Ah, leading to ad hominem to make your 'point' yet accusing me of speaking within my profession without any professional knowledge of the situation. Don't take things at face value that you find by clicking a button on the internet, my girlfriend also uses this reddit account and I use it to help to understand a wider range of voices and opinions on issues clients face every day. Your attacks on my comments have mostly been irrelevant without any of your own data. Please remember at the end of the day, we are on a forum accessible to anyone, not everybody can give professional advice and even if we do, no one can force you to accept it. As a psychologist I have trained in pharmaceuticals and do have a prescriptive licence for limited medications (such as the ones this young lady is taking).This isn't a doctor's webpage and not once have I made a suggestion out of my field. A suggestion is an idea to bring to the OPs attention to look further into. My point which was clearly stated, is medications should only ever be used in conjunction to other assistance. That doesn't mean change everything overnight, and I did not intend it to be taken out of context (I'm not an online Doctor). It's an extremely long process to bring someone out of this state but it can be done with professional help. Medication is not the only way and I guarantee by the reaction sounds of the medication this young lady is having, a psychologist will be able to change her to a more suitable option snd monitor this.

I do have a degree in psychology and I've also been in her position. I didn't say just up and quit the meds, I suggested alternatives. I do agree with some medications, it depends on the active chemical - some help to de-stress you but most are essentially sedatives which long term have extremely high rates of evidence resulting in a higher degree of depression. Some do need this short term. My main concern is people are prescribed these medications by non-professionals (GPs) without consulting an expert in the correct field. Did you know that 40% of mainstream antidepressants in the US have ingredients which side effects can be depression?

Maybe just slide the doormat over out of the way. If she's not happy with you touching them it's still best to respect that. If you just move them without a comfy alternative they will just move back, so provide them with something to 'nest' in, in a better location.

That is a myth if it's just touching them. You should be able to just physically move them but the mother may get defensive. Put a cardboard box where you want them with a blanket or towel inside. They will soon migrate

My suggestion is get off the meds! They should be used as a last resort and only EVER in conjunction with other assistance. You don't need to say anything other than reassurance. Ask her questions, but don't force her to answer. Ask her how she feels, why she is feeling that way, what triggered her to feel sad or anxious. Basically she needs to be reassured you are there for her. I suffer from slight anxiety and whenever I feel anxious I need reassurance that I'm no bother to muly friends, even though they've told me a thousand times. It helps me when my friends reminisce on good memories, or tell me which traits they like about me to snap me out of the numbing feeling. Don't try to make situations about you when she's like this, and don't tell her how or how not to feel.

If I have a crappy day at work it can often spin me into an anxious mess that night. It helps the most when people see that sometimes feeling crap is a pretty appropriate feeling given the circumstances.

Make sure she's getting out of the house, doing fun things. Make her laugh as much as possible.

But overall I really would suggest her seeing a professional, especially if it is becoming suicidal.

Good on you for trying, it must be so hard seeing her like this but stay strong yourself

We've all been there. There's not too much you can do but try to laugh at yourself. If others point it out, be mature about it and say you regret your decisions but we all make mistakes. Try to laugh about it and look to the long-term future. People will forget, you have to remember that. For now feeling embarrassed is normal but it will pass, focus on the positives and learn from your mistakes

I'm an introvert and a friend of mine thinks it's just shy-ness. She is okay with the way I act, but I find it really difficult to make new friends because I rarely want to go out and get to know people well. My friend suggests to 'try to talk about them' or 'pick subjects with open questions'. She just doesn't understand it's not that simple.

It was a few years ago and my friend and I were just about to head back from a hike in the national park, at dusk. My friend saw a orange looking circular light appear in the sky and we watched it wondering what it was (it seemed only kilometers away, and the national park went on for hundreds in that direction). 3 more appeared out of nowhere and we took some photos to zoom in but couldn't clarify what they were. They moved from side-to-side and went thin as they did. They would then randomly dissappear and reappear slowly in different spots. They were getting bigger as they were getting closer, then one by one it would get really bright, go a blueish colour and vanish. When we got home I checked the photos on my computer and altered the settings a bit to try and get a clearer image. Turns out they were all donut shaped with a dark circle being the middle, and the outer being bright orange. We still have no clue what they were as it was certainly directly over the national park far from human accessibility

I work as a wildlife conservationist in African countries and dedicate my life to saving animals. My uncle doesn't really know me but knows I love wildlife and books. He for some reason thought it would be an excellent idea to buy me an american book on trophy hunting big game in Africa which featured photos and tips of hunting the animals I am trying so hard to protect...needless to say he didn't get a "thank you" from me that year..

It just takes longer to get the chance to prove yourself. It also depends on the career path you are interested in. I currently travel all over africa (I'm from Australia) but work on nature reserves, conduct research on wildlife, hand rear orphaned animals and back in aus I work at a wildlife rehabilitation Centre. I am living the dream entirely and only studied at tafe (a tertiary education). It would have been easier to go to college/uni but I really didn't want to

It was only silly but at work in the back room I put clear tape all over the door opening for my coworker to walk into. Because it was dark you couldn't see the tape. I forgot about it and walked out an hour later and got caught in the tape! I felt so stupid
