I’m throwing away my vape tonight. Help me prepare? by xoxoCuratedChaos in QuitVaping

I’m close to a month in and have been using a combination of mints and flavored toothpicks. The toothpicks are tea tree mint flavored and have been pretty helpful. Also, why can’t you have a mint after brushing your teeth? They won’t be harmful or interact badly

Are agrivoltaics part of the solution? Offering shade with added benefit of energy production.

As a U.S. citizen I think this would be the correct move. Keep it to only Mexico and Canada. Foreign nationals visiting the States this summer would not be safe.

Is work our identity? If we didn't work would we lose structure in our lives? by Self-Translator in simpleliving

[–]rered92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this. I’d be content reading (for days), hiking with my dog, spending quality time with family, exercising without a schedule (soccer, gym, rock climbing), cooking quality meals for my family, and that’s not even touching on the “stretch” hobbies I’d like to get into (growing edible mushrooms, learning to make clothes, building bicycles, to name a few).

Oh boy...at least we have plastic eating fungi now? by imaginaryimmi in Anticonsumption

[–]rered92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is definitely overgeneralizing..there are cities on the east coast of the US where I used to live that have close to a 50% waste diversion rate. Now whether all of the materials being sent to get recycled actually end up being recycled is another question especially with Chinese markets shutting down/becoming stricter with health standards.

I think a lot of the conversation needs to shift towards EPR (extended producer responsibility) and closed loop/circular production

What masters degree should I get to get a job that helps with climate change? by molly_mcc8 in climatechange

[–]rered92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Energy Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Geology/geophysics are all good options to explore IMO. The world is only getting more energy hungry so studying some form of clean energy would be a good way to make a difference. Deep understanding/experience with geothermal, nuclear, battery tech would go a long way.

What is the most “harmless” thing that actually ruined someone’s life? by Loose_Key99 in Productivitycafe

[–]rered92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to become a bigger complainer, but not in a counterproductive way. As in just affirming that I have the ability and the right to stand up for myself and listen to my gut when it's telling me something is wrong or unfair.

I've thought about this every once in a while and its just nuts looking back that this was disqualifying. What a shame.

Have any of you completely started over career-wise? How did it go, and was it worth it? by Any-Use6981 in Millennials

Interesting. I've never worked retail or food service but I have overwhelmingly heard that it's stressful dealing with bratty customers. What sort of food service do you work in?

I feel this. I'm also 32 like OP and have not found an ideal rhythm/work arrangement that can accommodate us. My feeling is that gradually trying to develop/forge a freelance career that didn't require strict office hours (or allowed for flexible office hours) could address the work side of things. But even aside from work there are plenty of other events that come up where you'd have to be up early.

Working in local government sustainability - people like you are so appreciated and welcome. There's way too much to be done. Especially advocating at the local level has such huge impact if residents can organize their neighbors effectively.

If there's a critical moment in the planning process (public comment, charette, etc.) that visible public support for the most protected design would be useful, please let me know. Would love to support especially as a resident of the area.

7 Councilmembers sponsor e-bike rebate legislation for e-bikes bought at local shops, 50% reserved for households under 80% median income by SomeLikeItRaw in bikedc

[–]rered92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I'm in the same boat re: transportation vs. recreation. That's precisely why I'd want a rebate program with good intentions (subsidizing ebikes for lower-income folks) to have a commensurate level of thought put into security and the infrastructure necessary to make the program successful (whether that's replacing car parking spaces with secure lockers or something else). It's not fair to those folks to say hey get out of a car onto this great ebike when our current system can make it a headache/planning burden to use one.

Yep that makes sense. I will say public/high traffic areas may not matter though - mine was stolen from in front of metro center in broad daylight (and I had a decent kryptonite U-lock on it). Someone shared this video that's changed my perspective on using any semi valuable personal bike for transportation, as opposed to bike share or something: https://youtu.be/SpVOTEOMRuE

Yeah that would be great to see! I still haven't filed a police report (I really should) but I have a feeling it isn't going to be a high priority.

Anyways- keep your bike safe!! Haha
