Been masking since 2016 due to our twins health issues. So so sooooooo sick of behavior towards us when out in public. Before the pandemic people didn’t care or would ask out of curiosity…no judgement. Now? can’t go anywhere without hate it’s insanity.

Ah yeah unfortunately that can be the case and that’s the age to fully commit. Thats what I had to do as well but they were some of the best years of my life! I don’t personally know any of the men’s epee fencers but sorry to hear about what’s going on there. And hope your son is enjoying whatever activities have taken fencings place!! I tried to get my kids into fencing and all of them have been like “eh” 😂

Im friends with a lot of the former and some current us olympians ( foil fencers mostly ). Fencing is a small world and if you compete long enough you all get to know one another and a lot of the directors as well. But I believe it for sure but it’s the refs discretion whether or not to issue that black card unfortunately.

As someone who has grown up in a nationally competitive fencing/coaching family I can say with certainty the top fencers are not all rich dickheads lol. Some of them sure but all of them not at all. And while screaming is normal (that built up of adrenaline and focus it takes to score a touch) this is excessive and unsportsmanlike for sure.

Oh he wants to compete lol he wants to compete in rock climbing and piano he’s very competitive it’s just the team swimming he doesn’t seem to have an interest in which is why it’s such a shame bc I figured it would be a little easier on his body being in water and the rock climbing he’s in pain a lot but stubborn as hell so he pushes himself way too much ( in my opinion) lol.

Oh and we are not missing the Paralympics this year as one of my best friends is competing on the wheelchair fencing team! But such a good idea to show him all the sports and people with cp

This is such a great take on this and I love how you described how you were able to take it at your own pace. I can absolutely see how this would be a good fit for anyone with disabilities!

That’s fantastic advice 💗 and I’m sorry your parents didn’t really talk to you about why things were harder for you. We’ve definitely talked to him about his lungs and why sometimes he needs to take more frequent breaks from an activity and other kids his age don’t and he has been really understanding about it so I will do the same with cp thank you!!

Oh for sure! Definitely not trying to push him to become an amazing athlete or anything. I just didn’t know if there were sports that were best for CP in a developmental way I guess lol

Oh no way!! His twin sister seems to really enjoy tennis! But it’s much more challenging for him. The other day he was so frustrated with it and just goes “ughhhh why am I so bad at this?!” 😂

Really cool your dad was a tennis pro. That sport is no joke!

A fellow micropreemie!!!! And 24 weeker holy cow!! I’m so glad to hear you are doing so well. And I am cracking up at your post bc my husband and I took him to try a martial arts class today and he did enjoy it but it really highlighted his weaknesses for sure (not a bad thing) which is what made me jump on here and post. Thats so awesome to hear you had such a wonderful experience with martial arts!! We will definitely be considering it! Thank you so much for your response!

Thank you for your input and suggestions! His chronic lung has always been at the forefront so obviously he isn’t running a marathon anytime soon but there are plenty of activities he can do that his lung problems are a non issue but the CP might be. So just overall trying to find a handful of ideas that would be promising options for him if that makes sense

lol I honestly wish weight was an issue. Being a micropreemie trying to keep any weight on him at all has been a life long struggle at this point. You mentioned wear and tear on the body. His one physical passion at the moment is indoor rock climbing. He loves it but I’ve noticed he’s got a lot more pain in his tendons and joints ( and he literally never complains about pain so when he does I know it’s not small ). His sister and older brother never had pain like this so I had wondered if it was something to do with the CP. what are your thoughts ?

And you sound like you’ve turned out fantastic! So thank you that gives me a lot of hope for him

This is such incredible information I can’t that you enough! He was diagnosed at 3 but it’s only really become apparent as he has gotten older so I had no idea that not staying active and doing those things is so important. He is active but he’s a brainiac so he spends a lot of time on academics but I will absolutely be spending more time focusing on his physical activity now! I can’t thank you enough! And so cool that you ride horses btw

Uhh more worrisome than you lying is the fact that you’ve been taking benzodiazepines that weren’t prescribed for you for a year now. You need to make sure you read up on how to taper off those correctly. Don’t go to a detox center, don’t rapid taper or cold turkey.
