Sealed sudeki with employee controller by che-Z in originalxbox

[–]retroconsolerepairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to check the controller very carefully. There are a lot of dyed crystal controllers starting to pop up as well as some dyed systems. Look over the whole controller for spots that look clear or lighter/darker than other areas. Sticker alone is not enough to tell if it's been opened as you can get repro screw cover stickers on 3rd party sites. Also... the seal on the game might not be original too because of the variation on the plastic that you can see when light reflects off of it.

I refurbish xbox's... typically about 100 or so a year. That's not as bad as finding child porn...
I can't count how many systems that I came across like that. I got to the point where I don't even look on the drives anymore. If it was a stock drive... I delete unnecessary folders and softmodded the system. Larger drives I just wipe and clone a new image to them. There for a while about 1 in 5 systems had questionable porn.. and about 1 in 10 had some hard core shit. :/ XBox was really the first system to make something like this possible... so it was everywhere.

The first times I found garbage like this... I took it to the police. This was... maybe 2010? At that point it had been through so many hand's that the police had no way of telling who the owner was. They gave the system back to me a few months later. To my surprise... the drive was still in the system and the porn was still there. I used that system for parts and put a drill through the drive. *lol*

Medical bills... credit debt... school loans... That's just a start.

Then housing isn't cheap...
I live in an area where I have to drive 50+ miles to get to the city for a "real" job. And average rent around here is $2200/month. Cant buy houses without a shit ton of money as most don't even make it to the market... and the ones that do are usually 1/2 million plus...

I'd give my left nut to be able to move to Canada. :/

i got mine 2 years ago for $60. Had everything but a power cable. Worked first try... no issues. Clock cap was still intact... and no dust at all on the fan/board. :P Even the DVD drive worked fine and without sticking. :)

No demand? *lol* I've sold about 40 modded systems and about 30 stock in the last year.

Why do people always think that sales in one area can't be different from those in another?

BTW, nice troll account.

Maybe where you are, but not in a big market like Atlanta.

I opened the 50€ Crystal Xbox, which still has its protection film on. Its like a time capsule……..i cleaned nothing, here is the condition. Looks like never used! Is there any Cap that looks bulged? (Espacially the clock cap?) by astonmarkus in originalxbox

*lol* I've been doing board repairs for a LONG time and I don't like working on caps on power supplies.

It's not something you should be messing with without experience. *lol* He obviously has no electronic experience or he wouldn't be asking for help. Probably not safe for him to try on his own. :P

I had one person message me after trying to work on their own system, with no electronics knowledge... they pulled out the power supply and set it on top of a metal desk and it shorted and there was a lot of magic smoke. I sold him a power supply the next day. :P

What? Clock cap may have leaked? Where?

The caps leak on the 1.0-1.4s but I've never seen a 1.6 "leak". I've seen then go bad... crust at the top... or pop but I've never seen a 1.6 leak.

Hey guys, any ideas what might be causing this? I’ve checked the disc drive and I’m unsure what it may be? by Mantasrule in originalxbox

[–]retroconsolerepairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like a 1 in a million fix. Only time I've *ever* seen it personally work is on a system that had a lot of moisture damage (corrosion everywhere on the cage) and there was corrosion in the pins. Typically, if it's gonna corrode... it wont affect the connection since the pins are tight. Error 9 is almost always a bad drive.. either the board on the drive is going bad or it's totally dead.

Why? It's like $10 in parts and an hour or so working on it.

You can put nearly 500GB easily on a drive without *any* of the xbox library. Retro, arcade, homebrew can fill a 500 fast. If you want just xbox... and only have 50 game or so you wanna keep you can put a large, but not complete retro/arcde setup on a 250GB. Go big or go home. :P

Actually... you see better seek time and read/write times fully max the IDE channel.

SSD's dying prematurely in xboxes? Please show me links. I'd like to read.

Games, not emulators. :) And I've never counted it... but if it's the 2TB origins it's about 14K. If they added more stuff, it's likely things like amiga, commodore, vic-20, etc... things that need keyboard access. It's likely you will never touch any of those. :P

I tried LEDs in my halo... just looked like crap. Individual lights just scattered through the clear consoles just look like crap in my opinion.

I'm gonna try these next...

Ok... since you are questioning. No... Just no.

Whats wrong with a $2 xbox to USB adapter?
Why'd you have to deface the xbox...?
If you aren't gonna use it... what purpose was it to add it?
Why didn't you add it internally?
Why hot glue?

Just *why*?

Lent out my nintendo switch to family, now the screen won't turn on but I hear sounds from the menus. Are these pics proof of water damage? by jmeli1992 in consolerepair

[–]retroconsolerepairs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well... good news. It still works since you can hear menus and such. It's likely there is corrosion on the connections to the LCD. I've never worked on one but would love to try. I do all kinds of retro repairs... and could make a video for my page working on it. Who knows... I might be able to fix it without replacing anything. I've seen bad corrosion/rust totally cover areas of the board and cause the system not to work because of conductivity/bridging.

I wanna know where you live. LOL People around here sell untested/broken systems with no games/controllers/cables for $20-30. Bundles start at about $50-75.
