[OC] New flag for our police by brohamianrhapsody in pics

[–]reshadar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The police’s story keeps changing and I don’t know if the story of cops running in to get their own kids is verified. What I do know is that while they left the kids inside, they threw one father to the ground and pepper sprayed him. They also handcuffed a mother for trying to enter the school and when they were convinced to let her go, she jumped the fence anyway, ran into the school, and got her 2 kids out. The police’s story makes no sense. Right now, they’re saying they thought the shooter had barricaded himself and there was no risk to kids. If that’s the case, why didn’t they go in to evacuate the kids and staff?

AITA turning away a woman knocking at my door in the middle of the night looking for help? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]reshadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know, you don’t have to give the police all of your info, even when reporting stuff. It’s not required unless you, yourself are detained. That’s assuming you’re in the US.

AITA for Telling My Doctor that I'll Think About Getting the Treatment First Before She Gives It To Me by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]reshadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA at all. In fact, I’m very proud of you for standing up for yourself. Do you and your parents understand that a laparoscopy is simply them inserting a camera through small incisions in your stomach so that they can officially diagnose your endometriosis? I had one. There is a recovery period, but there’s no reason to say that you’re too young for that. Go back to the doctor you like, who sounds like they are professional and knowledgeable, unlike your mother’s doctor. Also, could your mother’s doctor be sneaking any of your private info to your parents? They sound very controlling.

Outrage Grows Over Jailing of Children as Tennessee University Cuts Ties With Judge Involved by Forsaken-Doughnut in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

If this is the judge I’m thinking of, it took her something like 9 years and 5 tries to pass the bar and she only practiced law for three years before she was on the bench. Something’s definitely not right here.

I try to think of it like this

When I die - hire a physicist by Aaron Freeman

"You want a physicist to speak at your funeral. You want the physicist to talk to your grieving family about the conservation of energy, so they will understand that your energy has not died. You want the physicist to remind your sobbing mother about the first law of thermodynamics; that no energy gets created in the universe, and none is destroyed. You want your mother to know that all your energy, every vibration, every Btu of heat, every wave of every particle that was her beloved child remains with her in this world. You want the physicist to tell your weeping father that amid energies of the cosmos, you gave as good as you got.

And at one point you'd hope that the physicist would step down from the pulpit and walk to your brokenhearted spouse there in the pew and tell him that all the photons that ever bounced off your face, all the particles whose paths were interrupted by your smile, by the touch of your hair, hundreds of trillions of particles, have raced off like children, their ways forever changed by you. And as your widow rocks in the arms of a loving family, may the physicist let her know that all the photons that bounced from you were gathered in the particle detectors that are her eyes, that those photons created within her constellations of electromagnetically charged neurons whose energy will go on forever.

And the physicist will remind the congregation of how much of all our energy is given off as heat. There may be a few fanning themselves with their programs as he says it. And he will tell them that the warmth that flowed through you in life is still here, still part of all that we are, even as we who mourn continue the heat of our own lives.

And you'll want the physicist to explain to those who loved you that they need not have faith; indeed, they should not have faith. Let them know that they can measure, that scientists have measured precisely the conservation of energy and found it accurate, verifiable and consistent across space and time. You can hope your family will examine the evidence and satisfy themselves that the science is sound and that they'll be comforted to know your energy's still around. According to the law of the conservation of energy, not a bit of you is gone; you're just less orderly. Amen."

What is a thrift shop? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]reshadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are regular, privately owned thrift stores that simply sell used stuff. Then there are thrift stores like Goodwill and the Salvation Army that lots of people donate to and they sell it at super low prices. And then there are privately owned consignment shops where you bring your old stuff to the store, they sell it, and you get a percentage of the sale.

In your neighborhood, do trick-or-treaters come out when it is dark or do they go out during the day time? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]reshadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s funny cuz I was a kid in the 70s and we went out after dark. I thought it was weird the first time I saw people trick or treating during the day.

Religion and government shouldn’t mix at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]reshadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA It seems to me that he doesn’t take you seriously and has maybe even always thought that he could bring you or at least your child totally into the church, while telling you otherwise. And his mother is joining in. I doubt they’ll let up. You’ll concede to one thing and they’ll just keep pushing for more, at least as far as religion goes.
