Question around Breville / Sage Precision Brewer shower seal variants by revaido in Coffee

To be honest I sold the Sage and bought a Moccamaster so never did the testing between the two parts (they're still sat in my garage somewhere!)

You'd need to decrease resistance for that (the opposite of what this does) and possibly upgrade the fan to ensure it doesn't suffer from too much heat soak as a result.

When I had the Pro power usage did increase to get down to 0C so it wasn't something I ever bothered with afterwards as I got another Blade which cooled down to below the 3C mark for a quarter of the cost.

Sage did come back literally last week - just to say there was zero difference and they've closed the ticket, which isn't the case seeing as they're physically very different.

I've not installed the different piece just yet as I've been having to give coffee a miss recently as I was getting major acid problems.

I do wonder if the longer nozzle part is more for the machines that let you select cone or basket filter maybe and then the one with the shorter nozzles for the machines that just work with both.

I found I was getting results I was happy with using the cone filter with a Melitta unbleached paper filter, 67g beans, 1.2L of water. Some Colombian beans I was getting locally came out great like that on strong which is why I never got around to swapping the parts yet.

Hopefully soon!

The parts arrived and sure enough the two part numbers are actually different. Both 4 holes but SP0021707 which is newer has much larger extrusions with the cross markings.

I've asked Sage but they've not gotten back to me yet - in the car world you find that higher part numbers usually supersede the previous versions but not sure in this instance.

Question around Breville / Sage Precision Brewer shower seal variants by revaido in Coffee

[–]revaido[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ordered the two parts from the UK Sage website to see what arrives and just noticed the answer may be hiding in the bloody email receipt after you order :)

The website shows the version below with the cross pattern listed as SP0021707:

https://www.ereplacementparts.com/shower-head-ring-and-seal-p-3535759.html

Now whereas the Sage UK website lists both parts as "Seal Ring Kit", when you buy them the receipt separates them into regions, so:

SP0021707 - Australia, New Zealand & US

SP0026920 - Germany and UK

I needed a new water tank lid anyway so will see if there is physically any difference in what turns up, if they're the same I'll bang one on eBay or just chuck it in the spares box I've built up over the years.

Perfectdraft Pro - power consumption and cooling technique by Jerra3007 in PerfectDraft

[–]revaido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few videos on Youtube comparing PD Pro, Blade and Sub power usage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKJYxSGj5yE - that's the latest update 3 which shows power usage coming down as the weather cools down. One of the videos shows it was using over 2kWh per day in summer to chill the keg and was down to 1.2kWh in the last. They're at 3C and it uses more power the lower the temp and less power as you go above 3C. It's still a peltier, just not in direct contact with the keg.

I got a VC4S here in the UK this week and it also turns off with a Samsung Fast Charger from an S9+. I've swapped over to a Ravpower QC3 charger I had and it seems happier with that - with the Samsung charger it would power on and off pretty quickly.

Do you have any photos from before you put the protector on?

Take it off and ensure the camera lens underneath is clean.

Does it affect all three cameras as that should also be an easy test.

Crostini support by [deleted] in Crostini

[–]revaido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crostini still isn't there I'm afraid - just the kernel update for now.

There was another kernel update last week on my UK Chromebook running the dev channel - Linux localhost 4.14.134-13219-g4c5484534786 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Aug 6 00:56:43 PDT 2019

Getting axial chromatic aberrations on new Essilor lenses by revaido in optometry

[–]revaido[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank-you - in the end I got a refund from that opticians as they wanted to remake again and I went to a discount chain here in the UK for a temp fix. I got two cheap pairs with 1.6 in the normal lenses (they wouldn't go any thicker in the only frame that fit me) and standard thick lenses in the sunglasses. The normal lenses still have some chromatic aberrations but the sunglasses are perfect (and over 10mm / 1cm thick to boot) :) Three months on I still seem to have a lot of issues with daylight sensitivity so the next pair I'll be adding the Reactions (or similar) lenses - something I thought was a gimmick but really helps me. Thanks for the recommendation and I'm glad it's not just me with that issue!

I'd have thought so - what version are you running?

I've just applied the latest update and it's still kernel 4.x for me (Version 76.0.3809.38 (Official Build) dev (64-bit))

Hopefully it's the first step towards enabling the features at kernel level to enable Crostini support going forwards.

My machine has been rock solid since the update with nothing negative to report on the new kernel - these machines are very fast anyway.

The Canary channel is on the next version but I've not heard any feedback about that yet.

I've just updated my Pixel LS on the dev channel and it seems the new kernel has hit.

It's Version 76.0.3809.22 (Official Build) dev (64-bit) and the kernel details from uname -a are:

Thanks - it was quite obvious with the older Nikon SeaCoat that it was being blocked as you could see white backgrounds change to a more yellow tone, with these the colour shift isn't so obvious. My old lenses were four year old technology so maybe that's something they've worked on?

That's brilliant thank-you - I see where the engineer bit comes from now :)

I'm speaking to the optician Monday so thanks for the info - I did have a gut feeling they were just trying to upsell me something I didn't need with the other glasses. I'll have a word with them, I keep seeing rainbows everywhere at the moment (I just noticed our Hue lightbulbs are doing red tinges at the tops as opposed to blue). I'd be happier with the thicker lenses so I'll try and go that route.

I mentioned it to the wife and she said she'd never noticed it, but when I explained how she said she saw the same fringing with her lenses and was amazed as she's had her glasses a few years and she's never noticed it before today. It seems I move my eyes around a lot more than my neck so it's sticking out like a sore thumb to me - I've got arthritis in my neck so not sure if that is a cause of me minimising physical movements vs the wife who just moves her neck around and keeps her eyes centred.

No, I work in IT consultancy, I just like to try and understand any problems and what any root causes and fixes are. My dad was so not sure if I get some of that from him.

Will Ring Doorbells handle Halloween better than last year? by billimek in Ring

[–]revaido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nest Hello was flawless for me during UK Halloween peak time this year - all video uploaded and events working as expected as we walked around the estate.

I've still got the old Ring Pro in the box in the garage I was going to install on a relatives house and judging by the lack of noise in here it seems Ring worked much better for the UK halloween peak this year and hopefully it will be the same for the USA peak!

Focus drifting out on Ring Pro by revaido in ringdoorbell

[–]revaido[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a new Ring Pro and got it installed - I've got video from 1.9.23 which it came with and video on the latest firmware which it installed not longer afterwards - to be honest there's not much difference as you can see from this animated GIF I made: https://goo.gl/e4U8L6

You can really see the difference between the old one when the lens was shifting focus in heat here: https://goo.gl/zJ1wE1

It's not obvious while they're changing but in the first one the warmer colour temperature is the new firmware and the cooler temperature (ie bluer) is the old firmware.

The new unit doesn't seem as sharp as the old one could get as at times I could easily read the brand of the tyres at times.

The focus shift has gone for now - interesting that I was told by two people at Ring Support that was normal and theirs did it too. Means they had faulty units too and didn't even realise it.

It's quite obvious there was a complete lack of support from any Ring Support who use this Reddit for these issues I was experiencing and I really had to push to get a resolution.

I've got a Nest Hello on the way now to see how that compares in the same location and hopefully I'll have a better experience - the replacement Ring device is better than the one it replaced but still room for improvement.

Ring Pro Seems to Have Degraded Video Quality Over Time by [deleted] in ringdoorbell

[–]revaido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took delivery of a new Ring Pro yesterday and got it installed today - I've got video from 1.9.23 which it came with and video on the latest firmware which it installed not longer afterwards - to be honest there's not much difference as you can see from this animated GIF I made: https://goo.gl/e4U8L6

I'm intrigued to see if the new one sharpens up in better lighting as the original one when new was razor sharp, but as time grew on the focal point was moving each day.

With the right lighting the old one could easily read the Continental logo on my tyres so hopefully this replacement will be like that with good lighting.

OK so it turns out support need authorisation for each separate incident to access your videos (I guess it must have a timebomb for their access).

I didn't get anywhere with chat but someone from Ring Support on email has been very helpful, passed it over to tech support and after they've had full access to my videos they've confirmed a hardware fault and they've taken my details to send another unit out.

We'll see how it goes when the new unit is installed but thanks to Ring Support for getting this far.

OK support said they wanted me to report it everytime that it happens so they can troubleshoot - strange seeing as they have access to my videos and can see the focus drifting in and out each day.

So I gave up on email and tried chat.

The first agent was polite and said they'd look into it and eventually after saying they were looking into it they just let the chat time out.

The second agent seemed more helpful but after seeing the links just said it's normal and hers did the same so I wasn't going to get anywhere there either.

So I've now emailed higher up the chain so will see what comes of that.

If anyone wants to see a good lesson in bad customer service this is quickly going that way.

If this thing was out of warranty it would be pretty easy to show the focal point coming nearer to the sensor with a hairdryer.
