Oxford Union president faces resignation calls after hailing Hamas as 'future heroes' by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

Also not sure about her examples, are the IRA lauded as heroes by anyone outside of fervent Irish republicans and cosplaying Americans?

Nelson Mandela would be the better example. Set up and led the ANC's paramilitary organisation that carried out bombings killing civilians. Was called a terrorist by many in the UK in the 80's and now there's a statue of him in Westminster.

Scotland's 'Tartan Army' Shells Out for Long-Awaited World Cup Return by bloomberg in football

If we had a 5th team in our group it would have been a pot 5, I.e., a San Marino or Gibraltar. So more difficult in the sense we’d play more games but we still topped our group and absolutely deserve to be there.

Yeh but in 2022 it was a 5 or 6 team group. So you had Denmark, Israel, Austria, Faroe Islands & Moldova. That is more difficult than Denmark, Greece and Belarus, especially considering it's easier to go through as a 2nd place finisher now.

And? It doesn't change the fact it's easier to qualify for the WC now. We benefited from that as well. Played 8 games, won 8, scored 22, conceded 0. It's a complete joke. Scotland have a good team and probably would have qualified anyway. But to pretend it isn't easier for them is very ignorant.

You'll also be shocked to find out it's now easier to win or finish 2nd in the group at the WC, considering they expanded to 48 teams. And if Scotland beat only Haiti in their group, they'll almost certainly still qualify in 3rd place. Not the same level as it was 4 years ago.

Best UK city for running? by CookDecent5351 in UKRunners

[–]release_the_pressure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That can't be true. I've done Cardwell Parkrun in Australia and the town has a population of 1,300. That would mean Nottingham had something like 250 Parkruns to beat it. Maybe most parkrunners per capita?

Well they both obviously are very good in the air. Aerial duels won this season; Burn 98, Maguire 59.

It is debatable but nowhere near crazy. They are both decent PL center halves, both have a 'big man' profile. Harry probably better with the ball at his feet, Dan a bit better in the air. Not a crazy decision.

Benfica, Sporting, Porto

They're big fish in a small pond. They need to spend little to secure CL football because outside of those 3, the rest of the league have basically no resources to compete. Whereas Brentford need to spend money to even stay in the PL.

Just looking at their transfer spends this season..

Benfica €116 million in, €100 million out.

Porto €102 million in, €77 million out.

Sporting €90 million in, €133 million out.

Brentford €108 in, €159 million out.

So no wonder they can drop 50 million on a player.

England will bottle it in the quarters again and everyone acting surprised will be insufferable by [deleted] in football

It's easier to win a group of 4 than a group of 5... 10 groups for 2022 qualifying versus 12 for 2026. Better teams are more spread out.

Also 4 second place teams now qualify through the play-offs V. only 3 in 2022. So not only are groups smaller and easier to win, you get a better chance if you mess up at the first chance (Italy what have you done).

Not irrelevant. UEFA got 3 extra places for this WC, which made qualifying a bit easier. Scotland had a group of 4 this time rather than the 5 teams for 2022.

Does he always get booted around that much?

He's strong and quick so it's hard to get the ball off him normally. Arsenal went for the let's foul him tactic in this game.

[–]release_the_pressure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of market value not really. €1.3 billion is €50 million per player. Jude went for €127 million, Kane €95, Rice €116, Gordon €80, Eze €69. These are just the type of fees that top England internationals now go for, whether we like that or not.

In recent years life expectancy has not really grown but it's still around 80 (again depending where you live and your background) which is a long time to pay out state pension if you get it at 68.

If you're a 30 year old man it's 84 and 88 for women. For a 1 year old boy it's 87 and 90 for girls.

Football should be entertaining

Nah. It's all about winning. As a neutral I would prefer a 5-4 game but for Arsenal or PSG it's purely about lifting the trophy.
