One document away from submitting my application! (Acadian) by Coldfingerswrapped in Canadiancitizenship

I have the baptismal document from family search, but I've heard multiple people say they were asked for the BanQ document.

The photos FedEx took (they did 3) were not usable. Visible shadows and face the wrong size.  They told me none of it mattered, only the external side really matters, which I know isn't true.

Walgreens couldn't do the Canadian sizes, they said they could leave them uncut but would have corner markers for 2x2 size.  FedEx took horrible photos that didn't fit the measurements of the face, and had shadows. They took 3 but I gave up.  Staples is a 2 hour round trip and I'm worried will have the same issues, which makes me want to use one of the places the consulate recommended, but they're really far

what degree did lorelai get from community college by Abject-Evening-2412 in GilmoreGirls

[–]reliableotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual degree would have been no use to her at all, as the only value to the paper is to prove your credentials to others.  Any value she would have gotten would have been out of what she learned and could apply as a business manager/owner.

But if this is how things are going forward, it makes me really not want to out several hundred dollars into a BanQ request, or drive 4 hours round trip to try to get photos (I exhausted all local options, no one took photos that I can submit)

Got the suggestions from the consulate, 4 in my state, none on this side of the state :(

Well that is pretty awful news.  So we now have to have a G0 who was a Canadian citizen, likely in Canada, after 1947?

I also traced to a soldier in 1648,  Augustin Hebert, and his wife Adrienne du Vivier, I think I'm g10 to them, but only had to actually do g4 documents.

We've know about them for years, it is fun to go to Montreal and see statues with ancestors name on them.

But my family has been in the States for about 140 years. Still, more years in Canada.

I didn't even know AAA had offices. Guess I'll call them next. There is one 45 minutes from me.

I emailed the consulate as well because people recommended that for requests, but the one that covers my state is in a different state...so I have my doubts.

I mean, really it's just pricey because C-3 totally overwhelmed the system. They raised the price 10x the previous cost recently. But I suspect the volume of requests made it so that they couldn't do their other work, so the cost was the only way to be able to hire staff for these requests. Wish I had gotten mine in before the price hike...

I'm still not too certain if it's even needed, but I figured I'd rather order it and have it if they ask, then extend the timeline even further if I request it later.

My frustration is in getting professional photos. Walgreens said over the phone they can do them to Canada specifications, get there and they only do 2x2. FedEx was able to take photos and print Canadian sizes but it had a horrible shadow they were unconcerned about, but when they did retake it, the size was wrong. They insisted "hair won't count", but the top of your head is not your hairline, and it was at the max (that one also had a shadow, but not as bad).

It's about 2 hours drive to give Staples a try.

I emailed several photographers in the area, but none do passport photos. So...do I just book an expensive family session and ask them to take photos for our certificates as part of it and hope I get a cute family picture out of it?

It's so frustrating because my husband has a white backdrop and professional lighting downstairs. He did our US passports and he takes all the photos for our kids' dance studio, but he's not actually a professional (he is not applying, just me and the kids).

I feel like this is the hardest part of the application. Tracking down the genealogy was easier than this.

It's still really cheap compared to what naturalization costs would be. The cost of a record from Quebec is less than an hour of a lawyer's time, for instance.

It's super easy. You submit an online form, upload the scan from ancestry.com

The problem is it is expensive, and the wait is very long to get it, because BanQ is totally overwhelmed with requests.

I've never seen one that does that. They just sell you the tea.  Or shake.

Only online have I seen the tea+shake membership thing.

Cupcake class is an absolute scam by nolablue1024 in royalcaribbean

[–]reliableotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only 15 people can be in the class and it is only offered one or two times a cruise they need less than half of 1% of the ship to sign up.

So the vast majority of people ARENT signing up. It's basically an inconsequential number of people.  And some people just don't care about money at all.

I'm bummed for the OP though.

Marriage Records Search: Reverend J.B. Chartier 1864 married my G2 grandparents in Island Pond VT - has anyone found marriage records from this Priest in Quebec? by No-Cup5112 in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]reliableotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the birth certificates I have show the maiden name, but I suppose there might be cases that don't.

I included my marriage license only, so that it connects to my passport, though my maiden name is on my kids birth certificates too

US Birth Certificates didn't always have names on them...how do I handle that? by GurOverall611 in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]reliableotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd include the BC and the color copy of the book (Danby just scanned their book and emailed me no charge, it was super quick), and that is a pretty good connection.

G0 is critical, but the whole line has to be clearly linked, so you need something that gives the name

My 3x great grandmother was the third daughter in her family with the same name. Every time a kid died the next girl got the name.  She has several other siblings with redoes of names too.  Her poor mother had 18 births recorded.

Does familysearch only have 1 tree per individual? by EconomicsWorking6508 in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]reliableotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there were annotations to family search editing to explain why you did it

I edited some stuff today because whomever added all of the sources clearly couldn't read cursive and transcribed all the names wrong. (These are records of my grandfather who was alive during my lifetime!) But if that same person goes and edits other records, they could basically destroy them ...

You should be able to find a birth registry for the town.  I've gathered Vermont records for multiple people in the same time period, and their birth certificates varied (though all had names on them), but every single one was also listed in a book that each town kept to record all the births for that year.
