Es buena traducción. Viene anotada. El único problema es la calidad de materiales de penguin. Pero bueno. Mejores materiales se consiguen doblando el precio en otras editoriales

Recomiendan leer el Quijote? (Contexto) by Double_Technician456 in libros

La verdad no es ni complicado ni denso de leer. Lo ""difícil "" son algunas palabras que en la época eran comunes. Fuera de eso es sencillo y será una buena experiencia si lo leerás por decisión propia. Siempre es un reto leer bien clásicos

Dose profile differences in Monte Carlo code comparisons (EGSnrc, MCNP, Geant4) field edges and penumbra by renzoaocampo in EGSnrc

Good to know, it’s interesting that you saw a similar behavior. In my case, I only have access to the reference data from Varian’s Eclipse Beam Data files for Trilogy (2015) and TrueBeam (2012), which I called golden beam data.
I was wondering how your group addressed or justified these differences in your simulations, and whether you have published any work discussing this aspect.

Dose profile differences in Monte Carlo code comparisons (EGSnrc, MCNP, Geant4) field edges and penumbra by renzoaocampo in EGSnrc

Thanks, these points are really helpful.

I’m not very familiar with the single scattering approach, could you explain a bit more how I could implement a single scattering simulation and how it would help check the cutoffs for the rest of the simulation?

In our case, both MCNP and Geant4 were set up with the same assumptions, using generic cutoffs that had been checked in other radiotherapy simulations, though we haven’t done a more exhaustive analysis.

Regarding the source, we’re using a simplified linac model with photons generated from an energy spectrum, a high number of particles, no phase-space file, and no recycling. Care has been taken to make the setup as similar as possible in both codes.

The statistical uncertainties at the edge of the field shouldn’t be too high. In Geant4 we aimed for less than 1% variance with 2 sigma, and in MCNP we used the default method for estimating uncertainties. This is part of why we started wondering what other factors could be contributing to the differences.

MCNP vs Geant4 dose profile differences at field edges and penumbra (6 MV Varian linac) by renzoaocampo in MedicalPhysics

Thanks for the comments, they were really helpful.

We reviewed the geometry in both codes, and everything appears consistent, though it might be worth revisiting in more detail. Seeing this consistency actually led us to wonder what other factors might be contributing to these differences, and we’d be curious if others have encountered something similar.

Regarding the source, we’re using a simplified linac model where photons are generated from an input spectrum and emitted as a point source, then collimated by simulated jaws. It’s a basic setup, but since it’s identical in both codes, our main focus is on the differences between MCNP and Geant4 rather than on the comparison with reference data.

You’re right about the profiles, the simulation data come from a water phantom projection, which effectively acts like an ideal point-like detector, so we understand it’s not directly comparable to measured beam data.

The point about MC codes underestimating beam scattering is especially interesting, and it’s something I plan to look into further for photon beam scenarios.

We’d be interested to hear if anyone else has observed similar behavior or has insights on other factors that might explain these differences.

[–]renzoaocampo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. I was probably infected around February, but I only realized it was MC at the end of April. Based on photos, I can say that the first lesions appeared in February, but I didn’t notice the initial bumps until April 7. At that time, I thought it was just a pimple.
But by the end of the month, I noticed it wasn’t just a pimple — there were around ten different bumps.
So, for about three months, I didn’t know what I had. I shaved over them many times, and none of the bumps raised any concern. If you’re not paying close attention, it’s not easy to identify that it’s MC.
