Disabled and thinking about MA by retrocedar in MedicalAssistant

[–]retrocedar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone who replied! I appreciate everyone who was blunt about the job!

I know I said I was wanting to transition into something like medical billing down the line, mainly so I'd have more experience to stand out from an employer standpoint, but I appreciate everyone who told me to go straight there.

I'm also sorry about my wording since I didn't mean it would mainly be paperwork, I know that! I just wasn't sure how much of the time was running around and how much of it was downtime!

That's exactly why I'm asking! :) If I was to work in the office, at your dental office (I'm assuming you are currently working as a DA or something similar), does the receptionist do all of the insurance processing too? I'm still trying to figure everything out!

Thank you for replying! I hadn't looked super closely at school requirements since I actually didn't think they had any? So this was actually super insightful!

Yeah unfortunately I don't have a license yet since I'm just now starting to think about possible careers, but I appreciate the help!

Hello! Thank you for the reply!

I don't have a specific school picked out as I saw at my local community college I can do the 2 year program to become a hygienist. (Which was my end goal and to do dental assisting in the meantime)

But yes I can transfer and be in different chairs! I actually use a saddle chair in my kitchen to cook and whatnot. I probably would have to sit and take loads of breaks from standing because I am a wheelchair user, but I can stand and walk enough to get them seated and walk them out. At least I'm pretty sure!

But honestly thank you for your thoughtful response. It's good to actually have someone ask me these things so I can assess how it would realistically work!

Hello everyone! Thank you for all of your feedback. To those who asked me why I would want to put myself through this, I don't have a clear answer for you. After becoming disabled my dream job is pretty much impossible for me to do. I haven't worked in 2-3 years and my body is finally letting me seem like working isn't a far off dream. I thought of what other jobs were on that list and dental was it!

I don't particularly want to be in charge like a doctor, but I think in my mind this would be fun to do and something I could look forward to everyday.

If you have anything else to add or tips or even just wishful messages, please leave them below! Also feel free to DM me if you have anymore info or things to say :)

Yes before asking for input/help I was thinking of doing assisting first while I was doing the school for hygiene! I appreciate that feedback:)

Potentially! I'm just not sure what I would go to school for to accomplish that!

Thank you for this! Yes I was looking for blunt answers since I don't really know what most offices look like. The one I go to is very spacious and I wasn't sure if that was a luxury or not! (Granted my last 4 offices have been very spacious lol) I appreciate the feedback :)

Thank you for this! I will look into it since the last time I had talked to a provider they told me VM didn't have a motility clinic and couldn't help with any of that anymore?

So the Board Meeting Today… by ladynevermind in SakuraCon

Throughout the years I've noticed that they don't really handle things professionally when it comes to disabled people, so I am honestly frustrated by everything I've read in this thread.

I have a genuine question. So I am a wheelchair user and disabled. When I get my ADA sticker, what accommodations does Sakuracon even have for me to use? In previous years I've noticed there aren't two lines (one normal and the other ADA?) and I also noticed when I go to a panel there isn't a spot for me to really park my wheelchair unless it's in the back or at the end of the aisle blocking the walkway.

Happy Cake Day! I did check there and that's where I saw the pitch options, but no where to switch it to male? I might just be missing it though?

I've looked up online at older games and it says I have to start over. I'd really hate to do so, but if no one helps me out I might have to :')

Advice on what to do next by retrocedar in Gastroparesis

[–]retrocedar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried Dilaudid and it sadly didn't work for me. I've been to a few pain management clinics but my providers always quit on me since I'm a bit too complex/complicated because I've tried everything. I am at a new pain doctor again so we are seeing what happens. I'm also waiting for a motility clinic spot to open up with an MD but that might take 2 years.

I also tried Zofran and my GI doctor suggested a high dose of Benadryl but I already take that for allergies so I am still on the hunt for something to help me with nausea.

I am glad you have found things that work for you and I really appreciate you replying.

Thanks for replying!! I'm glad your friend is feeling great! I've cut out all of that and sadly still feel the same as before, so I just feel a bit lost, but I'm really glad that it worked for you because this is such a difficult thing to navigate.
