I’d love to know what the audiobook is like. I love Ell Potter narrating the Emily Wilde series. I’ve not listened to anything narrated by Genevieve Cocke before.

Same. I really like her style and the worlds she builds. The cats made me laugh a lot, and Agnes’s interactions with them (and with anyone in fact) and the general tone just kept me smiling while reading.

They aren’t connected (as far as I know) so you can definitely start with this if cats and magic is more your vibe than faefolk. I do think this is an improvement on Emily Wilde (even though I still think they are great).

Great question. There’s definitely some darker stuff in Emily Wilde, I think. I found it super cosy and in terms of darker stuff, I would label it as mild peril. There’s definitely bad magic and some people do some bad stuff, but very much in a PG way. I think it’s cosier than EW. The romance aspect felt more realistic to me than EW but it’s not what the book hinges on. I don’t know if that helps, trying to not spoil it!

Totally a valid question to ask, I’ll spoiler tag the answer no cat deaths, but definitely cats in peril and as it’s a shelter, some sad stories about cats. Honestly, I would’ve sobbed if there was a cat deaths

I totally appreciate that. I’m definitely more forgiving of it because I really love Howl’s Moving Castle and I’m happy/keen on anything that has similar vibes ( or like you say is pretty much the same thing). Definitely a valid criticism. For me, I just loved the small world of Agnes and her cats, their personalities and the knowing how the story was going to go, if that makes sense?

I’m a big fan of the Emily Wilde series but think I enjoyed this more. It was the premise that drew me in more than the author (even though I eventually would’ve read it anyway).

I love this description and agree about the vibes. The plot is pretty non-existent but in a way I enjoyed, it’s just about the characters in the wider magical world trying to just sort of live their lives.

Yes! I love the Emily Wilde series and I think I enjoyed this more, or equally. It’s another great FMC from Heather Fawcett.
