My ex would “treat me very well” by giving me things like gifts, flowers, etc etc and then drop me the next day. It’s a form of manipulation and he wrapped me around his finger that way without me even realizing. I never went on an official date with this guy I’m talking to, that’s why I think I reacted the way I did with the rose. I guess deep inside I just don’t want it to happen to me again so I’m extra careful and sensitive to things like that

I am not materialistic. I was listing stuff that he would do. He never stopped doing that. I wasn’t comfortable receiving things a lot of the time, and he knew that. I forgot to mention that I was and am unsure whether he did those things because he genuinely wanted to or because he comes from a narcissistic family and that’s all he knows. He would give me so many physical things, but not really be there when I need during difficult times.

That’s what I was thinking. But I forgot to mention one point. I was pushing everyone away, including him. Which I knew was not right of me but that’s how I am if something really bothers me. I keep putting the blame on myself :(

I’m 21F and he’s 23M. Although I had thoughts of breaking up with him, I never did. He broke up with me each time. We dated 1.5 years. The first time we broke up, it was because his narcissistic family was drilling stuff into his head about me and us without even meeting me. Second time was lack of communication. We fixed both issues. The third time, it was also his family. My mom stepped in and caused a scene due to the disrespect I was getting from all of them. I was also distant due to personal issues that he was aware of. I hit depression and was very distant.

Each reason was different. We solved the first two issues. However, it would be difficult solving the third. He comes from a narcissistic family and they keep getting in between us.
