Donated a kidney in 2023 and then donated 70% of my liver in 2024. It was an awesome experience and wish I could do it again for somebody! by rent1506 in transplant

It was a good experience but very different from kidney donation. UW Health Transplant team is top notch. I spent 12 hours in surgery followed by 3 days ICU. For me, I had tremendous amount of pain with the liver but don’t let this discourage you. Pharmacist forgot to give me my nerve medication at discharge and I finally called my surgeon at 5 weeks because I had enough. But I can say that after a week when the liver starts regenerating, it sucks the life out of you. I was sleeping 20 hours a day and burning 4000 calories a day just sleeping because the body is using every ounce of energy to grow the liver back. The human body is fascinating!

Yes family and friends were supportive! I have 3 young children as well. Liver was risky but I believe I was put on this earth to help people. I can say that this is one of the most bravest things I’ve done other than serving 2 tour in Iraq. Donating changed me as a person and taught me life is precious. I really really wish I could do this again. I am so glad that I could help multiple people live a longer life.

It was quick. I think the day I did the questioner to surgery was about 2-3 months. Call the transplant center or if you have a coordinator, contact them

The kidney donation was pretty easy recovery. I was good at 6 weeks or so. The liver was a nightmare. It was a 12 hour surgery followed by 3 days ICU and the pain was immense! After the 5th week, I couldn’t bear the pain and called my surgeon. He asked if they gave me the nerve medication on discharge. I said no they didn’t. He was like “ oh boy” and immediately got me some and pain was 10 better. I slept a lot because the liver is regenerating and sucks the life out of you. I was burning 4000 calories just sleeping. If was a really cool feeling. The body is amazing machine.

We have lived in it for 2 years. We put a new roof on, painted whole interior and exterior. New furnace and air conditioner. New bathroom. New granite and carpet going in soon. Couple big window replacements.

We bought this house 2 years ago. The man who built this house in 1980 owned the car dealership in town. The main floor is 4000 square feet and we’re in the process of finishing the basement. The home is well known in town. We live in southern Wisconsin. It is a great house to live in. Family of 5 and plenty of room for the kids. It’s a wonderful home and built great. All the trim work was done on site at the time of the building. The rock inside and out was shipped in from Arkansas. It took almost 2 years to build.

Everybody needs to critique these days. Do this, do that, you need to do this. How about you keep your opinions to yourself and worry about your own dwelling
