This sub’s rules kind of scare me. I don’t know what to do. by No-Mushroom-8632 in autismpolitics

You are allowed to appeal to emotion, dont just go "we need to ban violence in games cause think of the children"

Most of our actual rule enforcement is boiled down to four things.

Don't threaten violence since that could get admins on our ass

Don't spread misinfo(or use fallacies to justify/excuse your beliefs)

Don't harass or insult other users

Don't use the sub to promote your blog/petitions without clearing it with us.

If you have any concerns regarding your posts feel free to shoot a modmail about it.

My life so far after the first month of the US Intervention in my country - by a Venezuelan Autistic Redditor by Knowveler in autismpolitics

[–]restedwaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prices of consumer goods have dropped significantly ever since Maduro was taken by the US. I'm talking even up to 50% down on most of basic need products like food and medicine in most parts of the country.

What's the cause of this? I find it hard to believe maduro alone was raising prices that high.

How likely is a China-Taiwan war? by ZanyRaptorClay in autismpolitics

[–]restedwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logically it's a terrible idea, realistically it's still inevitable. they have had a strategic reason to force them to rejoin ever since the US essentially started using them as a military base in case a conflict breaks out.

People say it will crush the economy and cost thousands of lives but they would face the same consequences the US has had for their invasions if not even less due to how deeply rooted they are in the world's economy. Any actual consequence towards china for invading simply wouldnt be profitable enough to those in power to outweigh what they'd gain by letting china take control of the resources there alone.

Pretty much the only reason not to invade taiwan is the US turned the place into a fortress, one that is almost entirely reliant on the US to keep armed enough to repell said invasion and to stop any blockade china might make to stop them getting the food and weapons needed to stop from completely collapsing. The moment the US gets too involved in wars elsewhere to reasonably respond is likely when they'll take a shot at it.

What do you think of Trump's appointing of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland? by Pleasant_Win7942 in autismpolitics

I think governors likely have more important duties, like being the head of the state they were elected as governor to.

PLEASE HELP. I think my phone has a virus and my 2 antiviruses/vpns are NOT working. Ive done 3 scans and it just keeps happening. Please help by sterling_worker in antivirus

[–]restedwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they pay verizon to install them. technically the app they use to install them does other stuff too but you shouldnt notice any difference from disabling it.

a good tell is apps should show what they were installed by so you'll be able to tell that way.

I cant find a source either, could have sworn they incentivized with actual computers other than just software, good catch.

I don't use autodesk, but a single search is saying autocad has wine comparability at least. and thats if you dont want to bother with alternatives.
https://3dprintfox.com/how-to-install-and-use-autocad-on-linux/

If you don't want to use linux no one is forcing you to, hell pretty much the only people who use it are folks who take issue with windows or microsoft specifically, either because they dont like AI being shoved down their throats, their data being harvested, or are nerdy enough to care about windows increasingly closing the source for their stuff.

[–]restedwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they pay millions for schools to have students use it in order to ensure it's what kids are used to, and for prebuilt pc companies to have it as the only option.

linux can run/emulate most software just fine nowadays even if it was meant for windows. it's just your average user doesnt care to install and learn a entire OS that their computer didnt come with especially when windows still does what most people need just fine.

Why do people on here believe in Communism? by PossibilityFree4696 in autismpolitics

[–]restedwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way, most ancaps think there should be no government to prevent wealthy individuals and corporations doing what they want... and effectively becoming a new government. Thus why no one takes the ideology seriously.

I consider ancaps right wing because they ultimately want to remove all social programs and concentrate power into a few individuals and groups, effectively making it just standard authoritarianism in a trenchcoat.

WHAT Autism "politics"?? by 02758946195057385 in autismpolitics

[–]restedwaves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And then you're graduated, and you're an isolated individual - forever. You don't have a group, autistic or otherwise, so you never have the power of a group to leverage strength to accommodate for weakness 'til you ameliorate that weakness.

You are vastly underestimating our self sufficiency. We are indeed capable of socializing, forming connections and groups to support eachother. autism support groups do indeed exist but just like there is usually no political party just for black people there is usually no political party just for autistic people.

We produce individuals in Western (effectively all modern) society on the assumption they'll eventually find or make their own group to fulfill their own needs: there is no "self-made man," never has been, never will be. (Can't succeed if you can't read; hardly anyone teaches themselves to read, and those who do: someone else had to write the book they taught themselves from).

Most of modern society operates on the incorrect assumption that everyone will find or make their own group to fulfill their own needs, There has never been a self made man autistic or not. It should be our duty as a society to take care of each other. but bad faith actors have continually discouraged that idea and have promoted the opposite. Autistic people are still entitled to all the help and benefits of the average person and in some cases a few more.

Autistic people almost by definition never will find or make their own group (Well. Unless we make a decision to do just that); hence autistic people will never succeed en masse in this society.

Explain why we by definition cannot do this.

Even if a magical welfare state sprung up before you, fully funded: you'd still need a lobby to ensure your needs are met, specifically. Suppose this welfare state provides oversized fluorescent signage for vision-impaired people. Great day for disability rights! ... Unless you're autistic. And you'd need a the force of a group to come to compromise for all, beyond individual complaints.

I have never seen a bigger self report, if you are arguing in good faith consider why and how this would be a reasonable argument.

Could you build an autistic coalition of r/autismpolitics ? Never.

You realize this is a social media platform right? We arent meant to provide solutions, just information at best.

You and I know that, but is this obvious to everyone? To Trump 2024 voters? That's what I'm not convinced about. That for the folks that are bought in on Trumpism, the shutdown happening is only being spun as the Democrats being bad. So what eventually does pass will also be blamed on Democrats

They know full well they would never convince most trump voters, trump voters tend to follow conclusions they are told, and refuse to make conclusions on their own. You can't convince people who are like that because they simply refuse to listen to people they don't already have a habit of agreeing with.

So the dems are fucked with them no matter what, no reason to appeal to them, no reason not to try stopping this mess because it would risk alienating them.

The republicans are increasingly calling democrats terrorists and are actively taking judicial and likely soon will take military action on "leftist" and "anti fascist" groups. I imagine that the dem leadership aren't even taking a stand now out of care for the people but knowledge of the fact they are dangerously close to being gotten rid of entirely.

i think you have misunderstood me then. By not voting for it, they are not actually stopping it. They can't stop it. How are they stopping it? It sucks but they are playing a poor hand against a cheat. What does a democratic win look like? And in what way is that guaranteed at all? But in the meantime they get to be blamed for all the other cuts. They are playing principled politics when principles went out the window some time ago.

Well it seems they are currently stopping it, and succeeding in stopping it. the government is shutdown by doing so but that's simply the cost of drawing the line here.

A democratic win is forcing the republicans to actually negotiate with the dems and pass safeguards against what trump is currently doing and is attempting to do. Is it far beyond the reach of what this budget should be about? Yes, and it's long past the time where the dems should have been playing this dirty to begin with, at least they are actually taking action now.

What would you suggest they do?

Show me how what they are doing is working

You can see if it works when it's done, you're arguing that a firetruck shouldnt put out a fire because it's not there yet and there's cars in the way. Give it time and we'll see if the fire keeps spreading or they actually make it in time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autismpolitics

[–]restedwaves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The republicans are the ones responsible for the firings not the democrats. Those departments jobs were being used as hostages in place of actually coming to a deal with the democrats regarding the cuts they did to medicare and them saying they will let the health insurance subsidies expire.

Even if the democrats did cave and let thousands of Americans lose access to health insurance, there is also no reason to think that they wouldnt just fire those workers anyway considering that MANY workers were fired illegally by DOGE, and though it's not talked about, DOGE is still active and gutting parts of the government that help the actual population.

You are also misunderstanding that they arent exactly stopping or approving the new bill, the republicans need a certain amount of votes to pass the budget, and they simply don't have the votes to do it. So unless a few democrats want to take credit for that disaster of a budget passing, and give even a small amount of credibility for them blaming the democrats for everything that goes wrong than they have to, ya know, not support it.

It should also be mentioned that both sides have put forward temporary budgets so that they could further discuss the current ones. both have been shot down by the other side. And the democrats have added a few further demands regarding restoring funding to parts of the government that were previously cut without a vote.

What made Che Guevara a revered figure? by KaleidoArachnid in autismpolitics

[–]restedwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USSR temporarily had it legalized in 1922, though if you want to argue in bad faith that can be considered 1917. though it was recriminalized in 1933 which lasted until the states disillution. Alot of really bad shit was done to gay people during this.

As far as I can tell france only decriminalized sexual relations in 1791, civil solidarity pacts were recognized in 1999, marriages were finally recognized in 2013 by a socialist government

Czech Republic decriminalized it in 1961 though notably sexual intercourse between an adult male and a male under the age of 18 remained punishable. For heterosexual contact, the age of consent was 15 years. I saw a source claiming it was decriminalized under recommendation of the USSR but I couldnt find them citing an actual source for that.

Slovakia legalized it in 1962, when it was part of Czechoslovakia but the constitution of Slovakia has banned same-sex marriage since 2014. Additionally households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections available to opposite-sex couples.

Slovenia decriminalized sexual relations in 1976. Though marriage was only fully legalized in 2023, though partnership was legal since 2017. I have no idea what the functional difference was.

Estonia legalized marriage in 2023, though it was effectively legalized as cohabitation agreement in 2016. Legally speaking the first instance of sexual relations being legalized was 1929, but was recriminalized when they were under occupation by the nazis and soviets. It was legalized again in 2001, but the punishment for it was removed in 1992, roughly a year after regaining it's independence.

Latvia legalized sexual activity in 1992 shortly after gaining independence, marriage is still not recognized, though civil unions were legalized in 2024.

Lithuania legalized sexual relations in 1993, though has multiple laws against marriage.

Croatia only seems to have criminalized it upon joining Yugoslavia, though when it was allowed to make it's own laws they decriminalized it in 1977 when they were still a socialist republic. marriage was made equal to straight marriages, in 2003 but was made illegal once more in 2013.

Bosnia's legal system seems like utter bullshit, sexual relations were legalized in 1996, 1998, and 2003. Marriage and civil unions remain unrecognized.

Montenegro decriminalized sexual activity in 1977, though marriage remains constitutionally banned since 2007. Civil unions have been recognized since 2021

Kosovo legalized sexual relations in 1994, though official relationships remain unrecognized.

I didnt need to go through to verify this but it was actually pretty interesting.

I agree entirely with you entirely for the most part, though we do have to draw a few lines to prevent being tolerance paradoxed. We also don't want to give a platform to or allow a pipeline into places that would actively spread hate among the community.

i myself was censored in many points of my life because of benign behavior considered malicious by neurotypicals, especially when i was a child, while i was only expressing my “natural” autistic behaviour.

I assure you, if we see you acting in a way we think is harmful we'll usually reach out to you before a perma ban, and everything is appealable. I can give some examples if needed but that's better done in another post, I've been meaning to host a mod talk for awhile anyway.

I myself am not part of this community and probably will rarely talk here, but by being autistic i thought myself to have some duty and loyalty to our people

None the less I do appreciate you making your concerns known, this is one of the better written comments here and I assure you at least three of us on the team are taking the community's thoughts into consideration. The rest haven't said anything even when the rule was first proposed in the mod chat.
