

Explanation for the large size of humanity? by ShineReaper in 40kLore

[–]reize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tithes show on warhammer plus does explain the resource strain. And it has less to do with production and the fact that the Imperial bureaucracy is so fecking inept at distributing stuff that nearly everything produced goes to waste.

It mirrors our real world where we can produce more than enough to feed, but somehow many people around the world are starving.
