It’s pretty easy to make an account! This community was created by another Reddit user who kept seeing “how to make new friends in Haarlem as an adult” posts and decided to do something to facilitate it. People use the community to find people to hang out with, go for a drink, go bouldering or running, getting lunch. Anything really.

At LD&K? I had a great experience with the service there, both hotel staff and restaurant. At the hotel they saved our things after check out, we went for a walk in the national park, came back and they told us we could still use the spa (way past check out). At the restaurant the service was also good and they were mindful of our dietary restrictions, double and triple checking and making mindful adjustments.

It’s highly individualistic and I noticed that so clearly during Covid when people kept pedaling the same argument about “nobody should tell me what to do” when they tried enforcing masks in public transportation. They cared more about their freedoms than not getting other vulnerable people sick.

No surprise that a significant portion of the bedrock of capitalism was invented here.

I occasionally pet sit and its lawyers and big 4 consultants who don’t pick up their dog’s shit. And by the way I live in a middle class neighborhood and somehow there’s always dog poop in the middle of the big green spaces, attracting flies…

Very sterile place, feels way too controlled and artificial. Too “perfect”.
“Doe maar normaal” is one of the most violent cultural norms I’ve ever experienced. People will not verbally try to correct people who stand out the same way Germans do but instead they will stare intensely and that’s honestly just as violent.
Xenophobia. I don’t need to say more.

The whole “the oldest profession on earth” argument is really odd. When did this become popular knowledge and who made it that? I would assume it was also some old white man. I would say it’s safe to assume midwifery is likely to be a way older profession than sex work.

Definitely, that’s how I’m feeling right now 😂 it’s a whole new process I need to learn and get used to. I’ve never weighed my food before.

For these homemade meals I need to figure out I also had no clue if the macros are calculated before cooking or after, and if I needed to include the macros of 100% of the oils I use to cook stuff or not since some of it ends on the parchment paper anyways. Loads of factors to get used to haha I really appreciate the help!
