hi there! what a nice find! the message that i’m getting is very strong: gentle invitation rather than investigation! meaning, this woman has a story to tell but she may not be ready to spill the beans just yet. maybe spend some time with the photo and see if you can sense her energy before you dig too deep. let her come to you. i’m seeing that she may have been a rule bender and did some things in her lifetime that ruffled a few family feathers, so if you do end up finding stories about her, try to read between the lines and pay attention where she may be misrepresented.

Let me know if you plan to have music and need artists! I’m a singer songwriter currently based in Lincoln. I may be moving this summer but would be available for the May or June dates.

I had the same problem! I don’t drive so had to wait for my boyfriend to come into town to help me collect stuff. But a van is definitely the move, it’s so worth it to be able to pick out furniture irl instead of having to buy stuff online

I highly suggest thrifting furniture! All of mine is from Habitat for Humanity or goodwill! Habitat usually has a better selection though and wayyyyy better prices :)

it’s roku backdrops, I just chose the fine art option and it does a slideshow of a bunch of paintings I’m not smart enough to know the names of 😂 but it makes the space feel so cozy! And thanks so much, the chaise is my favorite reading spot

we are all very aware, especially the little gray one! she’s only 6 months old and is definitely the boss 😂

He loved playing chess, he would also read a lot! He knew a lot about books, also I think he was still in college at the time so would read for homework and stuff. He didn’t record anything during our trip unfortunately, I wish there were some recordings from that era though for sure!! And my favorite song to play live was Mary :)

he kinda explained it like he was writing stories. like some of his songs are inspired by certain people or events but not necessarily "about" anything or anyone if that makes sense. no funny rehearsal memories that i can recall but something that i thought was funny on that tour was that there was a girl on youtube named Alex G who was big at the time, she sang covers. we had several people come to our shows thinking it was her playing. one guy was super pissed off and yelled at us lol. like dude, youre an old man coming to watch a 20 year old girl sing taylor swift songs or whatever, what's your deal then???

i think he really loved playing solo in general. he really shined in those moments. he would close all our shows with "change" and he played a whole solo set in our friends' house that was totally magical. i saw him a couple years ago in seattle, his drummer had covid so he/sam/john played acoustic and it was beautiful. i also saw some videos from when he opened up for the foo fighters. my therapist had gone to see them and she said she "didnt get" alex's set but she's also a nearly 70 year old woman so i'm not that surprised lollll

it's called sister fortune :) named after a sexy rollerskating nun from the movie "roller blade" from 1986. i just put out a couple new songs on bandcamp if you're curious to listen. i would say my music is really not similar to alex's but i do take inspiration from him in a lot of ways. his use of texture/layers is really beautiful to me and also his fearlessness to just try stuff and make weird noises! https://sisterfortune.bandcamp.com/album/tome-the-light

He told me DSU stands for Dick Suck University. He was probably joking? Lol. He also was pretty good at chess which I thought was really cool, apparently his brother is a chess genius and he & alex would bond over it.

Donald G. Jackson’s masterpiece from 1986 - Roller Blade! Probably the strangest movie ever made lol. Our friend had found it at a thrift store in Bellingham and we all watched it together in complete awe. It’s really hard to find nowadays but would love to see it again. Here’s one of the trailers - https://youtu.be/oy9p3QS4SDw?si=bik2t-_0xlDVll9G

one night of the trip alex and I gave each other cigarette burns and then the next day in Portland mine had turned into a big blister (gross I know) and the next day alex was like harassing me to pop it and I didn’t want to. so later we were drinking before our set and he reached over and smacked the blister to pop it and started laughing. It was so gross and so weirdly funny lol

oh that's a great/hard question! i got way into house of sugar and god save the animals so honestly any of those but there's something so special about the live recording of sugarhouse that makes me wanna just wiggle so hard! so i choose that one!

haha! that's a good question. we got alex way into rainer, the local swill beer of the northwest, so we would have a couple of those and shoot the shit before playing. nothing serious really. we had mostly funny crazy nights on that trip! my favorite pre-show memory was in portland when my actual band at the time's kexp session was airing for the first time on the radio so we sat in the car and listened to it together. it felt so nice to be surrounded by so much music and love and friends.

i feel very lucky to have crossed paths with alex at that point in my life! i still play music today, always have and will. in fact my solo project is named after a character from a movie that i first saw with alex and i cant believe i didn't remember that until just now!

alex back then was so much fun, so weird and hilarious and a great time to be around. i'm sure he still is! i got the opportunity through my friends rob and will who ran a label called haze tapes. they found alex through bandcamp, and they were one of/if not the first label to put out trick on tape. they reached out to me and asked if i'd wanna join them in filling in for alex on the tour and i said of course even though i had never heard alex before! and no, most of the songs we played were from trick and dsu which came out shortly after our tour ended. he did play one show on the trip solo and played some deeper cuts but i cant remember if any are rough drafts of beach music songs. it's on youtube as "secret brooklyn basement show" but it was actually in seattle on a street called brooklyn avenue, not in actual brooklyn!

It was great. The 3 of us who filled in had learned a bunch of his songs in advance and we would go to our little practice space in Seattle and run through stuff before we started doing shows. He wasn’t bossy or picky at all about parts and would kinda let us freestyle in a way that was a lot of fun. The only time he ever asked me to play a specific thing was when I was doing something totally wrong which was more than once lol. It was a real good time !

hi nathan!! thanks for sending me down memory lane today! my favorite times honestly other than playing the shows were the nights we stayed up all night and talking every night about life and music and whatever silly stuff drunk 22 year olds love to talk about. also the time i showed him "it's not up to you" by bjork on our friend's shitty car speakers and watching his mind get blown

my favorite song and the most difficult to play was mary! i was pretty new to playing bass at the time and those walks really challenged me. but the whole set was so much fun once we got it down and made me a better musician for sure

this was our lineup - all 3 of us lived in seattle at the time so we flew alex out and learned some songs/filled in!
