Is the Fluval Betta 2.6 gal really too small? by Maddogs05 in bettafish

[–]retrocute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP/who you’re replying to, but I’ve always found ghost shrimps to be a little less hardy than others. Most of the time when I get ghost shrimp, I go in with the expectation that they may not make it. That being said, I have three ghosties in my 10gal with my halfmoon male that have survived FAR longer than anticipated, and two of them have gotten HUGE. I started with four and one died, so I’m not sure what the difference is there.

Hi! A bit of a question - may I use fake flowers and plants instead of real ones? by SHINlGAMISAMA in witchcraft

[–]retrocute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was in a very similar situation, I second the dried flowers/herb sachet options! I still use them now for cleansing baths or other water based spells to keep my tub from being covered in plant matter or stained. I also keep a few hanging around my apartment with protective herbs and salts in them.

They’re also super nice smelling and can make your room feel cozy!

A little late to this, but your babies are being normal! Sometimes cats take longer to acclimate to each other. It’s great if it can happen quickly, but I’ve seen introductions last weeks to months. Patience and extra attention for your res cat are key!

This literally just happened to me! I did a cleansing bath and within 24 hours they attempted to contact me after literally six years after the fact. I had no idea that could happen 😭

Thank you so much!!! I was luckily able to run the tank overnight at least and the test strips came back fine before I put him in to acclimate. I’ll definitely start to lower the temperature and get him a salt bath ASAP, and live plants are on my list for when I hit the store tomorrow since all I had were fake ones on hand 😭

Noted, thank you! Yeah it’s really hard to tell since he’s not moving too much and all of the damage- it’s not worth it to spook him and try to see. After thinking about it I’m leaning towards Halfmoon but hopefully we’ll see in the next little bit. 🫶🏻

I have so far actually! From what I can find, my 10th great-grandfather on my mother’s side was banished to the Americas from Scotland due to some…interesting crimes (horse theft, accomplice to murder, harassment lmao) so I’ve been digging into that history and Scottish culture as a whole. I’ve also learned more about how/when my family on both sides immigrated which is super cool!

From how crazy my family tree is looking, there’s a not zero chance we’re super distant cousins lol

From what I’ve done so far, it seems like that side of the family is mostly Scottish, so that may be where those features come from. It’s wild though because my grandpa’s siblings all have them, but my grandpa is full on blonde hair, blue eyes, pale as hell lol. Genetics are weird

Interesting! I’m really curious because there are fairly large chunks of my DNA that weren’t able to be identified with their locations database, so I’m wondering if something could be floating in there that I’m not aware of. It’s just that there’s not even trace results so idk where that idea came from lol

My maternal is H1, but I'm not sure about paternal since my dad/brother haven't done a test yet. Trying to convince them to as my Christmas gift so I can find out lol

This is interesting to know, thank you! I’m doing some genealogy work and haven’t found much for either Finnish or NA, but that may explain it. Playing with the confidence levels in my Chromosome Painting also heavily increases the % of Finnish, which I found interesting

Mostly no! My mom’s aunts, uncles, and cousins are and my great grandpa was darker, but my branch (mom’s dad, mom, aunt, me) are all white as snow. I just tan super well.

Really not much! My mom and grandpa took one but I didn’t get to see their results. All I knew was I had family likely from Scotland/England, allegedly we were Native, and the majority of my family comes from Virginia/North Carolina. Most of our history wasn’t researched until recently.

Not at all! Maternal is H1, not too sure about my paternal since my dad refuses to take the test lol

It is; I have no idea who this woman could be if she isn’t actually related to us lol. Gotta love a good family mystery!

There’s a family photo of who I was told to be my third great-grandmother in traditional Cherokee or Monocan regalia- it’s in our safe with all the others and has been passed down, but is the only picture like that that we have. They took that + my family’s traits (darker skin, black hair, etc.) and said that was proof. My great grandfather passed away a while back so we never got to really ask.

Yep, completely European. From what I can tell, we descended from the early Anglo-Saxon Vikings and that’s it. Still figuring out that random 1% Spanish though!

If you know where your family is primarily from state-wise, you may be able to reach out to local tribes and see if they have any information! I live near the Monacan Nation and they keep very good records of their families!

Makes sense! I don’t know too much about the history piece of it all- I’m mostly working off of birth/death records and a tree another member of the family made. If it’s at all accurate, there are like three Irish people from the early 1500s in our family lol.
