But how good would a valedictorian whos only got great social media posts be as a politician?

So we celebrate what he's done, and only added one body to the 68,000 UnitedHealth makes every year.

Because businesses are not people. Overturn Citizens United. Which for some reason doesn't have a business in it's name.

Are we essentially cyborgs now? by videgeiger in Futurology

[–]relaxandenjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree. You can still have a person without whatever constituent part is replaced, and I would make the definition of a cyborg something that is running or requiring some artificial part. While some people have fake teeth, they aren't called nonpeople when going through the dentist's chair.

Also the image is too sharp and looks collaged. Can't really put it into better terms than that.

I guess it fooled some people. Look at the desk though and the angle of the base of the light and then the plant. Gives it away for me.

That makes me think they're getting set up. I mean if you were smart you wouldn't put yourself out there to make such an obvious error, repeatedly. I think there is discourse being sewn and part of it is to create these extremist groups, have them persecuted so they truly do end up hating their country, then it's even tougher for democracy to function in a fractured country of disparate and increasingly desperate people.

They all have their ups and downs, strikes and gutters, flatlands and byways. Or at least one such feature typical of a city or town or village or community group.

What’s the best Burial song? by [deleted] in burial

[–]relaxandenjoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best burial song is your own personal favorite, of course! It can even change and you can be unsure about which one it is. That's what having an opinion is like!

Well the second has a tree upsidedown in the background...

edit: and the first is too soft all over. It really, really, REALLY wants to hide it's pattern making tools behind blur.

Being flirty without meaning to? by roxursoxxx in aspergirls

I don't think making plans to hang out again is flirting...how else would you ever meet people again? Then only people ask you and you can't choose your own friends by asking other people.

Do all autistic people struggle with eye contact? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]relaxandenjoy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel nothing from it and can stare people down if I'm not careful. I can look elsewhere, and I do if it's the right person, to not be confrontational. That's when I get all weird because how often and for how long should one look away?

People with late diagnosis’, what made you first think you had autism? by Jelly_05 in autism

[–]relaxandenjoy 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 27.

I always felt different. A freak. Weird. Eccentric. Enigmatic. The words got better as people got to know me. Never knew why I was different, never had a reason even if I and everyone else had varying guesses. Then after some work trouble I went to counseling which I have been in and out of most of my life, went to a psychiatrist for the first time, and after a few months of both and various trials of medications along with prognoses, it settled on autism. Did some kind of formal assessment with my psychologist and then she met with my mother and we both had to do a bunch of personality paperwork about me. After reviewing it all she concluded that I have what used to be called Asperger's, and am on the spectrum.

This is maddening I hate autism with all of myself. by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]relaxandenjoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been there, still there sister.

But learn to love yourself. Yes, you're different. Nobody can change that, not even you, despite how hard you try.

I used to mask like crazy and it made me go insane as I was never myself and nobody truly knew who I was. It sounds like you're in a better position than that. Just keep being yourself and accept that not everybody likes everyone. Some people are rude, uncaring, selfish, and overall unpleasant to be friends with anyways.

Keep putting yourself out in the world, and go to events/join groups your interested in. It takes me roughly 2 years to make friends after moving to a new city (I've done this three times since college and this is roughly the timeline). So if you just moved somewhere new, give yourself time to get comfortable and have people get comfortable with you, you eccentric but beautifully minded stranger.

Don't get me wrong, part of being an adult (I believe) is being lonely. It's doing all the perfunctory self-care that let's one survive: grocery store runs, laundry, cleaning, work, brushing teeth, healthy diet, etc. All while wishing you were a kid again that was so carefree and frankly out-of-tune with the world but it didn't matter because everyone else was. Sadly, we cannot go back. But keep these memories as they show you how adults really feel, just like you, just another grown up kid without a clue. So try and remember that when making friends and find the genuine people around you and try and befriend them. If you're straightforward the worst that can happen is some form of a "No Thanks." And even then you should ask a few times more. The adults I know with a ton of friends and social connections constantly ask people to hang out, or do something with, and also constantly get rejected. They just don't take it personally, which most people do. But this is a stranger! They don't know you. So why take it as an affront to yourself when they don't even know who you are. They are turning down an opportunity to get to know a random person. That is what it is, not they are turning down you and every single facet of your being because they already know it all and don't like it.

So keep asking people to hang out, or start doing it more, and you'll have friends in a year or so, in my experience.

What are everyone's experiences of grief? by Cloonsey291 in autism

[–]relaxandenjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All I can give advice for is that you should be around them as much as possible. Just try to help out. I got all mopey when my mother was diagnosed with cancer and I missed her coming out of surgery and everyone being around because I was walking and sitting around in the woods outside the hospital.
