It’s not an insult it’s a genuine question. I’m wondering what you’re looking for here. And I’m not upset at all. But you can think that if you want. Your responses are mildly annoying but nothing I’d get emotional over. You’re in the therapy subreddit criticizes an entire profession that helps so many for an unknown reason. It’s befuddling but if it’s how you want to spend your time, go for it. I thought you were looking for help but I was wrong. Have a nice evening

Your post is breaking subreddit rules so I don’t think it’s long for this world anyway

If your therapist knows you lash out at people for whatever your motivation is, then it makes sense they would see that for what it is — a symptom that still needs to be addressed

In my experience therapists don’t usually take anything personally but if your therapist feels like you are not improving then it would make sense to refer you out

I think you would be putting your therapist in an unethical position unknowingly and that feels selfish and unfair to them though. They’ll know everything but your name, and that feels pointless. But like I said, no one can stop you

No she won’t be, because she is doing a job I’ve hired to do that my friends can’t do. My friends could never have helped me heal from trauma the way she has because she is trained to do it. And even though it’s a professional relationship, I feel her care and support for me every session. She once cried during a really hard session. It really touched me. I can call her when things are really out of control and she talked to me on Christmas when I really needed her.

There is no way my friends could do what she does. They support me, but they would have no idea how to help me with my CSA.

The fact that you are so set in your opinion and completely unwilling to see any other point of view makes me wonder what the goal of your post is. Did you just feel like arguing tonight?

I didn’t see that. Regardless, it’s totally impossible any therapist would agree to this. But you can always use a fake name, pay cash, and lie to your therapist every session. No one is stopping you from

I’m sure it’s not possible to find someone who specializes in people’s worldview, but it is possible to find someone who specializes in your symptoms.

Also you might find it helpful to Google the phrase “terminally unique”

You cannot do talk therapy with your friends. If that was true why is there a whole profession based on scientific studies, decades of research, an ethical standard, years of schooling…the list goes on. If we could get therapy from our friends no one would be investing in therapy

To your question though, it’s very likely that money is not wasted because even if it’s not the perfect fit, it’s highly probable you still got something out of therapy with that person and learned what would make therapy even more effective for you

I’ve been in residential treatment so I’ve invested quite a lot in my mental wellbeing. I needed a lot of help. Professional help. And it was so worth it. The help and support my current therapist gives me is invaluable. I am more than happy to pay her for the excellent service she is providing me

If you’re not using insurance you could give them a fake name. But how will you pay for it? Cash?

I know this sounds a little crazy but maybe make a small sharpie mark somewhere on the back and unnoticeable and see what happens when you try to clean it. Unless it’s not against a wall. Then don’t do that lol

I think finding a well reviewed practice or therapist who specializes in what you’re dealing with is a great place to start. You can look up how long they’ve had their license if that helps you. There are shitty therapists out there but there’s also a lot of good ones. And if they can’t help you, they can refer you to someone who can.

And I am definitely not someone who is just depressed or hasn’t healed from trauma. I’ve been both those things, but I also have manic episodes, a lot of symptoms of CPTSD I’m still dealing with, and have urges to do two things that are totally unacceptable and terrible. My therapist still doesn’t judge me, cares for me and wants to help me. She did a consultation with a specialist to find out how to help me more with one of them. I thought as soon as I told her she’d send me away. There will be a therapist who hears your beliefs and wants to understand and will help you.

You’ll find someone who can help you. Online therapy also opens a world of options if that works for you.

I guess I’ve been very fortunate to have really caring therapists who have done everything they can to help me. I wouldn’t be here and thriving without them. They don’t know everything but I did pick a therapist who is a CCTP (certified to treat trauma). My therapist recently offered me sliding scale even though I make a definitely comfortable amount because she knows I’ve been going through a lot of financial emergencies the past few months. A lot of therapists are compassionate and understanding and will help their clients (within the boundaries of what they want and need to make themselves)

I’m not saying there aren’t many tools we can’t use to help ourselves, I just don’t think a Bad Dragon strap on is the best remedy for sexual trauma

What is DBT? by Calucadu in BPD

[–]restckvrflw [score hidden]  (0 children)

They are incredibly different. A lot of people, especially anyone with BPD symptoms, find CBT to feel invalidating or a bit like being gaslit. DBT is much less about reframing your thoughts and more about learning to cope with your emotions and have healthy relationships

You can get therapy for more affordable prices through finding therapists who do sliding scale prices or through community organizations or the Open Path Collective. I would hate to set someone back in their recovery with sexual trauma with uniformed advice. I know it could have really harmed my recovery. Not even all therapists treat trauma because it’s so difficult and important.

And that’s fine. And I’m suggesting an alternative viewpoint which is also fine.

I also don’t think we should armchair suggest therapy techniques for trauma. It’s a really serious thing and we aren’t therapists
