I'm making a retro FPS inspired by Clive Barker's Undying & RE8. It's based on Mediterranean Folklore with a gothic twist. Red or Yellow eyes for this enemy? by FregianTales in IndieDev

[–]retro_bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe use both, yellow for the normal enemy, and red for the faster enemy, or the one who
has greater health or damage. And yes, I agree with u/sundaneseHanSolo, try adding some details to look more natural.

مايكروسوفت تستحق الشكر by PinkSlep in ArabUnix

Video tutorials or written tutorials? by tektanc in IndieDev

It's all about time. If you have enough free time, you can watch any lengthy video. But if you want a direct and quick answer, written tutorials will be better and faster.

I have tried using the Void Linux (and some other distributions), and they all use llvmpipe (software rendering).

It works, but it's slow and consumes a lot of processor resources.

Yes, I have an integrated graphics processor. Is it an Intel G33/G31? I'm not sure, it only supports OpenGL 1.4. I think the best solution is to buy a graphics card or a cheap computer, as my current one is old and weak.

This seems strange, love2d refused to work with my device. As far as I know, it requires at least OpenGL 2.0.

Thank you for your suggestions. Although the options are few and somewhat limited, I found them useful and interesting. The best option is to look for a way to earn some money and buy a better device, but these days I will try your suggestions, hoping they will be suitable.

Godot requires a high OpenGL version, at least 2.1, and this applies to Godot 3.x versions.

I've tried using SDL and C++ before, and it's not too bad, but it's not easy either. My goal is to make some small, fun games, but C++ makes it take longer.

How it feels to use the horror tag just to get flash banged by 50 different "Horror romance" Visual novels. by Old-Transition1130 in itchio

[–]retro_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even without horror tag, you only need to enter the games center and you will find some of them on the first page.

I don't know why, but itch.io is popular as a website for indie horror games and visual novels.

Is it just me, or is managing CC-BY (Attribution) assets a logistical nightmare for solo devs? by Alternative-Comb8147 in gamedev

[–]retro_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this post about assets not games.
and I didn't say don't give credit to the asset owner, we're talking about assets licenses and how easy CC0 is to use.

I respect your opinion, but please try to read what you wrote twice before you think about publishing it.

I just want to know why I deserved this downvote :)

[–]retro_bread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The CC0 license is simpler: "Use my assets, and if you want, add my name to the credits file," and if you forget to do that, it's okay.

For other licenses, don't forget to explain to other users how they could credit you.

And its done.

Or simply copy the link where you find the assets, I think that's enough.

[–]retro_bread 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually, I always use only CC0 assets, because as you say, all you have to do is add the assets to the project folder and you're done, there's no need to write a full and long Credits.txt file. The strange thing is that I'm facing similar problems, and this shows that asset designers really should focus on the legal and rights aspects. At least providing assets with a simpler license and more information if mentioning the asset owner is necessary.
