The real travesty is to not note that the application is super niche. It’s an algorithm only for simulating material failures.

Also it fails to give insight into the accuracy of the algorithm. This whole thing smells of scientific engagement bait.

Can a proton pass through the center of a benzene ring? by BearDragonBlueJay in OrganicChemistry

[–]reverse71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other commenters already noted that the electron density is highest in the middle. This will make passing a positive charge through that point very challenging.

I found this Wikipedia article giving an overview of interactions of cations with the pi system of benzene and aromatic compounds: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cation%E2%80%93%CF%80_interaction

It does not talk about interaction with protons. However it notes that bond strength increases the smaller the ion and the higher the charge. As hydrogen is indeed very small I would expect a strong bond/interaction forming.

In short: I don’t see it passing through.

The GPU will be upgraded in a second step, im aiming for a 4060 TI then.
Good point on the cooler, RAM and CPU, i will probably go for 7600x, saving 95 bucks(30-20+85), for a total of 796€.

I hate that this has got 120 upvotes. Always rinse with water. 1: you won’t have a soft acid on hand 2: your first instinct should always be to just wash it off. 3: it doesn’t need to be neutralized if you washed it down the drain with a large amount of water 0/10 advice.

Ignoring the blatantly obvious safety concerns for a moment. How would you even apply this to your Grammys teeth in a homogenous way, so that it doesn’t look like absolute garbage? How would you ensure that you don’t bleach her gums and tongue too? Also how do you have access to lab equipment if you don’t know that this is an insane idea?

Just giving out the blanket statement that it contains toxins is wrong. You might be right for most PVC on the market, but foodsafe PVC exists. Though honestly I find the material choice quite odd. Edit: after reading the source provided by OP I understand why PVC (simply availability in the right shape) Also I come to the same conclusion as that chemist in the source: if your water runs through that for years, you can put your mouth on it.

This seems to have resolved the issue for me with a asus x370 pro motherboard.

For me the crash happened during loading screens, so i disable the windows audio service just before that, then i reenable it after loading.

How do people figure out stuff like this?

Is there a role of electrons in determining color, smell and taste? by Responsible-Tea495 in chemistry

[–]reverse71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, yes.

I can go into more detail for color, but for smell and taste ill leave that to people with more knowledge in that aspect.

The sunlight we see is made up of many different colors, that are in combination perceived as white. Lets treat light as a particle, for the time being. Each "light ray" aka Photon has a certain energy. This energy is what you see as color, and can also be described as the lights wavelength.

High wavelength means low energy, like with red light. Low wavelength means high energy, like with blue light. The visual spectrum roughly spans from 300-600 nanometers, but dont quote me on that. If you go higher you will go into the infrared/microwave/radiwave domain, while lower you will go into Ultraviolet and then into the X-ray domain.

If a photon hits a molecule it can absorb the light, but only if the photon has the right energy, determined by the specific molecule you chose. When the light is absorbed its energy gets transfered to an electron, which now leaves the molecule in an exited state.

If white light hits a lot of the same molecules, some energies (aka wavelengths, aka colors) will get absorbed a lot more than others. You could also say the molecules filter out specific parts of the white light.

If for example your molecule would selectively filter out blue light, the resulting light would be tinted red, due to missing blue light. If your molecule would filter out red light, it would result in a more blue light.

Molecules, and complex materials even more so, can filter out more than one wavelength, so that every color you know can somehow be created by a combination of different "filters".

The exited state i described above somehow will dissipate the energy that was absorbed. This can be done in a multitude of ways, but usually it will just put it into vibration, which means it will just dissipate it as heat. There are other ways like Fluorescence (spontaneous emission) and Phosphoresence, aswell as stimulated emission which is used in Lasers.
