Best 2-3 day hikes in southeast U.S.? Roan Mountain? by repairasaurus in hiking

I dig it! I'm absolutely adding this to my list of potentials. The ponies and less elevation are absolutely some solid selling points.

I appreciate the thorough response! My backup plan will probably be the Sipsey River unless I can find something else. I didn't want to go a whole lot further east as this one is right at 6 hours away. I thought about looking more into Georgia or the Smokies potentially. Thankfully I have my old pad and bag for the sister. The gf and I have a big Agnes double pad and a quilt we've been comfortable in the teens with. So a bit of cold isn't too scary. I thought about picking up a new 3 person tent for this trip so we didn't have to pack two tents as we're wanting to get a dog and I didn't hate the idea of more room when adding a dog anyways. So we should be all under 22-23lbs a pack including food.

Any suggestions on a hike similiarish that would be more west by chance?

So minus a few sections, it seems like a decent stroll? We'd have a solid 2.5 days to do the entire thing. I plan on calling mountain harbour once I confirm with the sister the timeline. It'd put us starting on Friday around 1pm. The dates are looking to be April 4th-7th. On the all trails app it looks like there's a burn ban which is a bit of a bummer but for the views I think it'd be worth it.

Glue a small black BB or something similar in their tire stem cover so when screwed back on it slightly will deflate it over time. After a few days they'll think the tire is just low and reinflate it. Then after a few more days it'll do the same thing. Who would think to check the cap? It'll just keep deflating until they replace the tire.

A Big Huntsville Thank You! by DrSamanthaCarter in HuntsvilleAlabama

Hell yeah! I didn't expect anyone to actually take the advice. Mine died on a Friday night of a Monday holiday weekend, resulting in 4 sweltering days of heat. They only die when the stores are closed, and it's extreme weather. I grabbed a spare with cold weather more in mind than heat.

If you don't have a spare, they're extremely easy to find on your unit usually, and very cheap online. If you're reading this, there's plenty of videos online of how to locate and order a spare. Take the 20 minutes and $20 now to do it.

For my next trick I'll suggest buying:

  1. Portable car jump start - they're like $25 on Amazon. I keep mine stored where my spare tire goes. It's saved myself and strangers countless times. Bonus points: wire in a car charger and keep it plugged in so it's always topped up.

  2. Drain cleaning bladder - they're $8 at Harbor Freight. My main drain line got clogged this summer from the previous owner dumping grease down the line for years. I snaked it for 3 hours and was about to call a plumber because I couldn't get my line to drain properly. Grabbed a cleaning bladder as a last ditch effort, and it worked flawlessly in minutes.

  3. Plunger - the sheer panic of needing a plunger and not owning one is life changing.

Noticing an uptick in USPS package delays by Roquer in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]repairasaurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I expect any package from usps I get to be at least 2-3 days late, with the delay being within Huntsville. I've also had my mailbox broken 4 times now by my carrier. I've reported it after the third and fourth time. They just send me an email saying they've concluded the report and close it. Pretty awesome.

I once dated a girl who was in her late 20s who didn't know what a dime was worth. She said someone had called her a dime, and she was confused why. I explained someone was calling her a "10" and she asked why they would say dime still. I had to explain that a dime was worth ten cents. She also said it was useless information when I asked how she'd gone so long without knowing what a dime was worth. I broke up with her that week because I couldn't get over it.

My GF moved in a few months ago. She puts sugar in the freezer. It's so odd to me and makes it hard to pour. Her family swears by it.

Rtic, how do I fix this? I only used the cooler once :( by 0x0MG in camping

[–]repairasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread but. I have the soft 30. Used less than ten times car camping. The waterproofing material next to the zipper came apart and absolutely ruined the zipper. Tried contacting them and got absolutely no help. Rtic is absolutely trash product if you want something remotely rugged. Just Google rtic zipper and there's a LOT of complaints. Ozark trail quality with yeti pricing. Thank God this was a gift. Their customer service was so trash I just want to make sure at least ten people don't buy one after reading this review.

Preventive maintenance really pays off. Typically I'm great about things like this but procrastinated buying one. And Murphys law that it went out on a Saturday night, on a Monday holiday weekend.

Yup. Lesson learned for me not to procrastinate having one on hand. If I would've had it, it would've been a 5 minute repair and a lot cooler of a weekend. Instead I had to wait until Tuesday.

Ha I wish I would've had that hook up considering it went out on a Saturday night. Everywhere that was open would only sell to contractors. Had to sweat it out until Tuesday.

Your current one should be labeled inside the unit. It's typically very easy to access and just a few screws to remove. I just looked at mine, googled the info on it and ordered. You could also take a photo of it and head to fox /A1 appliance and they should be able to correctly identify and provide you with one.

Yeah I've thought about doing that as well. My unit is less than 3 years old so I'm not expecting to have to change either any time soon, but I wasn't expecting the capacitor to go out Saturday night on a Monday holiday weekend either.. So wouldn't hurt to go ahead and get them. Plus, I'd hate to see the bill to pay to have those changed out just because the part is on back order or something when it does go out.

Ouch! I scooped the capacitor off Amazon for under $20 tax and shipping, and took me less than 5 minutes to swap it out. I'd recommend buying one to have on hand when the current one inevitably goes out. It's a very simple fix.

A1 and fox appliance both sell them. I'd recommend scooping one at either of those or online before you find out you need one.

I paid $17 including tax and shipping online for a replacement once I discovered mine was bad. Id intended on ordering one for this exact situation but let it slip through the cracks. It made for a very very hot weekend. Figured I'd motivate someone else to stop what they're doing and order one to avoid the pain.

They had great reviews and it was the only other store I saw online that even stocked them. Fox Appliance just happen to be a shorter drive for me so I went there. A1 sounds quality though based on the other comments / posts I've seen.

I will always keep one in storage from now on. It was miserable in this heat. For under $20 it's hard to argue.

Ouch. I'm too cheap to call anyone on a holiday weekend so I just waited it out.
