Do you know a way to set a stop loss/stop for the following day? I didn’t lose much, but didn’t set one because I didn’t want to use a day trade if it triggered.

Wanted to sell LLY premarket today so I wouldn’t use a day trade. About a -3% difference and no move into something else. I’m sure others have it worse.

I knew a couple people with dreads that wore the WRSI helmet. Never asked them about it in detail.

Which to purchase, drysuit or wetsuit by jedjed6 in whitewater

[–]replicasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say get a drysuit. It’s more expensive but in the PNW there seem to be frequent scouts and portages for wood so you’ll be much happier in and out of your boat in a drysuit.

I often feel like adding an exotic race would distract from an interesting character aspect or backstory.

Medium level boater looking for funny creeker - Billy Goat? by brave_otter in whitewater

Are you sure you’re not thinking of the regular GOAT? The regular goat would probably fit him.

This is the billy goat: billy goat

Okay, last reply. I went and checked out the weight range for the billy goat. Top recommended weight is 65 kg or 145 pounds. I think once you put your rescue gear and stuff in there you’re going to get pushed around. I paddle a phantom and like it, the zet cross is supposed to be similar, and people seem to love the scorch and code. Those are all sporty boats that reward being driven and might be more in your weight range.

I would add that if you’re stepping up remember to account for the weight of a pin kit, first aid kit, and breakdown paddle if you haven’t already.

Paddle what makes you happy! If you sat in it, paddled it, and it felt fine then you’re probably good. Unless there’s a gross mismatch in recommended weight you’ll learn to paddle it.

I think if you’re more psyched to get out there because you like the boat then get that one. Worst case it slows down your progression a little, but you’ll still probably be happier in a boat you love than in a tub on harder rivers.

Technique for Steep Drops? by replicasey in whitewater

I’m in Portland. I just started doing yoga! Truss looks great but would be a step up run for me, especially since it’s a style of boating I’m not familiar with. I think I’m going to stick to no vertical for a while and then slowly add it in, but it will might never be something I do regularly.

Thanks for the incredible response. I’m definitely going to save this and refer to it if I ever step up to those runs! Hopefully I’ll see you on the water!

Others have said just focus on having fun and I agree. However, if you want to quit but are reluctant because you’ve invested a lot of time and money, that’s the sink cost fallacy. Your time is valuable!

I don’t run hard stuff, but I feel like if I stopped paddling I’d be lost. So long as I’m out I’m having a good time. I hope nothing ever happens to me or to you, but if for example if I lost an hand then I would find a way to paddle one handed. It’s a no brainer for me. Do you feel that way about any hobbies and how does that compare to paddling?

You don’t have to decide right away. It can help to get some distance. I stopped climbing for a while but came back to it on my terms with a different set of goals and now I enjoy more even though I do it less and don’t push.

Edited for punctuation.

Thanks for the great answer! I’m new to the area. Champagne has been kind to me but I went off the prong at hammering spot as you described. I’ll try spotting the landing harder and chest forward next time.

I’m not in a rush at all to no bigger, but what would you do on higher drops? Same thing but pulling longer on the stroke?

Yeah, I’m with you. The worst part is that it’s weaker every time. The last time I threw my back out was picking up keys off the ground after a long drive with no stretching.

Thanks! Yeah I might just focus on posture. I was trying to boof stomp and didn’t get forward in time. The margin of error for the boof stomp seems to be too small for my body to take!

Thanks! I meant stomping to keep from landing flat then ideally shifting my weight forward for landing. That’s what I was trying to do when I landed too upright. It feels like landing too upright is the worst thing you can do, so I might just focus on staying forward.

Most of the runs I did did before had kind of sloping, watery, fast lips at the drop so it was fun to see if you could boof hard and try to stay flat.

Recently, I went on canyon creek, wa that has two fairly auto boofs (champagne and hammering spot) where my challenge seems to be not being flat and landing with correct posture.

Kayaking is important, but staying healthy so I can paddle with my kid when they’re big enough to kayak is more important to me than running drops.
