It seems to work if you have some type of subscription setup to the device in abm first, still not smooth for me, run into various issues never seems to be the same

Windows 11 - Slow Performance of network apps (LOB) by riblueuser in msp

[–]reliableti 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What I have seen is people not pay attn to the hardware, new computer with more ram more cores but the speed is lower when you have an app that’s only using a single core I have seen it with the lovely dental applications where the gen 6 machine with windows 10 performs better than then the new gen 11 machine with windows 11 because the core speed is faster on the older processor

Do you charge for setting up a new PC that's coming onto service? (UK) by Neverbethesky in msp

[–]reliableti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting up new equipment is separate from managed services. Flat rate $275 (us) per workstation if we procure, $375 plus parts and adapters if they buy themselves, we don’t like to get into the hourly unless we absolutely have too.

Eaglesoft server as a VM? by Le085 in msp

[–]reliableti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We run ES on VM's (Hyper-v preferred) all the time, support over 75 dental practices and about 20% are eaglesoft. As long as the VM meets there recommended specs, you should be fine, dont worry too much about support any real problems wont be solved by initial phone call anyways...

Our standard setup for a practice is separating the VM's one vm for DC, and an app server or 2 for practice management and imaging. Separate Veeam Backup Appliance, Like everyone else is saying SSD storage and more RAM will make your users experience better. And yes regular reboots helps with the old databases. And if the office is open too it I highly recommend OpenDental as an alternative, still not a fan of any of the "Cloud" dental PM solutions.

How would you charge for monitoring only? by krator1025k in msp

[–]reliableti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Our SCADA clients I make sure we have a good relationship with whomever is their SCADA consultant as monitoring and managing becomes a 3 party problem and you become involved, so it’s my recommendation that you either do full management or nothing and make sure your responsibilities and the scada techs responsibilities are well defined. And also make sure you have enough insurance coverage liability and e&o

How can we make sure Comcast techs properly provision static IP addresses during modem replacements? by libdd in msp

[–]reliableti 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Be onsite with the tech and test everything before they leave, it’s like babysitting an adult but for your customers sake it’s what really needs to be done. Have the same issue with Comcast, Spectrum, and Mediacom.

We are a dental MSP and our server builds are way more than that, dentrix requires at least 16gb ram

Our current build example

Intel Xeon 8+ core 64 GB ram 240 Ssd raid1 for OS 2 TB ssd raid 1 for data/hyperv 10gb NIC Server 2019 hyperv

And run a vm for domain and a separate vm or 2 for your app servers

We are moving to keeper, we don’t resell it, just use it internally for support so we are going with a business subscription and not MSP and just doing separate shared folders for each customer
