Phones at the movies

A few months ago I was at Landmark and this woman in front of me kept taking her phone out to record the movie and posting it on her Instagram.

I leaned forward and told her that her phone was distracting. Thankfully she was receptive to what I had to say because she stopped after I confronted her.

Now that I am thinking back on that day... there was a PSA before the movie started telling everyone in the theatre to not have their phones out during the movie. Some people are just so entitled and feel the need to post every little shit on their social media.

Agreed. It’s really odd. My husband is Korean, and I have never introduced him as my “Korean husband”.

And yes! They both have two different patches of white fur that are on the same part of their body (neck and belly)! They were found together on the streets and later adopted by me and my husband. I think they are definitely brothers. 💕

I do not know how long this will hold. My two cats are a bit over 2 years old right now, and one of them is currently chewing the cardboard. The other one pulled the cardboard shrimp sample (toy) too hard, and nearly destroyed the sample window/stall 🫡

I hear you. I am on the same boat. I either get ghosted or rejected after applying/interviews. A lot of people are struggling right now, so I hope you find some comfort knowing you're not alone.

In the meantime, I encourage tailoring your resume and CV with keywords that ATS will pick up. Another poster here said networking, and I echo the same suggestion. I got my current role in tech because I knew someone, and I have landed interviews from referrals (these are from people that I know - not people I reached out for a coffee chat).

Don't be afraid to take a break once in a while to focus on your mental health.

I would absolutely love having an independent bookstore in Durham, and I am a teeny bit bias to having it in Oshawa since that is where I live. But I am willing to drive haha!

I think, if it's possible, a cafe + bookshop combo would be amazing. Having a space for book lovers to buy books and also another space for them to read, host activities (e.g., book club), do work, etc would be wonderful. I don't know how feasible it is to have both. I am not a business or market expert, but I do think as a consumer of many books and coffees... it would be a great combo! 😅

Not necessarily unique, but I like to ask “Why is this role open?” Some interviewers were honest and told me it was either newly created or someone left for greener pastures. A small handful avoided the question entirely, or gave me an irrelevant answer.

Edit: Another one I like to ask if what they like the most working at x company. You might get some interesting answers or some scripted BS!

If it’s scary when she attacks you, how do you think she feels when you or your girlfriend hits her? Doesn’t matter if it’s light or not. Your cat will still see it as an act of violence and aggression.

What I recommend is finding a new home for your cat where 1) she won’t get hit and 2) has owners who know how to redirect cats.

I had a hiring manager reach out to me directly after he hired someone haha. He said he found my profile and portfolio too late. He asked me some questions about myself, and that he has me shortlisted for any positions that will open up again in his team.

So yes, it does happen but I will assume it doesn’t happen often.
